Well, we have the Nadal vs Medvedev final that always seemed inevitable.

I think Medvedev won't be too tired, though, or not as tired as I expected. I thought the match with Tsitsipas would be quite tight, and for most of the match it was... but I also thought it might be quite draining, long games, possibly a 5-setter. As it turned out though, although it was tight, much of the match seemed to be the players holding serve to love... so not as tiring as might have been expected.

I was going to have Nadal as favourite for the final, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe he might still edge it, even though Medvedev didn't have an exhausting semi-final.

I think Medvedev will win this final. In the last meeting when he met Nadal at the US Open final in 2019 he came back from 2 sets down to make it 2-2 then lost the fifth 6-4 which enabled Nadal to win. He faced a hostile crowd that was shouting for him to lose and was applauding Nadal but in the end the crowd were cheering for Medvedev because he was a fighter and did not give up.

In the case of this final, he is a much better player than he was in 2019 and I have no doubt at all Medvedev will beat Nadal.

Medvedev lost his grand slam final in 2019 (US Open) to Nadal in 5 sets. He lost his second grand slam final in 2021 (Australian Open) to Djokovic in straight sets but won his third grand slam in 2021 (US Open) against Djokovic which was in straight sets.

He already stopped Djokovic from winning a 21st grand slam and I am sure he will stop Nadal from winning his 21st grand slam too. If it happens it would mean Federer, Nadal and Djokovic staying equal for now in the number of grand slams they have won (20 each). It was also means Medvedev would have won 2 grand slams for himself and would boos this confidence even though he is right now the number 2 ranked singles player.

I had the opportunity to see live, although in repetition it would not matter, but tennis matches have for my tastes something special to see them live, the Nadal vs Mannarino match, friend the Tie Break of the first set that to locals and strangers or not fans he enjoys it, seriously, it didn't matter who won at that moment... that is he showed that he can still win not conclusively against a rival like Medvedev, but Nadal is strong psychologically, so with what I saw in that Tie-break, that claw, that passion, gives him to win the tournament.

I think this players are not going to be tired, I agree as they have used to this kind of grueling schedule as some of them have back to back games but win. All they have to do is re-hydrate eat sleep a little and they are good to go.

Medvedev is the favorite as far as betting odds goes so I will go with him. Odds though are not that attractive but still maybe it's Medvedev's time to capture the another grand slam now.

For me, Nadal is a big surprise of this tournament.
Of course, we all know how good and quality a tennis player he is, but he was injured for a long time and had a long break when he couldn't play in tournaments.
Personally, I thought he is not completely ready and healthy before the start of this tournament, but Nadal really delighted me with his games until the finals.
The experience is definitely on his side and I am sure he will cope easier with the pressure of playing the GS final than Medvedev.
It will probably be a very uncertain match but I give a little advantage to Nadal.

Women Australian Open Champion 2022

Congratulations to Barty on winning the 2022 Australian Open. Runner-up Danielle Collins put on a much stronger display in the second set but Barty dominated huge parts of the match and ended up winning in straight set: 6-3 7-6

Rafael Nadal is one step away from his record 21st Grand Slam title and him and Daniil Medvedev have met four times, with Nadal winning three but Medvedev winning the last one in 2020 in London.    So Nadal will probably chase that record and with Medvedev having had some serious battles with Nick Kyrgios and Cressy... he might be tired. (Medvedev will still be chasing a victory to get the world's No. 1 ranking from Djokovic)

I will be putting my money on Nadal winning this one... but it is going to be a tough one.

For me, Nadal is a big surprise of this tournament.

And then at the start of the year entering the first slam and then going directly into the finals? that's already a big accomplishment and a good boost for him. But then again, he will be facing Medvedev who is now the second seed and seems to be on his prime, really hard to see what will be the outcome of this match. But experience wise, obviously, Nadal has the edge here.

Nadal has already played a lot of such important matches, has a lot more experience than Medvedev and copes better with the great pressure of this final.
If the match goes to the fifth set then Nadal is the favorite in my opinion.

It was a battle of breaks, when you thought that someone has the momentum, the other one will break back and tie the score again. But eventually Nadal hold his serve in the 5th set and eventually won the match. Congrats to Rafa, again, he is a underdog in this finals, but he proves us wrong again. So now he passed Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic and win his 21st Grand Slam title.

21 Grand Slam titles. Huge! Even if I don't really like Rafael Nadal. It looks like he's the GOAT for now. Let's see if Djokovic can strike back later this year.

Nadal wins his 21st Grand Slam against Medvedev 2-6 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 6-4 7-5

This is his second Australian Open victory, the first coming in 2009. Medvedev was winning 2-0 in sets and should have won the tournament but the key turning point was when he allowed the crowd to unnerve him. The crowd were by majority behind Nadal to the extent they were cheering errors by Medvedev and that in the 3rd set onwards distracted him.

Some of the stunning winners hit by Medvedev were not even fully applauded or appreciated by the biased crowd simply because the majority wanted Nadal to win and that was disappointing for any tennis fan to see.

Medvedev make back-to-back Australian Open finals (2021 and 2022), he also made back-to-back Grand Slam finals (US Open 2021 and Australian Open 2022). He has won his first grand slam (US Open 2021) and at the age of 25 he is definitely going to be around challenging for more for trophies for several years to come.

Congratulations to Nadal, winning 21 grand slams is a great achievement but this was the first time I understood a lot of what Djokovic must have felt all those times the crowd was supporting Nadal or Federer over him when they battled it out.

Now we can see how good Nadal really is. Medvedev was very close. He will definitely win this tournament again in the future. There were opportunities in this tournament, because Djokovic was not allowed to participate. It cannot be ruled out that Djokovic will no longer be allowed to enter Australia for the next 3 years. No one thought that Nadal would win here. Had won the tournament only once before, in 2009.

Nadal vs Medvedev in the finals for this year.

Yes, I've been saying that for a while... but it's quite boring because it's just what you'd expect, no surprises.

Well, we were both right... apart from the no surprises bit, that men's final was crazy! Does it count as a surprise coming back in the way that Rafa did there? For most players, yes, but for Rafa/Djokovic/Federer, actually not really that big a surprise!

Federer is 40 years old
Nadal is 35 years old
Djokovic is 34 years old


Their time is coming to an end. I do not see Nadal winning another grand slam except maybe one final chance at the French Open. I do not see Federer winning another grand slam except maybe one final chance at Wimbledon and of course the US Open or Australian Open. As for Djokovic he will have several opportunities at trying winning all 4 majors but I think at most all 3 of them will end up with 21 grand slams each

Now we can see how good Nadal really is. Medvedev was very close. He will definitely win this tournament again in the future.

What a way to start the year! Super excited for Nadal, he definitely has worked real hard to get this far. He will definitely win it again judging from his age and also if he doesn't relent and relax in his efforts and hardwork. This is a new record, and as a record setter, others in same line like Djokovic and the rest will be looking to break this record as a new challenge. He has to keep working hard till retirement to ensure he stays on top.

I have to first congratulate Nadal got his long-awaited GS to win in Australia. Unfortunately for Medvedev as he already had the trophy in the bag but failed at the last moment. Another story of a big comeback. The audience played a bigger role than Nadal in his winning the trophy I have to say. Medvedev got startled by the audience's response towards him and maybe he got nervous and thus, lost the game .

Before the start of the match the odds for Nadal vs Medvedev is found to be

Nadal: 2.55
Medvedev: 1.54

As match began this even go higher as the first two sets were won by Medvedev. The second set was truly amazing to watch, because both kept playing their best. In most of the finals Nadal used to give such performance. Earlier in a final he played against Roger Federer, where Federer was in the lead and finally Nadal made it his day. He is a real champion.

A big! as we say "EnHoraBuena" Nadal. These three RF_RN_ND are going to continue taking Slam from this new generation that finally with Medvedev in the lead (this can create diatribes) appear as the next generation, this game was ... when a game involving these three greats is trivial , never.

Nadal not only played the final incredible, all AO was at a level that I think surprised, a return in such conditions was not expected.

If you allow me, I will share a summary that shows in a good way, not the points, but the emotions that were experienced.
