How about a 2 minute timer to be allowed to delete a report made in error or for whatever reason you realize it shouldn't have been left.  Could easily eliminate an embarrassing error which is no big deal but it could save mods some time digging through bad reports.  Cheesy

The easiest option is to wait and recheck before reporting than expecting theymos to do something that is not productive  Wink Tongue. If it is a bad report so be it, you will be careful next time around when you click the report button Smiley.

Well, mistakes happen, especially when you are reporting in bulk, so I think that delete report feature could  be useful. I know i wished there was such an option, especially when i made double report by mistake. Report being bad or not is no so important imho, but with this option forum staff could save some time and focus on legit reports.

I think that something similar was suggested recently, but so far nothing.
Yeah i accept about getting confused when you are reporting in bulk and earlier double report did not go down as bad and once they implemented that i was careful while reporting, for making things easier for the staff everyone who reports should be careful and it is a responsibility that everyone who reports should abide.

If theymos can implement the feature without messing around the code too much then i will be happy having that feature  Cheesy.

If you report again the post with "sorry, please ignore previous report" would suffice. I know what you mean but these types of mistakes are not that often and don't see any measures taken for things that happen 0.1% of the time.

I’m all for it !
Is it just me , but when I report a duplicate post from a member , I click to copy that post and then go back to the other post to report the duplicate . Sometimes I can’t remember which post I’m reporting as the duplicate , ie , the one I put in the box and /or the one I’m reporting ? Wow, I’m even confusing myself now  Smiley
But a couple of mins would get me back re orientated and I could get the correct order !
Saves valuable time for the mods
Hope this makes sense ?

LOL, that's exactly what happened and what I did.  Cheesy  However a delete option would make it easier for everyone I think.  It should have a very short timer (like 2 mins) to avoid payoffs  Cheesy

No issues, there's no embarrassment when making a mistake. We all make mistakes, and the moderator handling the report isn't going to judge you for it. The worst that will happen is you'll receive a bad report, and that's generally not an issue for most users. I do understand that a lot of users like to have as little bad reports as they can, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make too much of a difference. To put it into perspective I had 265 bad reports. You likely have a long way to catch up with the amount of bad reports I've made Wink

If you report again the post with "sorry, please ignore previous report" would suffice. I know what you mean but these types of mistakes are not that often and don't see any measures taken for things that happen 0.1% of the time.
Just be aware doing this would likely end up with both of the reports being marked as bad, assuming that the original report was a bad report. Its probably best to just leave it, we don't really care if you've made a mistake, and you letting us know you made a mistake won't have any effect on how we handle the report.

Don't sweat it if you report something wrongly. I've done it, and many others are doing it every day. What matters to the community, and those that handle the reports is that you are making reports in the first place Smiley

Basically, what Welsh just said. I have 170 bad reports from back in the day and can relate to the frustration of an accidental click or a mistake.
When thinking of implementing a feature to solve a problem you need to:
1. Figure out if there's actually a problem to solve.
2. Make sure the fix/feature takes into account all foreseeable interactions. IE: what will happen when a moderator starts looking into that report then the reporter deletes it in the meantime, that would be frustrating - also a new way to spam.

Ideas are appreciated and not all ideas start off as brilliant.
Thank you everyone for reporting, to quote from the report page:

Do not worry about your accuracy too much; one accurate report is worth many inaccurate reports.

More like a same suggestion was also made here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5239007.0, I think they were, nevermind.

I wouldn't mind if I did it by mistake that's for it to take by the mods, to assess them that's their craft, I guess. The good thing is you did it for the forum, it's maybe by mistake but you know how to use the system compare to other users who just pass by not knowing it.

Not trying to be rude but how can error happen in reporting posts, it's not like that you just press report button, you have to provide reason, and usually there is some rethinking, no?

Some people use tools to report posts and occasionally they can bug up. An additional problem that can happen is duplicate reports - personally, I probably have hundreds of bad reports due to that very issue.

Here's another scenario that may occur: you report the wrong post, or you have a large swathe of reports in tabs and you incorrectly enter a comment. Lots of things can happen.

You can click on the wrong thread and send a report meant for the thread below or above it.
You can have 2nd thoughts.
You have multiple windows opened and reported the message in the wrong window.
You misread the actual post you are reporting.
You can just be careless.
And finally:
Someone could have paid you $700 NOT to report it but you already did.  Cheesy
