Hi Y’all,

I don't know how about you guys but I'm really bored being quarantined in my flat. So I did the “Best” thing possible. I started to shop online. I had some bitcoins left so I decided to spend them as well.

And it turned out that was an adventure in itself. 

So I compiled my favorite options of spending bitcoins in an article, which I managed to publish on Paybis.

We have our own our rights and responsibilities on where will we use and spend our bitcoins. But you are right that spending your bitcoins for online shopping is not worthy because it is a huge loss for you if you don't take the opportunity of maintaining your long term investment. But if you are in need of money you could sell your bitcoins to provide all of your necessities and pay your bills.

What you are saying totally doesn't match what Bitcoin was created for. It is a digital currency, "invented" to make decentralized transactions, with just small transactions fee. Just one strange thing - if it is decentralized or anonymous, how warranty will work if you do online shopping?

But the problem is that Bitcoin (in it's current state of development) isn't good enough to be used as a digital currency. It's fees can get too expensive to be used for microtransactions. I know that Satoshi intended Bitcoin to be a "peer-to-peer cash" but it needs improvement in order to become that.

And one more thing... You can't compare Bitcoin with a car because cars lose value over time and Bitcoin's value goes up and down over time.

As an advise, its better to hold your bitcoins than spending it at the time, because we know that in the future bitcoin will worth a fortune.
But if it is for your necessities and needs during the quarantine period, I think it is an acceptable reason to spend them. Just spend them wisely.

That is an idea of an investor. Yes you are right but Satoshi's wanted the adoption of bitcoin that can be used for somethint OP has stated. Yeah bitcoin has a good value, but knowing it can be spend through shopping is one way to put adoption in place. You have a very close minded to such possibility. Since bitcoin is decentralized, feel free to hold your coins but dont expect other not to used it on something very interesting like these choices.

Let's just say some of us just want to increase the global usage of bitcoin as a peer-to-peer payment currency. Imagine if every single one of us is just holding bitcoin without spending it from time to time. Pretty much expect every single online store/service to stop accepting bitcoin payments. I'll spend bitcoin if I have to but likewise, I'm with those people who were saying that it's better to hold it for the moment. There is one thing that made me interested in how to spend my bitcoin and that's the gold part. I still don't have gold and that makes me want to diversify including into that asset. The details are unclear how to purchase one, I can think of having gold and the digital gold and that looks a win-win for me.

What about people who are holding for 5+ years? If someone is invest in BTC at time when it was worth only a few dollars or a few hundred dollars should he/she still just hold and wait for $1 million per BTC? Money exists to be spent, of course in a smart way (not on gambling and investing in ponzy/MLM schemes), and since there is a thousands of places where it is possible to pay with BTC at the moment why not use that option as well.

Of course there are those who are not in the crypto world because they want to use BTC as a currency, and also those who think that the fee of $1 is too much for a BTC transaction. Fortunately for them there are many alternatives that are cheap and do not require almost any technical knowledge.

Why not? as an investor, we can also spend, we can do both actually, so it's not wasting your bitcoin because as an investor, you'll ensure that you will not touch your investment until a certain time will arrive or it will hit your target.

Sadly, this is the mindset of the majority of bitcoiners right now, they see BTC only as an invesment rather than an electronic currency (Satoshi must be fuming right now). Last night my friend was having a problem purchasing some in-game promo in Dota 2 because there's a lot of people looking where to buy that in-game features in the stores. causing them to sold-out in every store they can find in our town. Thankfully we have the final option. where we will use BTC to purchase it by using our local BTC wallet and we managed to buy that Item with BTC I have. I'm so happy that I'm able to help my friend because it was already late last night he was knocking at our door to ask some help about it and finally earlier we have bought the Battle Pass in Dota 2. That's how I spent my BTC earlier and it was a great spending moment I will never forget about this purchased I made.

A currency will die if it was not used for its purposes. As mentioned above, if no one use bitcoin, merchants won't care about accepting them. Adoption will stagnate or even worse, slowly die.

Fees cant be expensive with microtransactions, because they depends from value "satoshi/byte". The bigger is the value need to be written in block, the bigger transaction fee will be. You can set the value of 1 satoshi per byte and your transaction will cost less than 1 cent if you make a microtransaction (by micro lets take something less than $10), but it will take a long time to be confirmed.

And people complaining about spending bitcoin sound like they have a problem of having too much USD and not enough bitcoin... simply reduce USD and increase BTC in your holdings, and then if you want to buy something, you'll be forced to use BTC... if not, then I agree, get rid of those USD to solve the problem...

The best thing to spend your bitcoin is for the things you need, like foods, personal hygiene, or to those things that makes you happy or better yet invest it, investing your bitcoin is one of the best ways to do with it. There are many people who want to have bitcoin because they want to invest it and have more money in the future.

It depends. If my goal is to buy a new house, then I would spend those 20 BTC to buy it. However, if my goal is to buy an island, then I would wait for Bitcoin to increase it's value so that I can buy an island for that 20 BTC.

And one more thing... You know what's the real problem with spending Bitcoin? If I were to go and buy a new car in a shop that accepts Bitcoin, that shop couldn't keep that Bitcoin. They must immediately exchange it for fiat and pay taxes in fiat. At least that's how accepting Bitcoin in shops looks like in my country. I don't see how that increases Bitcoin adoption. If a shop could keep that BTC, then spending it would increase it's adoption.

Well, the main reason of Bitcoin is to really use it if you will have a transaction with other people so what you did is right.

I'm also spending some of my Bitcoins monthly to pay some bills and keeping some of it for the long term. TBH, I didn't tried to buy anything online thru crypto. I'm always using digital cash to pay it but still it came from crypto as I only convert the Bitcoins into our own currency and will pay it thru online.

When some users here suggesting that you might hold it to increase your profit, my advice to you is that use your Bitcoins whenever and whatever you want since it is your own. If you want to spend it all then go. If you want to hold all of it then ok. If you want to do both depends on you.

There is nothing wrong using btc to shop online as long as you are happy and get rid of your boredom but think wisely, we are in a pandemic crisis now. In my opinion, i think it's better to save or invest that bitcoin you had left. Don't let the boredom get into you. Instead, trade it or invest it so that you can gain some profits or even much more. Well, in my opinion, spending bitcoin in an online shop is not profitable and can be wasted your money. The things you have listed there are good, except the one of gambling, because I don’t gamble often. But, I have never used Bitcoin to spend on anything, apart from using it for a transaction in some cases where it’s needed (mostly times when I’m selling using on counter trade). Spending all your bitcoins at this time with covid19 pandemic is a not a wise decision for my opinion. Mostly are jobless this time because of quarantine and there is no source of income. But those like us in the field of cryptocurrency are capable to earn through trading and investing. What I'm doing when I need to pay some bills or buy some things using my Bitcoin is that I will convert my Bitcoin into our own currency and that is what I'm using to buy things online. BTC to Fiat conversion is what I'm doing. Now Binance has added a crypto to fiat transaction and it also has 0 fees so for me, it would be more convenient to transact and convert my Bitcoin there because in the App that I'm using for conversion the fee is high unlike in Binance which has 0 fee.

You do have clearly elaborated on how Bitcoin can be spent in many ways which are not already new since I think everyone already knows those common ways but it was really a big help specially for those who are new into having Bitcoin and wanted to use it for quite sometime at this stage of pandemic.

Bank account is still necessary, we are going to have a hard situation if we don't have any money in the bank and if we only have a cash. They won't hodl these coins. That actually was my first thought when I read the OP. You will run out of bitcoin just by paying your bills and buying your basic needs alone. So there's really no prob with spending bitcoin. Bank accounts are still reliable for some other transactions where you need to refill your balance if you want to. I can say that is still a good way to spend your own Bitcoins since you are gaining stuffs for yourself. Its like giving yourself a gift but we must always be mindful on how we spend our Cryptocurrencies since there are endless opportunities in investing on most Alternate Cryptocurrencies. We need to create a budget management on where we can have an income supply since that can be a good opportunity when we have money to spare.

If you are converting bitcoin to cash and then using it then how can you say that it is your life and you are using it daily, you are using cash instead of bitcoins. Good thing that I don't have to resort to converting my bitcoin to fiat just to pay for my needs and wants because most of my bitcoin are in hodl. There was this time that I spent bitcoin to buy some figures but I have to convert it to fiat sadly, the reason is that the website doesn't accept any types of cryptocurrency as of this moment. I think that it is good that bitcoin is converted to fiat before spending but you have to watch out because the 1 USD worth of bitcoin today is different from the 1 USD worth of bitcoin in the future.

As an advise, its better to hold your bitcoins than spending it at the time, because we know that in the future bitcoin will worth a fortune.
But if it is for your necessities and needs during the quarantine period, I think it is an acceptable reason to spend them. Just spend them wisely.

bitcoin and other best top 10 coins is best to long term, but when you want taking profit form what you buy before this time is best bitcoin bullish crazy for this moment, I'm sure after this bitcoin will be drop, taking profit you can spend your money for shopping hahaha
