I understand, Everyone has his or her own opinion on what's good for them,
I've been Using Secure VPN 2019 since last year,
And it worked perfectly well for me,
So I highly recommend it for your Device safety from useless site,
As it protects you from virus as well.

I'd prefer to go with HotSpot Shield by AnchorFree as I've been using it since last 3 years and had no problems in getting latest proxies every single time I switched the VPN on. It has 2 types - Free and Premium where Premium costs you $12 monthly and around $96 yearly.

Go for Tunnelbear. i think it is wonderful but there are restrictions especially for some countries. Another good VPN is turbo. Looks good and quite impressive.  Remember that VPN is not free of charge and you are to pay if you want a premium services.

Is this whole thread just going to turn in to people suggesting VPNs and me showing them how terrible their Privacy Policies are?

HotspotShield is a free browser extension. Therefore it is not a real VPN, and as has been said above, if you are getting something for free, then you are the product. The bottom line is the must be making money somehow, or else they would cease to operate, and they do so by selling your data. Let's take a look at their Privacy Policy:

2. How do we use your information?
...
To market and advertise our services. We may use your information to provide, measure, personalize, and enhance our advertising and marketing based on our legitimate interest in offering you services that may be of interest.
Red flag number 1. Use your data to personalize their advertising? How can something be personalized unless they are tracking what you do and building a profile about you?

3. Who do we share your information with and why?
...
Affiliates and third party service providers. To help us provide some aspects of our services, we work with trusted third parties and partners (including affiliated companies in the Pango group). To protect your data, we enter into appropriate confidentiality and data processing terms with these third parties, review their security practices, and limit information sharing to the scope of what they are helping us with. Examples of activities that third parties help us with include:

    processing customer payments
    providing analytics about our services
    providing sales and customer support
maintaining the infrastructure required to provide our services
delivering our marketing and advertising content
Emphasis mine. Red flag number 2. Third parties who "deliver their marketing and advertising content". They are selling your data to advertisers.

4.3. Third Parties

We may allow our business partners to place certain tracking technologies in our services.
What. The. Hell. Red flags number 3 through 100. Avoid this spyware at all costs.

Did you read the last few posts?
Please read the last 2 pages and then give your opinion-suggestion about what OP should use.
Try to post multiple options for him or her, don't do the same mistake I did unless you are very sure the VPN you suggested is a trusted one.

I'm using CyberGhost.
It offers an excellent VPN product with strong, unique features not found elsewhere, along with a generous number of simultaneous connections.

CyberGhost is one of the worst. Also, I'd be interested if you could tell me a single "unique feature" they provide which isn't found elsewhere, as I am not aware of any.

Let's take a look at their Privacy Policy:
We may disclose your Personal Data to any member of our group of companies (this means our subsidiaries, our ultimate holding company and all its subsidiaries) insofar as reasonably necessary for the purposes set out in this Policy.
"Our ultimate holding company and all its subsidiaries". Uh oh. Who are their ultimate holding company? They are owned by a company called Kape, who were formerly known as CrossRider. This is an advertising company who purposefully infected their own customers with malware and spyware, and hijacked their browsers for tracking and advertising purposes. Even the CEO admits they changed their name to try to hide their history of shady activities. They are the last company in the world I would trust to run a VPN.

Orbot is good, but it isn't a VPN. It routes all your mobile traffic over the Tor network.

Nord are easy to use, big and reliable.   They reduce prices at various times in sales and give a good discount for a long term packages which is fair to take up.

The free ones I can remember using are tunnelbear who do want you to pay but also give a free allowance and Avast vpn I used for like month or two and was no hassle, again they want you to sign up eventually but it was easy to get hold of, engage and then not use later so easy all round.

NordVPN certainly has a lot of positive things going for it. My only real issue with them is that they were hacked back in March 2018, and it took them 18 months to tell their users that their data might have been compromised or their traffic decrypted by a malicious third party. It's difficult to trust a company who don't tell their users when there are security issues.

Tunnelbear's privacy policy isn't terrible, but they do keep some logs including details about your OS, your app version, and how much data you use. They are based in Canada (five eyes country), and are owned and operated by McAfee. Their free plan only allows 500MB a month, and the only way to pay for a plan is via a credit card, which obviously then links your VPN activity to your real name and address, which is far from ideal. Overall, not a great choice.

Avast's privacy policy is awful:

Data collected directly from you or your device relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (“Data Subject”), and may include direct identifiers such as name, address, email address, phone number, and online or indirect identifiers such as login account number, login password, marketing preferences, social media account, payment card number, or IP address;

We may use contractors and service providers to process your Personal Data for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and Products Policy . We contractually require service providers to keep data secure and confidential.

Such service providers may include in particular contact centers, professional consultants (including for defence or exercise of our rights), and marketing/survey/analytics/software suppliers.

Sometimes these service providers, for example, our distributors, resellers, and app store partners, will be independent controllers of your data and their terms and conditions, end user license agreements (“EULA”) and privacy statements will apply to such relationships.

Avast collects your personal data including real name, address, social media accounts, and IP addresses, and shares that data with marketing, surveying, and data analysis companies. Avoid them at all costs.

your current location matters(country) because some VPN restricted services in some countries. especially the African continent. also, why you want to use VPN is another reason. you can use Nordvpn. it is powerful and one of the best vpn around. i personal use Dotvpn because the services are affordable and always available. Also the free services are works well when you are out of subscription but Ads will always be your problem.

Choosing Virtual Private Network (VPN) is just only use to change your Internet Protocol (IP) and your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or server just to open or browse some of the website or platform that is not acceptable on your country, also you can use the Http Injector, OpenVPN (Ovpn) or the SSH Elite if you want to browse some of the VPN but some of this requires some configuration that you will get through the groups related on that VPN most of the time they are giving server in the country of SG, PH, US, KR or CH.

Hey, I am just starting out and would like to use a VPN, but don't know which one... Would you recommend NordVPN? I have done some reading https://www.reddit.com/r/nordvpn/ and looks alright, how is it for bitcoin stuff?

Go CRYPTO. And by that i mean Orchid (OXT) VPN. It's based on ETH blockchain, and it's a fun and interesting project.
However, it's still in it's infancy (they do have a working app, and it works beautifully) amd speed on some nodes can be sluggish.

I have a question, why do you like to use VPN?
If you would like to use your VPN for exchange trading like Binance, Kucoin etc then you are doing wrong. They don't allow to use VPN using their trading platform. You should you real IP to use your trading exchange else you could lose your ID.
If I am wrong about my guessing then you could try Cyberghost.

In case of using VPN i might choose Proton-VPN for free of charge use it's a touch more advantage than other VPNs there's the difficulty of security and safety of one's own information aside from these VPN is widely wont to unblock any website. At an equivalent time if your ISP doesn't allow you to access an internet site you'll easily access it employing a VPN. Again if you would like to use the web with an IP address somewhere aside from the IP address given by your ISP then that's also possible through the utilization of VPN.

Nobody like VPN (slow connection) except for hiding IP or privacy purpose.

He mentioned Reddit, in my country Reddit was banned can't access it without a VPN or if you like gambling but your country had restricted, you should use a VPN, if allowed.

seems Binance allow VPN,
VPNs is a necessity, not optional
