Crypto investment firm Grayscale Investments invested $503 million in the first quarter of the year, which is 40 percent above the previous record.

No global central bank Is working on retail digital currency use

A recent report by R3 claims that no central bank is currently pursuing the development of a retail CBDC. As the authors of the document explain, CBDC’s are divided into wholesale and retail: the first is limited to commercial banks while the latter can involve corporations, small businesses, and even individuals.

The report explains that a wholesale CBDC is just a new modernization step for central banks, while a retail CBDC “is an opportunity to extend access to digital central bank money.” Interestingly, the report clearly states that all the CBDC projects currently pursued by central banks worldwide aim to create wholesale CBDC systems.

While such systems may differ significantly from the “digital cash” that many expected them to be, CBDCs are being widely researched and developed around the world. Blockchain co-Inventor offers his view into Satoshi Nakamoto’s background

🔸 In a recent Cointelegraph interview, Stornetta shared some possible insights into Nakamoto's background.

🔸 Stornetta tends to believe that Satoshi was rather an individual than a team. He discounts the argument that in order to create Bitcoin, one would have needed to be knowledgeable in too many disciplines — being a cypherpunk would have been enough. The genius of Satoshi does not lie in any particular discipline, but is rather of the eclectic nature — the ability to arrange disparate pieces into a beautiful mosaic.

🔸 He is also of the opinion that despite the founder’s Japanese name, Satoshi, likely was a Westerner residing in the eastern United States. He is basing the latter assumption on the timestamps of Satoshi’s emails.

Ethereum 2.0 emission will not exceed 2 million ETH per year

Vitalik Buterin announced the expected reduction in the annual Ethereum issue from the current 4.7 million coins to 100 thousand - 2 million after switching to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm.

Buterin explained that the rejection of Proof-of-Work in favor of Proof-of-Stake was due to the desire to reduce inflation in the blockchain and reported on the possibility of situations where, during a period of a large number of transactions due to the burning of part of each commission, the total supply of ethers may even decrease.

Another feature during the transition to stage 2.0, according to him, will be a change in the size of blocks in response to fluctuations in network activity, whereas now it is regulated by adjusting the cost of gas.

Microsoft wants to "read people's brain waves" to mine cryptocurrency

Microsoft has proposed a method to generate cryptocurrency by monitoring people's brain activity. A new patent titled "Cryptocurrency System Using Body Activity Data" describes how a person could attach various sensors to their body to earn cryptocurrency through a mining.

Mining cryptocurrencies like bitcoin typically involves devoting vast amounts of computer processing power to solve complex mathematical problems.

Microsoft's patent sets out an alternative option for mining cryptocurrency by instead doing it through a "human body activity associated with a task" and monitoring the outcome with biometric sensors.

"For example, a brain wave or body heat emitted from the user when the user performs the task provided by an information service provider, such as viewing an advertisement or using certain internet services, can be used in the mining process," the patent explains.

Bitcoin Might Crash Due To Miner Capitulation

The Blockchain Opportunity fund manager and CEO of Blockware Solutions Matt D’Souza has expressed his opinion of the coming Bitcoin price crash should the next rally fail to gain traction. The reason – massive cryptocurrency sell off by miners who constitute 30% of the network hashrate. By his calculations, with the price being at $8500 after the third halving, some 30% of the current hashrate is being supplied by ASIC miners operating at a loss. With Bitcoin mining profitability dropping, miners may have to start selling their BTC reserves to “stay afloat”. From D’Souza’s observations, lots of miners are already going offline.

It’s worth noting that the halving event has led to Bitcoin miners getting 44% less rewards for each block and the total network hashrate drop by 16%.

Visa Files Patent Application to Create Digital Currency on Centralized Blockchain Network

Visa has filed a patent application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to create digital currency. According to a post on Forbes, Visa will create the digital currency on a centralized computer using blockchain technology.

As a result, its shares continued scaling higher after closing yesterday trading at $180.90, approximately 2.15%. The company has experienced an increase in daily users, due to the coronavirus pandemic, which is pushing people to adopt plastic money.

The filed patent applies to digital dollars as well as other central bank digital currencies such as the pound, euros. It was initially filed back on November 8, 2019, by visa, however, the process took time to move into the next step.

💬 Company said: “Each year we seek patents for hundreds of new ideas. While not all patents will result in new products or features, Visa respects intellectual property and we are actively working to protect our ecosystem, our innovations and the Visa brand,” said Visa’s spokesperson".

German Bank Partners With Singapore Fintech Consortium on Blockchain

Ten31, the FinTech arm of Germany’s WEG Bank, has partnered with Singaporean technology incubator, Anquan Capital. Partnership will involve exploring blockchain applications within the context of banking and financial services.

Anquan Capital already has launched a number of distributed ledger technology, or DLT, firms, including Zilliqa and Anqlave.

Ten31 chief executive, Matthias von Hauff, stated:
“With Anquan as a shareholder, we have added yet another ideal partner to our network. Not only do we benefit from their excellent technologies, but we also secure a spearhead in the Asian region in the long term.”

The collaboration appears poised to see WEG’s Ten31 provide digital asset custody services for Anquan affiliates — with Anqlave offering custody solutions to enterprise clients.

Crypto Traders Are Longing ETH

The number of Ethereum (ETH) longs has continued to surge after breaking into all-time highs at the end of March.

Despite the broader crypto markets posting price gains alongside BTC in recent weeks, the number of open longs remains low for most crypto assets after plummeting during the mid-March crypto market crash.

Since breaking into record highs on Feb. 26, ETH/USD longs on major crypto exchange have increased by 170%. After increasing roughly 50% from March 2019 until the start of 2020, ETH/BTC longs shot up by a further 83%.

The trading activity surrounding other top crypto assets, including several altcoins, has dried up significantly as speculators bet on the Bitcoin halving and Ethereum’s forthcoming ETH 2.0 overhaul.

🔸 The trade war between the United States and China began in January 2018. When tariffs were imposed on Chinese goods in July of the same year, the price of Bitcoin (BTC) plunged 31% from $8,487 to $6,000.

🔸 Now the U.S. and China are on the verge of reigniting a new trade war as the two nations battle over the origin of the coronavirus. U.S. President Donald Trump recently warned that the signed phase one trade deal “doesn’t feel the same to me,” expressing his intent to walk away from it.

🔸 The price of the top-ranked digital asset on CoinMarketCap faces the risk of a major pullback if a full-scale trade war between the two superpowers. Despite a strict prohibition of cryptocurrency trading, Chinese investors make up for a fairly large share of the global Bitcoin market. If the inflow of capital into China slows down as a result of intensifying pressure from the U.S., it is likely to cause a decline in appetite for high-risk assets including single stocks and Bitcoin.

Libra Association Appoints Former FinCEN Head as General Counsel

The Libra Association, the organization behind Facebook’s Libra stablecoin project, announced the appointment of Robert Werner as its general counsel, in what seems to be a continuing strategy to reconcile with regulators.

Werner brings vast experience from both the public and private sectors, including serving as the director for the Finance Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and overseeing both HSBC and Goldman Sachs’ enterprise executive for policy and regulations.

“I have dedicated my career to combating financial crime and helping complex organizations achieve regulatory compliance, both in government and in the private sector,” said Werner.

Twitter Bitcoin Mentions Now Exactly Mimic Market Cap

🔸 Tweets including Bitcoin are far ahead of altcoins, but there are major similarities between Twitter and market cap rankings.

🔸 According to the latest data, Bitcoin’s popularity on Twitter by the number of tweets is not only the highest of all the cryptocurrencies — it is proportional to market cap. For May 26, Bitcoin tweets numbered 26,778. Tweets including six others — Ether, XRP, Litecoin, Tezos, EOS and Chainlink — came to roughly another 13,000.

🔸 Out of a total of around 39,000 tweets, Bitcoin’s share is therefore around 68%. Meanwhile, data from CoinMarketCap shows that at press time, Bitcoin’s market cap dominance is 65.7%. 

🔸 Market cap refers to the implied value of all the units of a cryptocurrency that have been created. Bitcoin has not always held the lion’s share — in January 2018, for example, its “dominance” was something of a misnomer at just 32%.

Lithuania’s Central Bank Completes Blockchain Regulatory Research

The Bank of Lithuania (BoL) has finished the research phase of its blockchain-related project LBChain. In the next phase, the institution will create a sandbox that mixes technological and regulatory infrastructure for the technology.

LBChain allowed market participants to test their business solutions in a controlled environment by assessing the critical needs of fintech and startups. They then provided them with the ability to carry out blockchain-oriented research and adapt blockchain-based services into their businesses.

US Regulators Have Double Standards When It Comes to Bitcoin

🔸 Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds, or ETFs, have faced unfair pushback from U.S. regulators, according to VanEck director and digital asset specialist Gabor Gurbacs.

💬 "There's a persistent double standard against Bitcoin and digital assets, which I think is wrong," Gurbacs told.

🔸 Over the past two to three years, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, has denied a massive number of Bitcoin ETFs. VanEck, in collaboration with SolidX, submitted one of the most notable Bitcoin ETFs, facing a plethora of delays and difficulties before dropping its proposition.

🔸 For Bitcoin ETF approval, regulators say they need proof that Bitcoin exhibits true price action, or "real price discovery," versus market manipulation. Comparing the situation to other available traditional market ETFs, experts said the "argument about price discovery doesn't hold water."

$1.3 Billion Transaction Completed On Bitcoin Network

💸 During the night on Thursday, 11 June, an unknown user moved 132 255 BTC in just 2 minutes. This is equivalent to US $1.3 billion.

🔸 According to Blockchain.com, the transaction was split into three batches of 44 085, 44 235 and 43 935 BTC. Transaction fee was just $1.9 total.

✔️ The largest Bitcoin transaction in history was made on 16 November 2011. On that day 500 000 BTC was moved, equivalent to US $1.32 million at the time, now worth $4.9 billion.

🔸 In October 2019 the Bitcoin network saw 112 027 BTC moved in one transaction (over $930 million worth at the time). The commission fee for the operation was $3.89.

Chinese Tech Group Behind TikTok Looks to Enter Finance

👍 ByteDance, the Beijing-based multinational tech group behind Tiktok, is looking into adding banking to its line of products and services. It is currently bidding for a digital bank licence in Singapore.

💡 ByteDance is likely to compete with a few other Asian tech giants including Alibaba’s Ant Financial and electronic leader Xiaomi to obtain one of the five virtual banking licences that the Monetary Authority of Singapore is about to issue this year.

✔️ The company has applied for one of the three wholesale bank licences. It could indicate that the licence can be limited to serving corporate clients and small and medium enterprises.

👑 ByteDance does not offer a digital bank in mainland China. Most virtual financial services are dominated by Tencent’s Wechat and Alibaba’s Alipay. ByteDance considered applying for a digital bank license in Hong Kong previously. It has also indicated in the past that it might be tapping into e-commerce services.

Millennials Trust Bitcoin Over Banks

China Gets Its First Blockchain-Based Public Resource Bidding Platform

China’s Yun­nan province city of Kun­ming has completed the development and internal testing of the country’s first completely blockchain-based public resource bidding platform.

Dubbed “Kun­y­il­ian,” the bidding plat­form utilizes Tencent’s blockchain-as-a-service system and intends to solve the challenges faced by the current public resource bidding process. It is expected to help authenticate the credibility of central entities involved in the bidding process and expedite data sharing and security.

The development of the platform is part of China’s initiative to further its technological innovation through investments into new and emerging technologies. New Bitcoin Price Model Suggests ‘Exponential’ Bull Run in One Month

On-chain analyst Willy Woo published a new Bitcoin price model showing a new BTC bull run could begin in 30 days.

Woo said: “This is a new model I'm working on, it picks the start of exponential bull runs. Bitcoin was setting up for a bullish run until the COVID white swan killed the party. This model suggests we are close to another bullish run. Maybe another month to go.”

DeFi Offers Potential Investment Opportunities

Indian Farmers Will Use Blockchain for Supply Chains

One of India’s largest farm producer organizations (FPO), Sahyadri Farmers Producer Co, is integrating blockchain into its business process for its supply chains to increase efficiency and transparency in the traceability of food products.

The founder of Sahyadri, Vivek Shinde, said that in the present scenario, farmers get only 25% of the final price of sold goods.

However, with increased efficiency through blockchain implementation, they can share as much as 50% of their revenue with farmers.

The organization expects to use blockchain-based data sharing to improve trust in its pricing and sales information that it shares with farmers and buyers.

Blockchain integration will further allow customers to trace products back to the individual farmer who produced it. Customers will be able to do so using QR codes or digital maps attached to the products.

It is a worldwide tendence - an increasing number of blockchain companies are now working in the agriculture industry to increase efficiency and help farmers earn better revenue.

Is it possible to hack Bitcoin?

🔸 Cryptocurrency critic Peter Schiff wonders whether the recent hack of verified profiles on Twitter is “a harbinger of Bitcoin itself being hacked.”

🔸 In a July 16 tweet, Schiff mentioned yesterday’s mass hack of verified Twitter profiles which were used to promote a Bitcoin scam, further suggesting that it could be a prelude to a hack of the cryptocurrency itself.

🔸 Analysts and crypto experts did not agree with Peter Schiff's suggestion, noting that the scammer’s decision to use Bitcoin was probably motivated by authorities inability to censor and reverse Bitcoin transactions. Also, many experts recalled that it is almost impossible to crack Bitcoin - this cryptocurrency has a decentralized protocol, thousands of nodes, everything is transparent and auditable. All of those features make the network much harder to hack than Twitter.

Authorities Can’t Shut Down Bitcoin

Barry Silbert, head of Grayscale Investments believes that US authorities can’t ban Bitcoin.

Silbert claims the government simply doesn’t have the power to do so!

💬 "There's enough support in DC from policy makers and regulators that Bitcoin has a right to exist and ultimately you can't shut it down", said Silbert.

He made the statements during a Grayscale investor call. The investment firm CEO also said he was “cautiously optimistic” about the future legal status of Bitcoin.

However, only time will tell how accurate is Silbert’s forecast on the matter.

Bitcoin Hits $11.6K for First Time in a Year

👏🏻 The price of Bitcoin has surpassed $11,600 for the first time in 12 months as traders say that there is a lot of open range between $11,600 and $15,000.

The last time BTC surpassed $11,600 was in mid-2019 when it surged to a multi-year high of $14,000 before rejecting.

According to Michael van de Poppe, the market structure of Bitcoin would remain compelling if it holds $11,400. Stability above the $11,400 level would show that it has turned into a support level.

More Institutional Investors Turn To Bitcoin

🔸 As part of a new research by an analyst company Chainalysis, experts have made a few interesting finds. It turns out that from late 2019 to May 2020, the share of professional investors in cryptocurrency in the US increased from 87% to 92%.

🔸 By the way, the US comes second in terms of cryptocurrency transaction volume, the first being East Asia.

🔸 North American addresses saw 14.8% of all institutional investor activity over the past year. The study notes that American investors move far greater amounts of cryptocurrency compared to investors from Europe and Asia – starting from $1 million and up. The number of such transactions has also risen over the year from 46% to 57%.

🔸 Chainalysis experts believe this data indicates that cryptocurrencies are becoming a fully-fledged asset class in their own right.

🔸 Analysts also believe that as more regulators and financial institutions gain a better understanding of the transparency advantages that cryptocurrencies offer, they will grant this part of the financial market more and more of their trust.

💬 During today’s online meeting, Anshel Gear, BUYTEX CMO, answered a number of relevant questions of the community as well as covered some news:

1️⃣  What happened to the price of BUX?
Because a large volume of tokens were sold on the exchange, BUX price dropped sharply. Immediately after, a huge number of tokens were bought through the BUYTEX NETWORK dashboards at a low price, many times more than what was sold for cheap on the exchange. This is why almost all of the tokens that were planned to be sold in a gradual manner over at least one and a half years were bought out. Such is the market, and things like this happen, we can’t prohibit anyone from buying or selling tokens. This event is neither bad nor good, this is just the way things are.

2️⃣ You can all see in your dashboards that the amount of tokens available for sale has almost run out. Once they are sold out, further purchases of BUX through the BUYTEX NETWORK dashboard will become unavailable. Purchasing plans will also become unavailable. The only place to buy BUX tokens will be on the BUYTEX exchange and other exchanges.

3️⃣ Partners with active plans will continue receiving token bonuses as per the established marketing. Binary, matching and leadership bonuses have not and will not stop for as long as there are tokens available for purchase. As soon as tokens run out, all bonuses will be paid out and no more plans or tokens will be available for purchase in BUYTEX NETWORK.

4️⃣ BUYTEX Exchange will continue to develop further and strengthen the BUX tokenomics. All the plans we have announced earlier are still intact. The main avenue of development will be the exchange itself: attracting traders, improving infrastructure, implementing previously announce and new instruments. Everything is going according to plan, and the team will continue putting a lot of hard work into strengthening all of our processes.

5️⃣ The BUYTEX NETWORK project will continue its operation, but in a different manner. The project will continue promoting BUYTEX products: proprietary training at BUYTEX Academy, trading bots and exclusive instruments for trading. The entire economy will be built on the BUX token. In other words, products will only be available for sale with BUX tokens, and marketing rewards will also be paid out in BUX.

6️⃣ Now, to the alleged account bans. For security reasons we have temporarily blocked some 1% of all accounts in the project, and the process of unblocking them has already begun. This will take some time due to a large number of requests sent to our support team. Our tech support will contact the project’s leaders to speed up this process.
