My curiosity has increased when I have seen another question today. Today I have read this thread where OP asking about a site is it scam or not. Few days back I had read another thread almost same and question is same as well. I am creating this thread because I found some interesting match with both of this users.

1. Both of this users just create a new account to ask this question on the forum. They never use this forum previously with that account. Same day they made post when they joined.
2. Both of user have chosen most visible board Bitcoin discussion board, if they are new how they know where their thread will be more visible on that board?

Previous thread's OP become inactive after made thread I believe this current thread's OP would disappear as well. This isn't any accusation, but I am curious to know your opinion, really they want to know or trying to promote scam here?

Possibly another subtle way of promoting something in a forum and let it be talked about. It's the same as well for blogs or articles that have been created in relation to subjects and topics here in the forum. Maybe to provide real traffic and in some ways, for those scam websites, just hoping that someone would be stupid enough to get scammed or something.

We never know, but I have strong doubt that it will be.

  • Trying to have traffic here by mentioning the site.
  • Using alt account and answer by another account. (a merit seeker)
  • I suspected also probably slander, make a false statement.
  • Or a curious one, reaching out this forum but didn't get back once they scope the right answer.

The possibility are very high, people create thread on certain topic presenting it as an attack on the project been discussed but its simple an indirect marketing strategy where you bring the customer to you instead of chasing after the customers. A popular example was the numerous yobit related thread that were been created during its spamming signature campaign duration, this created even more awareness and probably generate traffic to the site been discussed out of curiosity of some individuals wanting to try the sites been discussed to take advantage of it e.g like the pump and dump scheme yobit offered.

It's just like when there's a report of some flaws in a gambling platform that can be taking advantage off to earn some bitcoin meanwhile such platform is just a scam waiting to scam you of your deposited bitcoins. It's always about the publicity and nothing else, like they say, 'There's no such thing as bad publicity

Anything can happen, it is impossible to exclude the possibility that they use this method to promote their platform, by answering questions or questions around that platform, if there are many people read it, it will be a good way to promote their platform to community. But to be honest, this is just speculation, what would we do if it were true? There are really no rules against it. But if it is true, I do not appreciate this way of promoting, their reputation is bad from the start, not really feasible.

That's the real concern, there is no rules for such as case. On the other hand we are unable to tag them based on suspicion since they are asking just a question. But it would be nice if they make question on appropriate section. Anyone have right to ask any questions here, but regarding such as case I believe account created by website owners/team. For the mean time we will have to use report button, so moderators would move thread on appropriate section. If there is more such as case then it would be matter to discuss on meta.

Yes, I also think this topic is a case that should be discussed in Meta. Recently, the status of new accounts which being created and used as a puppet to engage in topics is increasing. The common problem is the use of different puppet accounts to participate in topics, their common purpose is to create credibility for the project. Whether questioning a phishing site or participating in ANN, they all have the same purpose, and they are abusive. I support if you want to ask questions in the Meta section  Wink

It depends. Are you sucking the right dicks and washing the right balls? If so, no it is not a scam. If not, it totally is. Any debate, discussion, or questions presented to the elite by the untouchable class is a scam. I hope that answers your question.

It's quite old and popular scheme to promote scammy websites. Newbie accounts ask such questions about obvious scams - cloud mining, ponzi schemes, fake stores and etc. Usually they post in popular boards like Bitcoin Discussion, Beginners & help, marketplace to get more visibility. If they would post in appropriate board - investor based games, then nobody will not see their website and it will be more difficult to attract victims.
But there is no way to prove that author of topic related with that website. It still can be legitimate newbie asking questions. Any way, I'm not sure what can be done in such cases. These accounts is throwaway and no longer used after that post. Tagging them probably wouldn't help much.

Reporting the thread to the moderator is the best option imo, such posts has to be made in the wrong section to attract more visibility, so it can be thrashed or moved to the scam accusation board at the very least, such action would protect the vulnerable newbies who can fall for such scam attempts.
If it happened that it's an innocent question, the OP can have no complaints about it being moved to a more appropriate section where they're going to get better answers.

  • Using alt account and answer by another account. (a merit seeker)

My bet is on this one in one of the topics, we have seen this before with the-devil
If they really wanted to promote it they would start with a different title, a bit more innocent:
- help me get my funds from x?
- I got x amount in y, is it legit?

Adding "scam" in the title from the start would make almost everyone suspicious, really not worth the effort

Also, we can't exclude the possibility of him actually being a newbie getting bombarded with scams over telegram and he has turned to bitcointalk for info and opened a topic here. As for the board chosen, common, all the newbie's open topics on wrong boards, even when they are claiming they have been scammed they open it there or in Beginners & Help.  There are hundreds of those scams and thousand targeted each day...it's still a possibility.

Also depending on the case, you're right if it starts with the word "scam". Many people will not care too much about such articles, meaning they will only read the title and not what follows. If promoted in this way, the negative impact will reach more people. The sad thing is that many people come here only after they've been cheated, they come here just to ask or accuse. They had suffered the previous effect. How good it is if new people often come here and ask before investing in anything  Cheesy

1. Both of this users just create a new account to ask this question on the forum. They never use this forum previously with that account. Same day they made post when they joined.
2. Both of user have chosen most visible board Bitcoin discussion board, if they are new how they know where their thread will be more visible on that board?
Its quite simple that both of their intention is pretty much same and most probably both account is controlling by same person.

Previous thread's OP become inactive after made thread I believe this current thread's OP would disappear as well. This isn't any accusation, but I am curious to know your opinion, really they want to know or trying to promote scam here?
In both cases all they want is just some easy visitors without any promotional cost. For them its the easiest way to reach crypto oriented user easily. Maybe this type of spell gonna work for some guys who are very new to this crypto world and have less knowledge about crypto related scam trap.

Also, we can't exclude the possibility of him actually being a newbie getting bombarded with scams over telegram and he has turned to bitcointalk for info and opened a topic here.
Yeap,,,definitely another possibility. For newbies its common that they make mistakes to pick proper board for creating posts.

definitely same person and wanted to promote it. he isn't that effective but it gets notice because everyone here are always on the look out for scam. and a word "scam" on the title of the thread gets views.

when creating an account he has to pay certain btc before the new account can post. its a costly spam. he has an option, he can keep paying for new account to market/spam or he'd better just rank up, build a reputation by creating an ANN thread.
