Regarding http://harvestlots.org, June 7th wasn't that long ago. It could be that fr33aid convinced them to start accepting Bitcoin, and took some time to contact us once they got the Bitcoin option working. I can ask Teresa how well she knows the charity and if she can vouch for them.

Phin, I'm glad you're investigating. I'm afraid I have to agree with you that Harvest Lots doesn't qualify... but not for the reasons you've given. What August does on his personal time shouldn't disqualify any organization he happens to be a part of. I saw no indication that Harvest Lots will be a vehicle to carry out any political agenda he may have.

However, Harvest Lots is not a registered non-profit charitable organization yet.

We are currently in the process of acquiring financing to establish the non profit corporation, build the garden in Concord and to launch the website HARVESTLOTS.ORG.

I only just now saw the great work you've been doing with Bitcoin 100. Amazing. I have an idea for a great charity that might provide a lot of press coverage in the Netherlands for Bitcoin and Bitcoin 100. Every year, a big radio and television station work together with the Red Cross to collect money for a noble but 'forgotten' cause. Three DJ's live in a glass house on a marketsquare for 6 days and encourage people to bring in money with their own actions.

It is by far the biggest collective action we have in the Netherlands and it's already spread to Belgium, Sweden and Switzerland. It's amazing how many people are moved to help. Last year €12.2 million euro's were collected to help prevent infant death. That's quite a lot for a country with only 16 million people.. Over 75 percent of all Dutchmen watch or listen to the program. Wouldn't it be great to ask them to accept Bitcoin?

This year it's about people dying from diarrhea. The action starts at the end of the year but donating via their website is possible the whole year. I think it would very much contribute to the credibility of Bitcoin as a legitimate currency in the Netherlands if it'd be an option to give in that way. The press coverage here is increasing but getting a big player like Serious Request to use Bitcoin might increase the awareness a great deal. Hopefully they're willing to consider it.

Thank you for accepting spices.org.my as one of your beneficiaries.

We have mentioned bitcoin100.org with a link to your charities page in our updated Donations page. We have also removed Paypal from the page.

Paypal has disabled our account from receiving donations because we could not provide a tax-exempt certificate. Although we are a registered non-profit organization providing much needed services to children with learning disabilities (who are mainly neglected in the public school system in Malaysia), we have not been able to obtain a tax-exempt status yet due to politics & bureaucracy. Very few organizations in Malaysia have this status.

This is where Bitcoin shines. If there are willing donors, nobody can stop us from receiving.

We look forward to receiving the much needed donation.

There were numerous concerns about spices being too much of a religious organization from our donors, and also apparently that this organization has been accepting Bitcoin donations for a very long time already, while the goal of Bitcoin100 is to convince new charities to start accepting bitcoins, not just to donate in general. When I saw the positive comments and the publishing of the "Accepted" status on your website, I jumped the gun and alerted the committee that their FIRST Bitcoin donation since 2011 (besides a test transaction) was on the way! I was hoping that this might convince the committee that Bitcoin donations actually worked after all these years of waiting.

Pouncer, since I'm responsible for updating the website, I should assume some of the responsibility for this. Going solely on Rassah's last public statements concerning SPICES EIP (quoted below), I changed the status for them on the charities page to what you saw. I've happily deferred to Rassah's judgement in these matters since he has been more active with Bitcoin100 than I have since almost the very beginning but I wasn't aware of any new circumstances that might have resulted in a denial.

That being said, I'm on the fence about this one. If I had done a bit more research before posting my own endorsement of sending them the official Bitcoin100 donation, I might have realized they were a religious organization and voted against it. Since I didn't, however, and they don't seem overtly religious or to be pursuing an aggressive recruitment agenda, I was willing to overlook my misgivings and attempt to be more diligent in my due diligence in the future. Now that the matter has been brought out into the open, I'll just share my feelings but remain open to whatever Rassah and the majority of Bitcoin100 donators decide.

As stated above, spices.org.my has been accepting Bitcoin donation since 2011. Depending on their reach (read exposure on the internet), a consideration of a 1/3 of what's currently being doled out if they upped ante up on giving the Bitcon logo a more prominent location on their site. Again, only if their exposure warrants it, coupled with what others feel about it. Overall, they are a very fine organization.

Another way they could earn possibly the fuller amount is if a new press release about their organization is published with Bitcoin mentioned twice (once may not be enough, and three times would be overkill). The news article would have to be some venerable source, oppose to a Yahoo type release. Use thinking outside the box here.

I guess I'll have to be the asshole to tell them that our charity fundraiser is to convince new charities to start accepting, and to ask them for promoting bitcoin on their front page, or to ask them to put out a press release? I'm not sure that would be good for Bitcoin's reputation though, us extorting a charity that caters to mentally challenged kids (double-whammy).

Edd, conidering we've had, ahem, issues, is it possible to put some wording on the bitcoin100.org site that specifies some Bitcoin100 guidelines, like "donates to non-political, secular charities" and "exists specifically to convince new charities to start accepting bitcoin?" Maybe we can consider those as the "established rules" going forward, and let #4 slide this time, too?

Spice seems like a great charitable organization, and I believe this is the first time an entity already accepting bitcoins has made a formal request of Bitcoin 100 for additional funds.

That said, why don't we just make a one time exception and send them the $1,000 USD from the general pool? My thinking is that nobody will probably object since probably most of the their donations have already been allocated to other NPOs, leaving only the remaining donators who've donated larger amounts, namely Roger and Zhou (among perhaps a small handful of others).

I'm sure we (read bitcoiners) will gain mileage from such an act. Though your pocketbook is probably fine, I rather not see you dole out too much from your account seeing that you've been doing such a wonderful service acting as the trusty of Bitcoin 100 gratis.

If anybody has any objections, please state your case. Nobody here will bite your head off.
