I was addicted before but luckily it was not a serious addiction that turns me into a monster, lol... what I mean monster is that I do drugs, don't sleep much, steal money, other illegal things just to finance gambling. The worst thing I did in the past was just to loan money to gamble which I know might not be able to repay it on time since I have my responsibility to my family which that time my salary is not really big.
I must admit that gambling and taking loans for gambling is the worst financial thing one can do. I am glad it didn't affect you that bad but if you visit lending section you will see guys taking 0.01 - 0.02 bitcoins loans to gamble and some of them actually repay while some bite the dust.

Now technically speaking you take loans for suppose 10% for 1 month which is normal in the lending section, you are faced with 10% loss already as you enter the gambling scene and you then have to face the house edge being set. Overall this loan and gamble habit is horrendous and much more devastating than it seems at times.

I am happy that I still gamble now but not like before that I can be out of control anytime, I am more matured now, and thanks to my experience.
As we often say responsibility makes us a better person and I am happy that you got out of it.

I have never been addicted to gambling but I knew people who were in that situation and never really get cured from it,all they do is just pretend to be completely stopped their gambling activities when they are with the people but when they are alone they will do their gambling activity.
@OP, you're asking people who are in the gambling whether they have cured their addiction?

Realistically, if somebody has a gambling addiction and then cured it, do you think they would still be active in the gambling section, where they can be reminded to play every single day?

Obviously not.

Anybody who has an addiction to anything should avoid all further exposure to it, otherwise it will just creep brack in.
Exactly. Cool

I use to gamble a lot before, but now I gamble casually and I would say I was able to take gambling out of my system.

I felt that my day is incomplete without gambling, but now I don't feel the need or urge to gamble. I think the key is your drive to control your self. Any habit that is not healthy, even difficult must be stopped.

It was similar situation in my case too.

I started gambling long time ago, while i was still in high school. Sports betting was just becoming a thing in my country, and since i watched a lot of sports, this was kinda natural step, to "spice things up" and make it more exciting, and maybe even profit from it. I played little, as since i was student, i couldn't afford big bets. But things quickly got out of control when i started working, and betting more and more. I came to the point that i lost equivalent of yearly salary in matter of few weeks, and one day i simply decided that i will quit. And that was it.

Funny thing, few years after that i started working in a casino and i thought that will be an issue for me  and maybe even make me to gamble big again, but luckily everything went ok. I still gamble ( i prefer brick&mortar casinos)  but just casually and for fun, nothing serious.

That's the thing, with a habit like this, it's really hard to see if somebody has actually given up.

Most addictions are quite secretive things. People have developed clever ways to prevent people from finding out that they still gamble.

Some of these people even fool themselves into thinking what they're doing is ok. When obviously from a third-person perspective we know they are damaging themselves and their family.

I read that there are people who are addicted in gambling but they are successfully cured from addiction, I'm interested to know what are the methods they do in order to get cured from such addiction, I use the word cured because gambling is a serious problem, I call it as a disease, so please share you experience so we can also help those who might have been experiencing an addiction right now.
I've been so addicted in offline gambling like poker lucky nine everyday I go to casino to gamble I always lose that time everyday I go because I want to back all my loses. Until I don't know I'm getting so addicted in gambling.
The first thing I do is find busy my self in another doing like working in the house cleaning. Then I go to my room watch YouTube until I got sleep. That is the way I do everyday then I successfully stop gambling.

Overcoming gambling is a big step and I don't think people can get over it so easily, even if they have some willpower left - it takes much more than that. Addiction is a heavy obsession and curing it is hard. This is why it's so important that people first understand the risks they're taking when going down this route.

For me the mot important is to limit yourself in gambling and think of another day.
Thinking of another day is crucial because while we are gambling and trapped in a bad loosing streak, we sometime try so hard that we deposit more and loose everything in desperation. What one needs in such situations is exactly what you said - calm down and assure yourself you will have a better day, just stop for now!

Maybe iirc, before I lose my tempter or control in gambling, I did go all in and I do really regret that time and I call it the worst day of my life but nothing really serious happen after as I always learn from my mistake which I believe everyone should.
I too have been in such times where I would just gamble all my money in one-go to adjust the loss on the given day and some times I admit it worked but most of the times it did not and that feeling is just something else. I mean there is no-feeling I have ever had as bad as loosing the final bet which you hoped will neutralize the losses.

Obviously not

And what's wrong with that?

If someone really got rid of their addiction (whatever that might be), they can be doing what caused that addiction as they like. In fact, doing it without getting addicted again would be the ultimate proof that you were actually able to quit for real. On the other hand, the need in total abstinence basically proves the opposite, that the addiction hasn't been cured and is still sitting there waiting to re-emerge and take over. Besides, sharing knowledge and personal experiences in the gambling section of the forum is not the same as gambling

Anybody who has an addiction to anything should avoid all further exposure to it, otherwise it will just creep brack in

This could be called an engineering approach to a problem. But it doesn't solve the problem itself which is still there

Do you mean gambling addition right?
Actually you can overcome it easily if you have the will and we have to understand that everyone has different will, there are people who are strong enough to get themselves get out on addiction but there are people who are weak that they'll struggle doing it.

Addiction is a heavy obsession and curing it is hard. This is why it's so important that people first understand the risks they're taking when going down this route.
Addiction would not be a serious problem if you already acknowledge you are addicted in the early stage.

I think people aren't usually cured from being a gambler it's just that, they just stop because they know what's best for them. People can still get to play gambling back but the big difference is that they are able to control it now. Unlike before where they always find what their minds tells them. Of course, it's so hard to control first because they are getting used to the feeling where they always have time to bet and enjoy but in the long run it is getting worst until one day they find themselves drowning in debts or bankruptcy.

The game your mind plays doesn't stop so easily if at all. I see no reason for someone who's been cured of gambling addiction to ever go back to gambling. You either stop once and for all or you don't.

Returning to gambling after a cured addiction is exactly like returning to drugs after you've been cured of the addiction. You're only inducing yourself back in the drug game.

It's true that mistakes make the people learn.

If someone didn't learn through debts, bankruptcy, and losses, then the level of addiction of that person is very difficult to cure. I realized that it's not also better to make gambling a good entertainment since it requires a lot of money than the usual entertainment other people do. Anyways, control is always the key to this kind of scenario and should have the practice to maintain and balance the financial stability in life to avoid problems.

Im an addicted gambler before and it took me some time to recover because honestly its hard to stop especially I always think of my losses and want to keep trying to gamble to recover it.

To overcome this addiction my family had to seek for professional help and take me far from the city for months to stop playing. I dont have access to the internet and there's no way to play physical gambling so it help me to forget.

Now I still gamble but with limitation, I know how hard it is to become addicted but you have to help yourself to overcome it.

I think to completely stop the addiction, you need something to replace those. IMO, taking you out of town is not quite effective because you only rested your mind on gambling but the dark web of your mind still wants to gamble. Learning from mistakes or replacing those and making gambling as entertainment will make you completely surpass the addiction caused by gambling. Hoping for you to get fully recovered on addiction, if you still play gambling even though there's a limitation, a time will come that you'll go back on your addiction status.

Yes, it is not so easy because the addicted person in gambling needs other people to help them to cure the addicting. If they can get the right person who can help them to overcome addiction to gambling, they will have a chance to solve the problem, and they can get the right way to be cured. Going to psychiatry will be necessary after they get the right person because they can know what the way they need is and what they need to do to overcome the addicting.

It wasn't that of a disease. Addiction to gambling is normal and happen to many who starts gambling and had fun and satisfied with it. And it is curable with no other "medications for the disease" required. It only matters on how a gambler sets his bets and maintains his gambling routine. Even I myself had been addicted to it yet sometimes continuous realizations to the losses and discomfort on it may help you drive onto not gambling too much.

Most of the times, being proactive is enormously better than being reactive. Meaning better to maintain and get hold of something before everything turned upside down.

No one should afraid of their life style,if they are getting ashamed to show it to public then they even know that they are doing something not acceptable and bad.

There is nothing wrong with showing their gambling habit to public but when they are in stage of can;t afford for it they should control their mind and get into a stage from where they can afford for it.

when we are speaking about addiction even what kind of vices this is it
will be very hard to stop and overcome.
the only thing that matters is our dedication and willingness to quit
and stop from this.
we have seen many people that always say they wanna quit but they dont even spend more effort to make it happen.

Because they simply can't put their plans into action, therefore they need some help from other people for them to finally get out of addiction, the earlier they can seek help the better as serious addiction would lead to serious problem or make you live a miserable life.

Probably thats the truth about Quitting gambling. I have had many friends who were addicted to gambling and never make any attempt to help themselves from the situation, recently, one of them was arrested in 2019 and still in jail for anger of lost of funds to the opponent. If you're addicted, ensure to help yourself first before help can be found, hence, if addicted without getting help to quit gambling addiction it could lead to self damage or destruction. Self help is most important to be free from gambling addiction.
