I'm also surprised by the lack of news on the subject... perhaps everyone is simply waiting for Friday???
There were some articles that were published earlier and that's just a few days ago. I've seen only few of them but now, if you'll look to the news with the keyword of Bitcoin Pizza day, you'll see them published just few hours ago. Here are those early articles that remembered this legendary day and published their articles few days ago.
SimpleFX celebrates Bitcoin Pizza Day with 50% spread cashbacks] published May 14,2020.
ProBit Exchange Features Mukbang AMA on Its Very First Online Meetup on Bitcoin Pizza Day - published yesterday.

it is an important event in the BTC history, but people should be aware that buying pizza with BTC was not that streamlined, it was an exchange between two persons, one provided BTC, and other bought pizza for fiat, and exchanged for BTC
fact that this happened on this forum is historical for the forum, that is for sure, and will stay as a milestone

Sorry I seem to forget the bitcoin pizza day this year, maybe because we are in a situation where there is a global crisis, some of us struggles, and only if the world is in normal order now, we might discuss more about this commemoration if this is what we call it.

Bitcoin pizza day always reminds me that I should not spend my bitcoin, instead save it as it's very scarce that in the long run it could give us some fortune, we might miss digging real gold in our life but we have the digital gold that will value like gold or even more in the future.

One thing that most people don't realize about Laszlo and the Bitcoin pizza ordeal is that he didn't just buy 2 Large Pizzas (Papa Johns too, the most awful pizza you can buy here in the United States) for 10,000 bitcoins, he stated here on bitcointalk that he spent at least 30,000 bitcoins on several purchases of pizza.  Not sure if all Papa Johns or not.  Crazy stuff. Some call him an idiot for this, which is simply wrong.  He was the first to use it as a means of exchange and that sure is worth celebrating.

He can be considered as idiot if he is spending that same amount of Bitcoin today for some pizza. At that time, nobody can be able to predict that someday BTC can be so valuable...there was no Nostradamus at their side. Anyway, this was a good story and will forever remain as one of the most famous and amazing stories relative to Bitcoin. It is always good to be reminded with the Bitcoin Pizza Day every year.

I would very much like to buy a 🍕pizza and pay with BTC, but unfortunately no one in my city offers such an option, so I will order a pizza and pay in the classic way💰.

I wouldn’t call anyone an idiot if he pays something more than it’s really worth, it’s a matter of personal choice or in some cases bad information. If we look from today’s perspective, many people might be considered idiots because they were paying with BTC at a time when it was worth tens or hundreds of dollars per BTC, but such comparisons do not make sense if we are talking about something that is essentially a currency/means of payment.

This event that many people waited for bitcoin pizza day is also a bad day for market. The whales already took their shares in pizza - a pun that describe the current condition of bitcoin right now.. However, let us all be happy because this pizza day was the time  that bitcoin was appreciated.

For the bitcoin folks that has been in the community for about a year or two are already aware of that event. It's one of the greatest events that we can remember yearly which the value of bitcoin started. Don't forget the name of the guy that's involved in this historical pizza.
Thanks to Laszlo. If it's not because of this purchase, we don't know how long will bitcoin start to have value back then but forget about that if's. Let's all be happy on this bitcoin pizza day, who got their pizzas?

We can't really blame him for sure for what he just did. Bitcoin doesn't have that much value way back before, and because of him buying pizza's for tons of bitcoins, it introduces the value of bitcoin to people. But try to do the same thing today, buy items, goods and services through bitcoin as it is the best means to introduce bitcoin to people. By simply asking if they are accepting bitcoin, it will already trigger their mind what bitcoin is. The bitcoin-pizza event was truly historic and worth to commemorate, I hope soon, we'll not going to rely on the dollar value of bitcoin, thus, with it intrinsic value.

It feel silly to criticize someone for past actions that he had no way of knowing the repercutions in the future. He was invested into crypto way before most of us, and we only got here because of people like him using bitcoin in the first place, so I'd cut him a bit more slack. I agree with you in that we can't blame him for not knowing, nobody knew..

Thanks for the reminder. I did one before, I'll do it again.

We can't really blame him for sure for what he just did.

Blame him? You've missed the mark by some distance, or you're reading seriously misinformed news about him. People celebrate him. And it's why people are misled thinking holding is all that's needed to increase price (just as people think token burning is some hoodoo magic to magically pump price). You gotta spend and use shit to give the shit value.

That's right, we need to spend bitcoin and tell the world that we should not underestimate the value of bitcoin as a currency. In order for us to achieve mass adoption, we should use it and do more transaction that includes the use of cryptocurrency. It is just unique to imagine using bitcoin in buying Pizza, that was an outstanding and smooth move.

He deserved the celebration, the first Bitcoin transaction way back May 22, 2010, where he paid for 2 pizzas using bitcoin in Papa John's Pizza. If we still continue using bitcoin in our transaction even once a month, so that we can contribute to the promotion of bitcoin in our country. People just need to have some proof that bitcoin is legit and can be a mode of payment for a faster and less hassle transactions.

Still alive the people bu pizza using bitcoin, how take care and emotion him right now after seeing bitcoin become most valuable currency digital assets, many people always sharing his bad moment when selling bitcoin to buy pizza with cheaper price.

he feels bad obviously but we cant blame him at all because even our selve's we does that too. we also use our btc and other cryptos to buy food and something else because we dont have an idea that their value can grow in the future  and besides cryptos are really meant for spending , not for hodling primarily  . people doesnt share his bad moments or make fun of him but they only do it to remember what the guy did or in short to give honour to him because the guy just promotes btc that it can be really used for buying stuffs

Anyone who is criticising would have done the same or worse, this was a time when lots of people where ignorant and have zero knowledge about btc and its possible potential, I don't blame him, he is not a time traveller or fortune teller, he did what he felt was the right thing to do at that time,
We are all saying this now because btc was able to increase in value, assuming the reverse was the case, nobody will be talking about this, don't forget back in that time btc was tagged as scam, but now people see things differently.

I think what he did is purely favoring Bitcoin as that time the popularity of bitcoin is not been known outside IT community because i believ
that year and so is that majority of people who knew bitcoin is IT student or graduate as one of my cousin have idea
about Bitcoin wayback 2010 but of course because of
scamming idea he never enter or even bought a price on this one.
Imagine Buying Pizza using thousands of Bitcoin that time, comparing today?you can have thousand of pizza in just 1 bitcoin
so the situation is reversed lol.

and i believe following that is KFC buying thru bitcoin

and Starbucks also .
