there are two types of people who follow him.
the newbies who have been fooled by him and think he is some sort of expert that knows a lot about cryptocurrency market and eventually end up losing a ton of money (like all those in 2017) and go away.
the other scammers who want to spread his nonsense and make profit from his scams (ie. altcoin pumps and ICO scams) by increasing his number of victims.

the reason that came close to why he said that was because of the reason he used it. however, we do not know what caused him to think that way, but I assume that the price for the beginning of this year did not match his estimates. however, the speculation is currently very difficult to achieve.

Funny how he and a few other people(a.k.a. Twitter XRP bots and ETH supremacists) call bitcoin "outdated" and "the hotmail of crypto"(from one of the Tweet's replies), but yet not one other cryptocurrency has come close to what Bitcoin is today and what it has achieved. What's funny is that, for more than a year, I barely made a transaction that was actually slow and expensive; besides those transactions that I purposely increase the fees for the transaction to be confirmed ASAP. The "bitcoin is slow and expensive" argument is purely bullcrap and is mostly argued by people who really obviously don't really even use bitcoin. Basically what they knew about bitcoin was stuck in 2017. Because if they were actually using bitcoin, they would easily know that this isn't really the case today due to the increased(and still increasing) SegWit adoption; and soon, Lightning.

Most of his followers are newbie who just want to hear a piece of quick information about a possible pump and dump coin. It's not doing him any good turning around against Bitcoin, I don't know his reason, this is a surprising move for the old guy a guy can only say that if he losses all his faith to Bitcoin, this is the wrong time to lose faith on Bitcoin, just as halving is fast approaching and Bitcoin price is improving, I wonder what will happen to the guy if Bitcoin continue to climb to $25000 this year.

To be honest, I have started to get bored with the news related to John McAfee, because whatever the actions taken there is no positive
effect for the advancement of the cryptocurrency world. Even though he said bitcoin is shitcoin, it did not make bitcoin a popularity fall
as well. What I'm more worried about is a newbie, because someone like John McAfee is a bad influence for a newbie.Many newbie who
believes his words because he is indeed a legend in the world of antivirus. But in reality there is no connection the world of anti-virus
and crypto world. Hopefully not many newbies will fall victim because of his words.
