Bitcoin 100: Developed Specifically for Non-Profits

The non-profit I was talking about is rockzipfel: http://www.rockzipfel-leipzig.de/ . It's definitely non-religious and non-political. The idea is rather unique: They make it possible for parents to stay close to their small children while working and foster community at the same time. You go there and find everything you need in an office and your kids get looked after by volunteers from all over the world. I have been going there with my little daughter for about half a year now. In fact I am working there now

They have been featured in quite a lot of national media and won family friendlyness prizes and EU funding. They are a tax-deductible common-good non-profit in Germany and $1000 would make quite an impact there. Do you think they would be eligible?

Very interesting idea. It seems almost like intermediary help for families transitioning from dire straits to a more comfortable situation. I say they qualify.

Updated the Charities page at bitcoin100.org to reflect those under consideration.

Just to clarify, SPICES was started by a church, but since April 2010, it has been registered as an independent organization in the Registrar of Societies, Malaysia. Again, only if their exposure warrants it, coupled with what others feel about it. Overall, they are a very fine organization.

Another way they could earn possibly the fuller amount is if a new press release about their organization is published with Bitcoin mentioned twice (once may not be enough, and three times would be overkill). The news article would have to be some venerable source, oppose to a Yahoo type release. Use thinking outside the box here.

Our mission is to help communities transform their vacant lots into productive community gardens.  We have started with our first garden here in Concord, CA.  We have over 150 flourishing fruits and vegetables many of which will be donated to local charities to get them in the hands of those who need it most.

Edd, conidering we've had, ahem, issues, is it possible to put some wording on the bitcoin100.org site that specifies some Bitcoin100 guidelines, like "donates to non-political, secular charities" and "exists specifically to convince new charities to start accepting bitcoin?" Maybe we can consider those as the "established rules" going forward, and let #4 slide this time, too?

I didn't consider it extortion, but your assessment is correct, for somebody could easily construe it as such. I was just offering up a unique solution to do something for this venerable cause. Maybe a little fund drive for them, using their Bitcoin address for the donations.

Thinking further outside the box, we could do such as a case study as to how such an event could/would work, learning from the experience, sharing the results with other NPO/NGOs.

The worse that could happen is that Spices would receive some coinage of which they wouldn't have received otherwise.

I don't want to question the integrity of their cause or any other aspects of this endeavor, but a few minor issues accumulate to me having to express that this one may be a no go.

Perhaps a separate fund raising drive could work as well.

Another option comes to mind: Since August has already registered, he can get easily get whitelisted to start interacting with the community, whereupon he can set up a thread to solicit funds for his cause, thus allowing members to ask questions that may alleviate any concerns they may have.

To bullet points MY concerns, but to not take away from their noble cause:

• They already accept Bitcoin (for a while now)
• Fairly new
• Their About Me page is missing info
• Their Reach (the site indexed only recently)

None of the above is meant to diss HarvestLots in any way or fashion. The information is provided to aid Bitcoin 100 in making an informed decision as to if donating to them is warranted.

Bitcoin100 exists specifically to convince new charities to start accepting bitcoin donations. Many Bitcoin enthusiasts of various backgrounds from around the world have supported this project with time, effort and/or bitcoins. In order to use donated funds in a manner consistent with donor expectations, Bitcoin100 donates the Bitcoin equivalent of $1000 to non-political, secular charities that prominently display an option for supporters to contribute via Bitcoin on their website.

I'm all for donating an equal amount to  http://spices.org.my/ without any additional conditions. We can still ask politely for a press release or some other advertising, however.
