There is a new documentary in Amazon prime showing how bitcoin is affecting and changing Africa.

It will be on Amazon Prime though, this is going to be interesting to watch. We all know that Africa is a prime example on how bitcoin can be adopted. And many services and platform are targeting this continent.

Anyway, the trailer has some sick quotes. "it's not that central financial authorities were a bad idea, but where it has failed us is where human greed is able to manipulate the system." Pretty much sums up the government and central banks.

Quite a weird ending though, what was that dude in the end, outside at night with his laptop, supposedly doing? Waiting for a person for a peer-to-peer transaction?

With its undeveloped economic structure, Africa is in a very suitable position for the Bitcoin revolution. Many crypto projects that are aware of this have already made attempts in this regard. However, in any case, it is necessary to increase the recognition of Bitcoin in that region. Because unless this happens, it will not be easy to create a sense of trust in people.

The real African investors are just getting to know about it or are still preparing to make their minds up to invest in it while price keep moving up (of course it won't wait for nobody).

This means for me, if price stays at what it is and we don't see a new ATH, bitcoin won't help Africa or any other person who buys and only hodls, in expectation of an increase. Because talking about helping or profiting, we have to see a considerable difference in hodling price or cost and actual price at a certain time.

I think your focus is wrong. What we are talking about here is not what African people have done so far. The possibility of the economic structure of African countries can change with Bitcoins.

Nobody blames the Africans, we are talking about the possibility that the future will be better for them. And our friends who are more dominant in that region can comment on this.

You are not getting it right here they are a lot of early adopter of bitcoin in Africa. Don't forget that Africa is filled with corrupt politicians especially in Nigeria. Most of the politicians from Nigeria bought huge amount of bitcoin as of 2011 I could remember when MMM came to Nigeria a lot of politicians sold their bitcoins to citizens that used that platform. Don't joke with Africans when it's related to money is just that we play low key. Most money laundering in Africa are used to buy bitcoin or sent to swiss bank.

I am from Africa, Many of your narratives are true because truly African are not early adopter. But this is not what the documentary is all about. It is about the way crypto is helping Africans especially in many part of Africa with low standard of living. For instance, before this bitcoin revolution, it is very difficult for many Africans to pick up a freelance job because many of the platform such can be access do not offer payment options that is available for Africans. It is a rigorous process with a lot of charges when you get paid with check. But today with the help of crypto, Africans can now compete with other freelancers around the world and also work and get paid online. In some countries like Nigeria, crypto have put smiles on the face of the people than the government. You can not work a kilometer in many domestic place without seen banners about cryptocurrencies. I've been keeping my hopes up about Bitcoin and African countries for a couple of years. Since traditional banking system is not as well-adopted, and the level of trust to it where it exists is probably low (due to general economic and political instability), people from the countries where it's the case could be eager to adopt Bitcoin as a fairly easy-to-use and probably more trustworthy than local fiat currency. The documentary has an attractive name, but the trailer doesn't really allow seeing even a glimpse of crypto revolution in Africa IMO, it's just walking around the topic. I do hope the film is better.

Many crypto related services and platform have been eyeing Africa for many years now, including Twitter's Jack Dorsey. They see the continent as sort of 'honey' pot, exploring the huge opportunity for them. It is also interesting that we see LUNO's name. there, if I'm not mistaken it is a crypto exchange that is available in Indonesia, Malaysia and South Africa. So perhaps they have sponsored this documentary to even get a foothold in that continent. The only drawback I see is that the region has problems with infrastructure and it's political unrest. But introducing crypto there will revolutionise the economy specially those unbanked population.

You have to look at the bright side. Africa is a huge continue, just imagine them using Bitcoin for the first time to create the next Bitcoin revolution? I think this is the intention of this documentary. Although there is a big barrier for Bitcoin to really grow in that continent (because of corruption or the ground work like Internet), but sooner or later there is a possibility that Bitcoin or crypto could explode in the next coming years.

This kind of documentary is an eye-opener in the oppurtunities that bitcoin is showcasing, in my opinion Africa is a hot bed for cryptocurrency revolution because most governments in Africa is either corrupt or they can't control the inflation of prices thus making the public lose their trust, with all the genocide and civil wars from the continent, we can only assume that scar will surely be a testament of most African government. The good thing about cryptocurrency being introduced in Africa is that most of them are open to changes and most of the countries have a gist of what is cashless transaction.

Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and Ghana are home to the fastest-growing communities of bitcoin users on the continent.

Perhaps, this should be an inspiration not just for countries in Africa, but to other countries that are striving to induce market adoption of cryptocurrency. But who knows, Africa is now starting to revolutionize their currency through this method, if it became successful, more people will buy bitcoins since they find it as a way to diversify their assets.

Though, there are other means to attract market adoption to bitcoin, but I think documentaries compared to movies are more convincing as it provides truthfulness and actual experience related to bitcoin, and first hand from people subjected to the documentary.

Paxful is full of Africans,who are selling Amazon gift cards at 65% of their full price for Bitcoins.
I have serious doubts that all those gift cards are acquired via carding,which is a big crime,but nobody wants to stop the BTC/Gift card trading on Paxful.By the way,Paxful is licensed by the US authorities.
This is how Bitcoin is affecting Africa,I guess-selling stolen/carded items for BTC.
I'm sure that many Africans are using Bitcoin in a legit way,without crimes and scams.This documentary should focus on both the BTC scams and the legit ways of adopting and using Bitcoin in Africa.

I have always talked on and on about making your own local community so you can exchange your Bitcoins without a third party. I have changed countries therefore had the opportunity to make a lot of African friends and trust me it is real . Every single one of them knows about Bitcoins , holds Bitcoins , sells it periodically , trade , send it to their families, take the trading classes.

I even had the opportunity to introduce them to forum and help them make their IDs like someone else did for me once , most of them weren't aware and we're just using Bitcoins for trading.

Unfortunately the government is never thinking about the people out there they have to fend for themselves , plus the situation is very dire and even a little helps.

The documentary is amazing but I do think they should not have shown the silk road right at the starting, it was a big thing I know but at the same time I do think they could have mentioned it afterwards .

The urban areas have been using M-Pesa for many years now and it was developed before Bitcoin. The problem is that M-Pesa is centralized around mobile service providers and you do not own the money that are floating around in a centralized financial network.

I will pay the $3 to see the documentary, because I want to see if it is an unbiased representation of the real circumstances in those countries. They have challenges with connectivity and also electricity and it is even non-existent in rural areas.

If they have problems with connectivity and electricity, crypto transaction would still be hard in some areas. But I think, those that have no problem with internet connection will enjoy the benefit of crypto. As most governments are corrupt as they said, people will prefer to use crypto which is I think not yet taxable in their region. Also, managing crypto-related businesses are very welcome in their region so they will attract more businesses coming in.
