Is that a big deal? I think that hotel booking is still the same, no matter the mode of payment, this is just a business strategy to garner a larger demographic of people and this helps in their business model by adding a variety of payments, the only problem with that I guess is the bureaucracy that depends where that business operates in, because government would surely want their share of taxes to the businesses, it is a quaint problem for businesses though because it poses more problem for the businessman when they fail to comply.

I guess some treat it as a big deal because they could finally spend their Bitcoins on a local business, rather than just for speculation/ gambling.

I see no reason to pay more for the honour of paying with BTC.
The simple reason they charge people who pay with bitcoin more will be because of the volatility and unprecedented fluctuations in bitcoin price. You can not predict what happens next even while payment is ongoing, the price can either drop or rise. Nothing is guaranteed. Back to the OP,  if we believe bitcoin is digital cash then it should not be a surprise if people pay for goods and services using it. Should it?

Very great news mate, bitcoin has been going more popular all over the world so they tend to make an application which can use bitcoin as payment on some transactions, which is really good because it makes the transaction secured and fast compared to the manual thing which you should do all thing physically.

It seems like bitcoin will be more prominent because of the emerging technology as time goes by technology evolves and bitcoin becomes more popular, I think in the near future there would be more software or application uses by some transaction with the use of bitcoin.
This is good about bitcoin but it is not new again, there are some countries in Europe that use bitcoin like money, beside using it to book for hotel they also use it for many daily transactions like using it to make order in bar, this is common in Ljubljana and Prague.
I can use it to book for a hotel if the service is available in the hotel I logged, it is a great idea, I can easily use my wallet to even pay as easy than using fiats.
But it is really great for those people who don't know about these things like me because we can use it for next time if we are going to reserve a book in the hotel.

That's what happen if, we, bitcoin supporters are really doing something for the promotion of bitcoin into our surroundings. Sometimes all we need to do is cooperation for the future of bitcoin so that people will notice and know its uses in many transactions. I think that using bitcoin in booking a hotel is a good idea because one of the reason why bitcoin exists is for a digital transaction purposes. Most especially if you're travelling around the world and you need to book a hotel, bitcoin is the best choice if you have no any choice or fiat in your wallet. Bitcoin is really flexible when it comes to digital payment, it can use in any transactions like paying bills, foods, and etc., you just need to confirm if bitcoin is accepted in a country that you're in.

Would you book a hotel using bitcoins?

No problem with me. But if using Bitcoin means paying a much higher price simply because of that option, I would rather use fiat. After all, generally, I am actually trying to accumulate more and more Bitcoin rather than spend them.

No disrespect to your decision but you do understand that, If we don't spend it, it can't serve the purpose it was created for. Bitcoin was created to serve as a currency so the sooner we understand that and start utilizing it in that manner then achieving the global currency statue will still be a dream that can't be achievable. For those wanting to use bitcoin as a store of value (asset), which is highly recommended. My above statement shouldn't be considered as discouraging instead you can set aside few satoshi to be utilized when the opportunity presents itself.

I personally tried to use bitcoin when I see an opportunity to do so. Here in Africa it isn't that common to find any opportunity to spend bitcoin that's why we're mostly participating in the industry by trading/investing.

I completely understand that. I am both a HODLer and a Bitcoin spender at the same time, and I have separate wallets especially for them. My household's utility expenses are paid in Bitcoin. I have to admit that I am limiting my Bitcoin spending to smaller expenses such as these, though. I guess you and I know that Bitcoin is still going to soar in the months and years to come. I am kind of stocking up for that moment.

However, as I've pointed out, if paying in Bitcoin means paying something with a much higher price, I wouldn't think twice of spending fiat instead. That must be a poor way of encouraging people to use Bitcoin.

That's what a payment processor is for.

I will not be subsidising someone else's risk. The tools are out there for them to deal with it. If they can't be bothered to find them or gouge me because they're too lazy to deal with it they won't be getting a bean.

I see no reason to pay more for the honour of paying with BTC.
That's my problem as well. I would like to spend BTC on day-to-day things but on those rare occasions when I find an option of paying with Bitcoin, it usually costs significantly more than with fiat, so I don't go for it. I am also a bit concerned with spending crypto directly because it'll link me to that wallet and as a person that has Bitcoin. It's not illegal in my country, but Bitcoin is still in the grey area, so problems might occur.
If it becomes a casual option one day, I'll definitely go for it, but now it's just too rare and inconvenient.

You can get fiat based (bitcoin loaded) VISA Debit cards, Coinbase do a really good trustworthy one. That way you can pay for EVERYTHING with crypto (via fiat).

https://www.coinbase.com/card

But then your bitcoin will come under the control of a payment processor. Personally if I wanted to use a card to pay for stuff I might as well use fiat currencies which were meant to be loaded by cards anyway. Putting bitcoin on a debit card gives you the worst of both worlds IMO: it can be seized at any time and there aren't many things you can buy with it.

What do you guys think about it?

I am very happy to know that some people are using bitcoin as a means of payment instead of thinking about doing Hold, don't get me wrong, I also think about Hold, but it is a great exaggeration that analysts constantly appear in the channels of news talking about Hold and price go to the moon because it discourages people from using bitcoin as a means of payment.if the whole community starts talking more about using bitcoin as a means of payment I believe that many people will start using bitcoin as a means of payment

Would you book a hotel using bitcoins?

yes i would do that, however i must say that in my country there is not a single place that accepts bitcoin and i have some doubts about refund and legal issues if i pay any hotel from abroad with bitcoin.

I am also a bit concerned with spending crypto directly because it'll link me to that wallet and as a person that has Bitcoin. It's not illegal in my country, but Bitcoin is still in the grey area, so problems might occur.

I also thought about it a lot when I asked for my plastic card in the past and I just limited myself to withdrawing money from the ATM with it, I never used the card to shop in my country, in my country bitcoin is not illegal, but neither is it legal, the government only allows the use of bitcoin

I don't know how much it makes sense to discuss travel at this point, because tourism is on the ice in almost the whole world. But it's no wonder to me that someone paid for the hotel directly with BTC, it is a digital currency and its purpose is to pay for goods and services.

The year is 2020, and some are still surprised to see that some company, store or travel agency is accepts BTC as a means of payment. A good seller knows that the buyer should always be offered as many payment options as possible. I want to pay with BTC, you with cash, some other person with Visa, but at the end the revenue generated is important.

On the page that lists all the merchants who accept BTC as a means of payment it is currently 27 results in category of traveling.

He is just trying to be economical so paying more because he is using the crypto payment option will not worth it especially when he has fiat with him that can cover that cost. I think people are becoming smarter in the way they spend bitcoin because everyone now knows the potential. While spending crypto to access service might cost more than the equivalent in fiat. A lot of people might consider paying upfront with fiat all exchange the crypto for fiat to access such services.

This is basically a dream at this point. Satoshi developed BTC in order to primarily be used as a payment method and traded as an asset secondarily, but the reverse has been the reality so far and I don't think this will change anytime soon.

Personally, I am confident that BTC and the crypto market on a whole would flourish if the reverse case scenario became the reality which will only happen if majority of the investors realize this too.

This is going to be quite easy if you have a custodial wallet with Credit Card payment bills at your disposal.

You could just Book a Hotel > Book a date > Pay with your credit card > Pay when Bill is due > Pay it in the custodial wallet.

This is not directly using your Bitcoin, but it works just as much the same. You just have to have a credit card, though. There's no VCC anymore available that I know of that applies to my place, but maybe you could find one in yours.

Some custodial wallets could also pay directly the flights IIRC.

As I browse through my social media account, facebook, I saw this post saying he booked a hotel in Thailand using bitcoin in Travala ( application for hotel and accommodation booking.

A quick view for Travala, the heart of this system is Travala token (AVA) which helps the platform offer tokenized incentives to its customers and any other user that can help the platform grow. ( quick google seach)

Here's the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-v-pLZzVO6s&fbclid=IwAR2urpi9mDQ9k-Rs-L5N5-KYUbwYen01SmXtAdwkhsY16E3w5iJff8Y718I

There is no actual moment that he is booked and paid using bitcoin. What do you guys think about it?

Would you book a hotel using bitcoins?

Well, using bitcoins to book and pay for hotel expenses is convenient when it comes to travel, or vacation trips. Considering that it is on another country, there would be other expenses of a person like fare, food, souvenirs, and visitation to good spots in that country. If one can ease the expenses especially the stay in a hotel, by using Bitcoins, it'll definitely work out. Even though it is charged a little or rather a reasonable amount, other expenses which can't be paid through Bitcoin can be dealt with your own pocket money, it'll be enough.

That will not be a great news in Africa. If they is a way you can convince the hotel manager to create a block chain account, and you send them Bitcoin. Direct them to a trusted exchange that will send it to their Bank account. You will be considered a big person and appreciated too. For teaching them something new. Bitcoin is negotiable. So long they will receive money into their Bank account.

You used to be able to do it with Expedia. You used to be able to spend bitcoins in many more places than you can these days. That's hoarders for you.
yeah, I've know about it in the past but I never saw any one or trying to book a hotel or flight using expedia.
The problem with a lot of travel options with Bitcoin is that they often charge you more. A lot of the flight places in particular are terrible for adding 30-80 dollars or don't have the usual options at all.
I think that is going to be more natural when we're out to see the adoption process, there will be more charges for using crypto consequently of volatility.
I see no reason to pay more for the honour of paying with BTC.
I agree, this might be just a good alternative if you don't have any spare cash or you just have bitcoin with you at the moment. If you're rich enough then maybe its not going to hurt your balance.
Travala looks about right though. I might investigate further.
I only discover about travala just yesterday, as I browse through web I've read that their platform is completely inspired to Expedia but they added some features which makes it more interesting.

Well, this depends on my instinct. If I see the possibilities of the cryptocurrency to increase in few months of this journey I won't risk my Bitcoin to pay for hotel because it will make me lose to them. But, when I discover that, the market is downturn I will definitely do. Although this has been an issue for most merchandise who accepted or accepts Bitcoin, the volatility of the cryptocurrency make them be afraid of the carryout their payment through bitcoin.

Expedia has stopped accepting Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies for hotel bookings from 2018. Please check the facts and then reply. Please read this article
https://www.ccn.com/expedia-stops-accepting-bitcoin-driving-users-to-alternative-travel-sites/

Please learn the past tense, spend two minutes understanding what you read, then post so you don't embarrass yourself as you did here!
Do you understand the part "you used"?

That's exactly what he said, you used to be able to do it with Expedia. In the PAST!

Which sites? Name and shame.

It's not always the sites, in most cases, it's the middle man that gives you really really bad exchange rates and adds a few $ as a commission by default.
I know that for years LJ is doing this, hundreds of posts of people congratulating them for adopting cryptos....nobody bothering to check the rates.

But this is an extreme example.
In my case, I paid only something like ~3E for buying a 120E SSD, not that bad, too bad ...the shop dropped the BTC option.

Yes, such a calculation is indeed necessary but it doesn't hurt if we occasionally use bitcoin to pay for something or book a hotel in this case, because things like this are steps that have to get more support so that adoption like this can continue to grow well, but for me personally will be willing to use the bitcoin that I have to pay for anything and not care about the price that is going down or going up in the future.

For me payment system is not important. I will book hotel which i love, not one that support btc
We are in the bitcoin community and being able to use bitcoin as payment for the booking of your hotel does matter much. Before it's almost impossible to do these things but as we can see, things are becoming lighter for bitcoin to become accepted in most industries.
Hotels, tickets, and other amenities that we need, there are ways to use bitcoin for purchasing those services these days although it's still limited but at least, there is.
