I was on some other forums (I won't put which forums as contain illegal things) and I've seen many users posting threads called "Free Giftcards Method" or "How to easily get free giftcards".
I was curious, so I decided to check it out.
So, the scam is this:
1) You go onto g2a.com
2) Select a giftcard that's over $50
3) Buy the giftcard with bitcoin (it has to be bitcoin apparently)
4) Before paying for it, you inject a script that "changes the timezone", which then also changes the deposit address for the payment
5) After paying, there will be a message saying "Sorry, this payment is expired" or something like that
6) They will apparently send the bitcoin back and the giftcard as well

This is quite obviously a scam, but I saw many users falling for it, since they were saying things like "Cool I'll check it out" and "HQ post, will try it"
Be careful with this out there Smiley

Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

You said that the bitcoin will be sent back? I don't think it was a scam if it would be back to the sender. Maybe it's just a system bug or a faulty program on the website. And why do you need to add a script to change the timezone and the deposit address? All legitimate transactions and offers doesn't need scripts just to run well.

If people use script/software that they don't understand at all or have good reputation, it's partially their fault for got scammed.
Indeed.  I don't think scripts would even help their transactions to be smooth and fine. It's just making them riskier especially if they cannot understand the program well.

Actually this had been around for so long and I think it is not only with that site, there is also a site with csgo it is about bitcoin too using that same script. You can not say it is a scam until you tested it actually. I came across it but didn't tested it just because it is an illegal way of making money even though it is working. With that process you can be making more than 1000$ a day. It is illegally don't get greedy to try it and it might turn out to be a scam too.

The scam part is that the address will get changed to the address in control of the creator of this "free money tool".
You basically send him your money and won't get anything in return.

Everyone can fake such a video. Don't rely on such "proofs".

With that process you can be making more than 1000$ a day.

Then why are you here posting about it instead of making money?  Roll Eyes

That's an obvious scam. I wonder how people still can fall for that.

Maybe it's a new verison of the scam script that tells you your payment has failed they will return your payment ...but do another one!  Grin  So they can scam you more.

Op, you should add the first part of the scam:
A newbie account claims he has have found a way to hack some website so you can get free cards or whatever
You need to install tampermonkey and install a script (encrypted) from a pastebin page.

Whenever you will go to that website, every address your browser sees will be changed to the address of the scammers.

But it's an old scam, not really new and it does need the user to be able to install a script, which weed out 99% of the ones foolish enough to be tricked by this, fortunately.

You will not make ANY money with this, illegally or not, because I actually have tested it, without buying anything.
When you input the script that "changes the timezone," it will always be the same address, which concludes that it's a scam.
If the timezone is actually changing, why would it be changed to the same address every time?
Don't fall for this.
