I was approached by a user on telegram username: @markbaya

He claimed to be VIP user on stake.com and have information on Russia and Ukraine table tennis that are fully rigged / fixed and he wasn't looking for advances, but I should pay him commission from any profit made.

later on he sent me two picks and neither of them won, I asked him what had happened with his picks and as expected he blocked me, I could have lost my funds had I listened to him and he surely as hell would give back any refund.

I'm sure match fixation and rigging exist in sports betting but the truth is that these clowns have no information whatsoever about them.

Haha, you got him. I had also encountered the same on this. But I like to troll them back if they are trolling at me with this kind of tricks or asking some fund that I know for sure that was a fraud attempt.

Telegram is prone to scam and fraudster activity, we should be vigilance in dealing with random people especially when we are talking of money/cryptocurrency. Just like what happen on this topic, Beware!! Scammer inTelegram.

Anyway, thank you for sharing this, even this isn't new but of course, I hope they are aware now.

These sort of scams are rife on telegram, offering one or the other shady deal promising guaranteed returns, while a lot of people would be able to recognize this scams at a glance, there are some who are vulnerable due to greed or lack of knowledge, reason why they still send random unsolicited messages.
I made a thread some time back on protecting your contact details. You reduce the risk of being exposed to scammers if they can now easily contact you on various platforms and link your identity thereby tailoring the scam to your interests.

Also manage your social accounts to limit the contact you can have with people you do not know. Telegram/discord both have security options for that.

I was approached by a user on telegram username: @markbaya

Why do you even consent to communication with strangers? Telegram is become an app for scammers, at times it seems to me that there are more of them than honest users.

We can say that your telegram friend did not have luck with picks he send you, but be sure that he send those pick to someone else but with a completely different outcome. Let's say some people believed that way and maybe paid for some premium picks. You can read what is their modus operandi :

Step 1: Scammer Contacts 1000 Desperate people with a fixed match report with payment after win. And he will advertise his bid with attractive words like Sure Odds, 100% Guarantee, Max Bet, blah blah blah…

Step 2: Since the scammer is not asking for payment before giving the tip. Everybody will naturally be interested in trying out if he is a scammer or not.

So the Scammer would tell 500 People that Team A will win, while he will tell the other 500 that Team B would win.

And Guess what? – At the End of the day, there will be 500 very happy people would now trust our Scammer. And they would be happy to pay a sum of let’s say $50 as the promised fee to the Scammer.

Step 3: Approach the 500 People who won.

Now the scammer approaches these 500 people who won the last bet again. And tells that he has fixed matches today, but he wants upfront payment twice as last time as this is a Guaranteed match.

Repeat Step 2, Divide again into groups of 250 – 250.

Again there will now be 250 people, whom the scammer made rich twice. So their trust in the Scammer is now doubled.

So the Scammer can now happily ask them for more money for the next fixed match, and they might happily pay for it.

The Scammer will keep making money until he has a Single Customer Left.

So now you know, why there are so many Fixed Matches Reports you see on Facebook and whats the idea behind those.

The thing is really simple, it requires no financial investment and can be applied indefinitely. With the advent of social networks and crypto currencies, it has become even easier for scammers like this to do their dirty work.

People should just turn on their logic and think for a minute, if someone had real money-making opportunities, like these fixed matches for example, they wouldn't share them with strangers, they would take them for themselves. And "I don't have money right now" is just bullshit, everyone has some money, in worst case scenario they can take a loan if they are so sure in their method.

Don't take a candy from a stranger, it's poison.

^ Scammers are scammers they will promise everything including the stars and the moons just to gain anyone's trust and hide their evil intention before they will steal everything they can from you. The good thing that the scammer OP facing had failed to access your personal identity because some would even do that for other evil purposes. Scammers and hackers this day don't always act as a friend nor a concerned one they could even create a fake site that once you accidentally access the site they will get full access to your information and funds so always beware of these people whose spending their lives for evil action to earn. Nevertheless, take extra precautionary measures in every transaction you do or when dealing with someone whom you really don't know.

I remember the stupid fixed match scam back then in 2012 when i was a hardcore gambler along with a couple of my friends. Luckily i never fell for the scam but my friends who were the first to try to test it out lost thousands of dollars to it.

The truth is fixed matches maybe there(very few of them), but they can't just get leaked to the public just like that. One thing i usually ask such people trying to sell a fixed match is... "If you are so sure that the match is fixed, why don't they put all their life savings on the expected result and win big instead sweating of looking for $50 or $100 from people online?"

Well that question never gets answered.
