My take, it's only a matter of time before the Bitcoin bandwagon carries everyone along, including the blind and people with other disabilities.
You know what bitcoin is for everyone. It doesn't matter if you are a kid, an adult, boy or girl, with disability or not as long as you can use technology and you know how to operate a computer, laptop, phone or any other gadgets that you can use when trading here.
I'm not against with it but for kids? and people with disabilities? I think that will take long for them to taste how bitcoin work on our imperfect world. We are not taking them away what's technology that is in front of us, but it is difficult for them to understand what is bitcoin especially for blind people, they cannot work on it alone. As for all the disability, being blind is the most critical one  Sad

The fact they are blind doesn't affect their ability to understand Bitcoin. They are maybe blind but not stupid. They can read and learn about it as well as of any other things. Also, today there are laws and recommendations in many countries for web sites to be adapted for blind and other disabled or people with other difficulties so I don't see obstacles for blind people also to use Bitcoin.

As it's said in the real world, "when there's a will, there's a way". There's nothing stopping developers from creating wallet software for Bitcoin with accessibility features for blind people. It's just that developers are focused on other important things like scaling the Bitcoin blockchain and keeping it secure. Considering that blind people are the minority, changing wallet software for them wouldn't make any difference in mainstream adoption. At least, the idea is there. Making it a reality, is another story.

I've stumbled across a Bitcoin whitepaper translated to "Braille" language for blind people. This is quite an advancement as it introduces such people into the crypto revolution. But it's still not enough. I'm guessing that if developers add accessibility features into Bitcoin wallets, some sort of text-to-speech mechanism will be implemented. Now, the tricky part is speaking out BTC transactions, amounts, and even keypairs through this system. It'll be quite a challenging task, but not impossible. Since Bitcoin wallets are more suitable for the average person, blind people will simply delegate someone to manage their coins for them. It brings the middleman (which crypto was meant to avoid in the first place), but at least it's a workaround. Let's hope blind people are included in the Bitcoin movement, in order to increase mainstream adoption as much as possible. Just my opinion Smiley

Im not really sure if blind person can work with bitcoin,  maybe they understand what bitcoin is but how they can apply it knowing they can't see anything . How would they type in a keyboard?  Unless there is somebody to do this for them. Yes if somebody help them to work with mostly when it comes of selling the token and need to input the wallet address, email, etc. They had to make sure that they typing the right wallet address.

There is no prohibition against blind people owning Bitcoin, but the problem is not easy for blind people to make transactions with Bitcoin.
It is true that now there are tools that support blind people to access the internet, such as braille keyboards, screen magnifiers, text to
speech software, etc. But still errors can occur, especially regarding Bitcoin transactions, if we make a mistake it can result in us losing
the Bitcoin we have. My advice is that blind people should be accompanied by someone to make Bitcoin transactions.

I don't think they can use bitcoin and other cryptocurrency because how they access to there wallet. this is not practicle.
That is why this topic is created at least for sharing of ideas how Blind people can use crypto even if they are with disabilities .

and since we are in Computer age now, there is no impossible to happen and created.

Maybe they can create a finger print or something in similar for the blind to have full access and control of their crypto assets.

Yeah you've raised a good point and we as a community need to look into this issue. Bitcoin isn't meant just for the privileged but for people from all walks of life.
the Good thing is people like normal has a concern about blind and they will benefit from this.

~~
Any thoughts? Huh
Let alone for new innovations like this, facilities and other general services are still not optimal in providing services to people with disabilities. Of course, if there are developers who care about this it will surely give equal opportunities to disabled people to enjoy Crypto world. Although difficult, it does not mean impossible.

I agree with you. Maybe in the future there will be a new innovations here in Crypto currency world that cares about the persons with disabilities. Yes, its not impossible especially that the world now is fully digitalized and there were lots of experts/genius in technology nowadays. And hopefully this blind people will be given a chance too, to work and earn here in crypto industry.

You are right! They do able to hear and it would really be just simple for them to learn via audio and understand on whats bitcoin is all about.
When reading then they can always make use of those traditional tactile writing system if there would be one which wouldnt be hard.
It doesnt really matter if you are visually impared or other disabilities it cant really stop people to learn or do know about bitcoin.

The problem is the difficulty on how they could apply their learning for bitcoin. One idea that I could think is to user their fingerprint as biometrics to create their personal wallet. Their biometrics will enable the system to recognize their private key and public keys. Because for blind people, braile system in bitcoin will make it hard for them to transact. Meaning, the use of voice recognition will be of great help to make transactions in Bitcoin.

Here's an article concerning this discussion.

However, my concern is how blind people are able to get used to Bitcoin? To my knowledge, wallets (either with a GUI or CLI) don't have "text-to-speech" features to make blind people's lives easier.

This is a concern but not an immediate one since the market group in comparison to the main stream is rather small. Some would think from reading this that this is deliberate inequality but as a business one has to focus on its target market.

At the same time, this is a whole which provides an opportunity if one wishes to invest into it. Because of the large financial implications, I fear not many investors are prepared to do that just yet, but as digital currency becomes more common I'm certain some will start thinking about inclusion properly.

There are certainly ways to do it like the 'text-to-speech' recognition feature alas something more flexible would be required and only with the right market research one can start predicting and testing. The other thing to consider is that perhaps this target audience isn't so interested due to luck of knowledge so perhaps for now the better option is to produce more audible content where they can learn more about BTC and blockchain.

Maybe blind people will be having hard time while setting up their wallet and it is nearly impossible for now but in terms of spending we can still make it possible with QR code scanners or crypto debit cards but until now not much place to spend our cryptos so I believe there will be some technology to assists the blind people to live normal life as everyone.

In the nearest future developers should be able to transform the braile machine used by the blind for tracing and reading of documents into an app which might possibly enable them to set-up a wallet, and do other crypto related stuffs without any hindrance, its very possible with high tech and artificial Intelligence all these put together can be channeled into an idea of creating the machines for visually impaired although the technology will be highly sophisticated and very expensive.

Bitcoin is achievement

I've been into Bitcoin for quite a few years, and I'm impressed to see how far it has reached in the mainstream world. It's the most widely-adopted cryptocurrency for decentralized payments worldwide without the need for a middleman. In its current state, Bitcoin works wonders for ordinary people like you and me. It's only a matter of putting the right BTC address and the number of coins to send to get started using the Bitcoin blockchain.

However, my concern is how blind people are able to get used to Bitcoin? To my knowledge, wallets (either with a GUI or CLI) don't have "text-to-speech" features to make blind people's lives easier. It'd be great if developers keep blind people in mind to help increase the adoption of the pioneer cryptocurrency in the mainstream world. The only thing I've found is an audiobook of the Bitcoin whitepaper which is a great solution to introduce blind people into the "mechanics" of Bitcoin.

At all which of the blind are we emphasizing on,is to be myopic in terms of bitcoin or cryptoccurrency or typically blind. Because its obvious that a blind human can't partake in bitcoin transaction except it has money and people is managing its wealths into bitcoin, creating a special pioneers that will enable blind to understand the concept of bitcoint is very difficult.

I think this idea is very good for blind people to know the development of cryptocurrency in the future and introduce it, but I'm not sure all blind people will understand how to use cryptocurrency by explaining it, because it is very difficult for blind people to understand how cryptocurrency works for them and I'm afraid they don't be able to properly store their security keys in the future.

Those who are disabled or blind have their own way of learning things. We cannot understand or imagine how they will understand bitcoin and other new technology but they will still be able to not only learn about bitcoins but also use it in their daily life.

This is a good idea if developers will make a way for blind people to at least use bitcoin. But we all know that this seems impossible because we are using a device where our eyes are really one of the primary needs to see and understand this technology. It is not something that is written on a piece of paper and transform it to tactile writing for them to be able to read or know what was written.

As far as I know, adapting current wallet software for blind people will be quite a challenging task. Since people with such a disability are the minority, developers don't care more or less in adding accessibility features to Bitcoin. It's a shame since it reduces Bitcoin's level of adoption in the mainstream world. Only people that are able to see can use Bitcoin for day-to-day transactions. If someone blind is still interested in Bitcoin, he/she would need to put someone in-charge of his/her funds. This brings back the middleman (trust), but it's the only way blind people will be able to access Bitcoin.

At least, there's a version of the Bitcoin whitepaper written in Braille. Blind people can know what Bitcoin is all about, but they cannot use it directly for their own benefit. If Bitcoin's popularity continues to increase, it's hoped that developers take into consideration people with disabilities in order to make the pioneer cryptocurrency more decentralized than ever. Everything will depend on people themselves. If people don't pressure developers to build a tool that would facilitate Bitcoin transactions among blind people, everything will remain the same. The community's voice needs to be heard in order to make Bitcoin the best cryptocurrency in the world. Just my thoughts Grin

This is very difficult to discuss because people with low vision must wear glasses especially those who cannot see, of course there is no need to talk about it anymore, blind people are very difficult and in my opinion there is no more discussion to discuss, blind people must have other people as helpers explaining the meaning of bitcoin is not easy. Even normal people with good eyesight find it difficult to understand Bitcoin. That's not condescending, not my point, but the truth is it's very difficult to understand bitcoin.

There is an app where you ask strangers for help and they guide you on what to do, I forgot the name of the app and it is pretty helpful for the blind community. The app utilizes the camera feature of the phone to help, one example is a blind person checking whether the milk is expired, they can use the voice command for the app and strangers will accept the tasks and become their eyes for awhile.

The current dilemma on how to make bitcoin accessible to blind people does not have a simple solution, blind people utilize their other senses like feel or touch while bitcoin is electronic which means there will be limitations like TTS which can sometimes be faulty. Braille system is the best solution that is not fully utilized when it comes to bitcoin project development.

Any thoughts? Huh
You've raised a good concern there, op. It would be pretty challenging for the developers though. But we're now in the modern era so there will surely be someone who can think of a solution to that concern. Braille system can be used for them. I've read an article[1] that btc's white paper is written in Braille for blind people. The same article includes an interview of a blind bitcoin user who said that he doesn't believe that "developers think about disabled bitcoin users." Maybe it's time for that to change and consider our visually impaired fellas in the development of bitcoin."

It will be harder but it can,i believe that experts are going into this now though they cannot focus because the demand of crypto for Disable is not that [popular now.
In future when there are many of blinds and other disable person demand for this then why not?
for now let us just use this thread as sharing of ideas and opinion about How.why, what and when Blind has to be in crypto also.

Braille will work best in helping blind people get access to Bitcoin. Right now, we have all of the required tools to make Bitcoin accessible to everyone worldwide. The problem lies on developers themselves, as they haven't put people with disabilities in mind. Without a proper system for blind people to get access to Bitcoin, they'll be left out of the game. No one seems to care since blind people are the minority. They might as well delegate someone to manage their Bitcoin balances than doing so themselves. It's a workaround, but not a remedy to the current situation.

Time will tell us what lies ahead of Bitcoin's adoption in the mainstream world. I'm hoping that everyone's voice gets heard, making Bitcoin a better cryptocurrency for all. If it becomes extremely popular, developers will most likely include blind people into the ecosystem. Just my opinion Smiley
