Bitcoin is a decentralized and distributed digital currency, which means a donation or payment would travel directly from sender to recipient without the need for a third-party payment processor. Wikileaks began accepting Bitcoin donations in June. Decentralized social networks, such as such as Diaspora and Identi.ca, are also being developed to supplant Facebook and Twitter.

I think thats a pretty fair and objective way to put it.

I wouldn't call 26 comments "going nuts over".

I also think that many users of this forum are more interested in speculating on Bitcoin than in using it for peer to peer transactions, so the level of attention stories about the more ideological uses of Bitcoin get is going to depend on how the majority of people in a given online community are using it.

All I can say is that this is Bitcoin. I don't believe it until I see six confirmations.

Ha! I hadn't read it yet because I didn't realize it was Time.com. Nicely written. Provocative and eloquent.

Very nice and genuinely surprised that Time took a real (not omg hackerz, mybitcoin, an druuuuuugggzzz) look at the implications of crypto-currency.  It will takes thousands of articles like this to slowly build a self sustaining economy.
