Gate.io and suspicious price difference

Hi,
Recently, along with the rise in price of Bitcoin as well as ETH, most altcoins have risen again. Now I have something for sale from my wallet. And today, I was surprised to check my wallet. I got a few hundred dollars from an altcoin that I used to think was trash. I started to figure out where I could sell them and this is the problem I am wondering.

As you can see in the title, I came across, Gate.io seems like a huge and reputable exchange, though I've never used it before. But I just registered in this platform, with the verification they require, I believe they are very reputable, right? Anyone who has ever used this platform please let me know your ants and experiences there   Thank you!

Now is the problem. The currency I want to sell is STR. As far as I have observed in the past, its official website is no longer active. As a matter of fact, it should have been of no value. But now, its price is over $ 1.7 on Gate.io. Furthermore, in addition to Gate.io, there is another exchange that has the currency listed, and its price is no different than garbage. So what makes this terrible difference? It seems like a good opportunity for me to sell STR and get some money, but is it really safe to use Gate.io and sell this money?

Today's not April Fools, and market prices aren't something to be toyed with, right? Any thoughts or comments of your kind, please let me know. I am doing verification on Gate.io and waiting to make the transaction if it's secure

You might wanna be careful here. It looks like coingecko got their data mixed up. So I decided to check pout coinmarketcap. Apparently, there are 2 tokens with the STR ticker

I think @logfiles explains correctly. You should match the contract address before take any decisions. Make deposits to the wrong address would lead you to lose your funds. However, website down doesn't mean that token has no value, because if that listed on exchange a few people would trade it. Besides that, I hadn't used Gate dot io for trading how they are reputed, so use it at your own risk.

I believe that the information you have provided is accurate and completely relevant. Thank you very much! So, the same things can always happen, it's really dangerous if someone is not careful. The image above was taken by me from Etherscan. I thought that all information on Etherscan must be carefully moderated before posting, but it seems to be a major flaw. Along with the dreadfully high transaction fees, does it seem that ETH and the currencies that operate on ERC20 are getting worse and worse?

However, website down doesn't mean that token has no value, because if that listed on exchange a few people would trade it. Besides that, I hadn't used Gate dot io for trading how they are reputed, so use it at your own risk.

But most of the time, when a project is canceled, the currencies on it no longer work, right? I just finished verifying there, but because the currency I have is not something of value, so I don't need to use it anymore   skip it for now   Anyway, thank you for being here and giving your opinion

The image above was taken by me from Etherscan. I thought that all information on Etherscan must be carefully moderated before posting, but it seems to be a major flaw. Along with the dreadfully high transaction fees, does it seem that ETH and the currencies that operate on ERC20 are getting worse and worse?

If you look at the image carefully, they claim that the Exchange data source is Coingecko. Perhaps coingecko confused the 2 tokens because they use the same Ticker symbol, but I agree, Etherscan sometimes provides inaccurate price information.

It's good that you asked here before sending your tokens to that exchange. You could've lost them all (although worthless).
But the question is why many tokens have the same ticker? Why there isn't a rule to reject deploying token smart contracts that uses a ticker that have been already used?

Many use this flaw to create scam tokens. So better always be vigilant and check the token smart contract's address.

Ya, I did not look carefully at the information there  Actually, they use the same symbol, but the pictorial icon is different. I came across on Gate.io and see, this confusion can cause enormous harm

Yup, but honestly, I don't regret losing that money. But asking the question here, I can mentally prepare myself for the situation, at least, I don't fall short of seeing a large amount of money in my wallet, and then, it's gone
