Thank you kindly, dogisland with Strongcoin, for your wonderful pledge. For clarification purposes, let me see if I have it correct. Along with donating 1 BTC to each charitable organization (no max), you're also donating the transfer fee? My understanding that instead of waiving the transfer fee, it will simply be donated into the very next pool. This way nothing will have to be changed on the backend of your site, and it would only be a matter of a couple clicks on your part when that time arrives. Once the pool has been transferred, the calculated fee amount will then be deposited into the already newly created next wallet. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm right, WOW! A second thank you is in order.

You're welcome.

Yes I'll donate 1 BTC each round and also add the transfer fee which is 1% or 1BTC whichever is smaller.

Thanks for helping to organise this, it's a great idea.

Thank you for the clarification, dogisland, as well as for your kind words.

I've only read the last few posts here so not sure if anyone has suggested this.

I can see you're doing some vanity addresses. I was thinking perhaps something like

1Jan100xxxxx
1Feb100xxxxx

Then we could target January as the first round February as the second etc. A bit like bitlotto with a different address each month.

Only issue is no 0's or O's allowed. Only o's. I still don't now if Phinnaeus will be able to get a charity, let alone one a month.

I feel we won't need other vanity addresses. I don't even know how one is generated, let alone why it can't be done within seconds. All I have to say is that this better be the most AWESOME address known to man, or I want my money back.

Quote

The beauty of the above quote is that either do I know when and how I (we/us) will get that first charity, but we're hedging our bet with Bitcoin100 to aid in that manifestation. As far as the one a month aspect is concerned, once the ball is rolling, I'm shooting for a couple every two months, thereby doubling expectations. <--humor

@Phinnaeus you're right about my earlier proposal, too hard to understand atm, i was trying to suggest that having more than one person in charge with the funds could be better for everyone, i know holding some important funds could be a burden for one individual too. Now we could really use those multisig scripts that are being implemented in the client.

How about doing it in a new way... ?
We know that one of us, Gavin or you Phinnaeus will have to be present and talk to their representative in person, i personally don't trust on-line chats for this kind of stuff. Then explain what bitcoin is in a few words and the fact that lots of people are willing to donate bitcoins right away for their cause. Set them up with a wallet and take note of the first address in a moment.
From that instant we could have 24h time span to donate a minimum of 100btc to their address.
This way we can have total transparency monitoring the address with blockexplorer and if our courageous representative is willing to record the whole thing we could see it on youtube, or use twitter for updates. Too much to ask i know.

Remember bitcoin is a new concept, why not take advantage of all it's features.

I'm curious about what Tahoe-LAFS is, too. The website description is still rather vague about actual implementations.

I'm find with Strongcoin. I see it as just an online version of a regular Bitcoin wallet. Once I have the private/public key pair, it's fairly easy to import that into both strongcoin and a local wallet. I personally see no reason to use it, since I can keep the backups and such myself, but having it accessible remotely just in case would still be a benefit.

I do have an address that starts with 1BTC1oo, but after it's a bunch of letters, and looks weird. I'm trying to generate something like 1BTC1oo1nYghe... with a 1 separating the rest of the characters. Shouldn't take more than a few hours if I'm lucky. It's not needed, but I think having something like that to easilly identify it as a Bitcoin100 charity address will be nice.

Shortly, I'm going to address paraipan's post, but first a little kudos here. Like I said earlier, I haven't the slightest idea on how the generation of a vanity address works, but I now do see the beauty of it. I admire your efforts, Rassah, and look forward to this AWESOME generated address.

Quick Funny: After God spoke with Noah about the forthcoming flood, he instructed his four children to bring him gopher wood to build an ark. Rassad, the younger, felt that gopher wood was inferior and proceeded to plant seeds to grow vanity wood so others will know their name. As time passed, the tress started to grow under Rassah's constant watch. Meanwhile the ark was built and the rains came. Before the doors closed and the ark went adrift, Noah called out to Rassah one last time. But dad's call was not heard, for Rassah was in the North Forty smoking hash with the furs while waiting for the vanity trees to mature. To this day, that is why there are only four great nations instead of the intended five--until now. The Bitcoin Nation is about to rise--when Rassah II hashes out the vanity tree address.

To recap: Once the address is generated, Rassah and Roger Ver will have control of Bitcoin100's wallet. When it comes time to transfer funds into the charitable organizations, either one will be able to do it. Along with my personal guarantee, Roger Ver's reputation, and Rassah's coffee table watching every move, consider the wallet secure.

Hence the creation of Bitcoin100--hedging a bet for charitable organizations into becoming more receptive to implementing a Bitcoin donation option on their respective websites. There should be no reason for them, or others, to look upon this gesture as a bribe. No one suffers if they decline yet, fundamentally, all parties gain if accepted.

I believe that this issue is solved, or will soon be, once the vanity address is hashed.

There'll come a time and place for either or both approaches--on-line chat and in-person meeting, sometimes both working in concert with each other. Depending upon all the variables would dictate who would have the pleasure of speaking face-to-face with the charitable organization's representative.

A given. On the same page here.

The hope here is to not have a waiting period. Once the nod is given, fire up the androids.

Total transparency is not a problem with this endeavor. I don't trust YouTube, for this is what happened last time I was on there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4OzXjOKi9Q

I'll be maintaining a Twitter and Google+ account soon after I break in my new coffee table.

Thank you, finway. The OP list has been updated reflecting your pledge.

Thank you again, paraipan.

Anybody else have questions or concerns, please feel free to ask for, the most part, I'm making up the answers as I go along. In essence, this whole Bitcoin100 endeavor rest inside my head, with each post revealing more of what it consist of. I, for one, can't wait til seeing this through fruition, unlike my Bitcoin Lemonade Stand of which I abandoned due to waiting for the vanity shingle that was to be the pièce de résistance hanging over the counter which was to be provided by a member who's no longer allowed on this BBS.

I have been staring at it long enough. PUT ME IN THE 69 GAGE!

However I am only good for 2btc with one org.  But I will go 1btc more for a second org.  Or if you want 3btc split with 1btc per org for up to three orgs.  However you want to cut it up.  Make it so.

We have a weiner!!! BitcoinPorn has opt to pledge 3 BTC--1 BTC each to 3 CO's--by stating he wants to be #69 on the list. The OP list has been updated, not only reflecting his pledge, but also showing me matching his kind contribution. I love Bitcoin so much...pause...had to wipe away tears.

Hell, BP, if I had been thinking, I would have put you in that spot for 1 BTC and simply funded it for you via proxy. It's a perfect fit.

Thank you kindly for your pledge, BP. Now get back to a trollin'! (as others claim you do)

After about 8 hours, I finally got

1BTC1oo1J3MEt5SFj74ZBcF2Mk97Aah4ac

Sorry it's not too spectacular. The reason it takes SO FRIKIN LONG to generate is because the only way to do it is to basically mine/brute force for it. If it took seconds, I would be able to generate a private key for any public address. But thanks to Bitcoin's security, we ca only generate a few of the characters at most. BTC1oo1 takes about 4 to 8 hours. Add one more character to that, and it'll take a month.

We'll use 1BTC1oo1J3MEt5SFj74ZBcF2Mk97Aah4ac

I have sent the key to MemoryDealers, and have imported it into both the wallet software running on my PC and into Strongcoin. Works on both. If you look at the address in Blockexplorer, you'll see some money moving in and out. Just me testing to make sure private keys were imported correctly. The current 3BTC sitting there is my initial pledge (My other 2 or the 5 BTC are in my savings which I can get later.)

Your initial pledge is 5 meaning 1 per charitable organization, currently maxed at 5 charities. This way, nobody puts in more than 1 BTC or $3.14159265 USD max into any one pool unless they're honoring a pledge of which they've previously expressed they desired to do so. That said, take 2 BTC out, leaving only 1 BTC in.

Great work, BTW. That's an AWESOME address, but can you make the first J lower case and second j upper case? It's a religious thing. Only kidding.

Now I have another request. This one should be a tad simpler. Generate another address starting with 1BTC314(any letter next) and grab the first one it generates. This is for a special pool of which I'll explain once you get it and have shared it with Roger Ver. Whistle when you have it done, for I'm the acting TSA agent at the Ark, making sure only 2 alpacas board.

I'll start broadcasting the first address once you've removed your other 2 BTC and it's settled at 1 BTC within.

Thank you again, Rassah.

Actual firstbits is 1btc1o so we can use http://firstbits.com/1BTC1oo as the short form of this address if you want to.

Also, http://firstbits.com/1BTC314 is not take yet so once it is found we can use it as the short form for that address.

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

Pulled 2 out, so only 1 of mine is in it now.

You are able to send money to it. Phinnaeus is still in charge, so up to him to say when to send.

I'm generating a few 1BTC314's for you. Only takes 10 minutes tops (add an extra character to it, and it takes 10 hours. One more and it takes 20 days)

Now that Rassah has taken valuable time to hash Bitcoin100 a vanity address, and Roger Ver is second in command, so to speak, of said address, I guess it's time to start funding it by honoring your pledges, although my initial hope was to have at least 100 pledgers before doing such, but I see that dancupid is getting his panties wet, dying to donate Bitcoin. That said, have at it, dancupid.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING!

Unlike future slush pool wallets, of which we'll have a more general idea as to which charitable organizations those wallets will be funded for by the honoring of pledges, this wallet address currently does not enjoy such luxury. Let me repeat that: If you opt to honor a pledge by contributing to this particular wallet, you do so with the understanding that there's no charitable organization currently allocated to it. You will only do so with the full knowledge that what ever charitable organization this particular funded pool eventually goes towards, will be one that's held in high regards and, hopefully, not one that doesn't favor your belief system. In brief, only honor your pledge if or when you're comfortable, whether it be with this first wallet or others down the road.

With that, I'm honoring my pledge by adding 1 BTC to the wallet via this address: 1BTC1oo1J3MEt5SFj74ZBcF2Mk97Aah4ac

Remember! Only 1 BTC max ($3.14[159265] USD max, when the exchange rate passes this up for the final time--not looking back) is all you need to donate into any given pool, with the exception of your generosity or you're honoring a pre-stated pledge.

Bruno

EDIT: After posting this post, then adding to the wallet, I took a gander at the current exchange rate. It amazed me to see that since the creation of Bitcoin100, the price has started to climb, all due to the excitement centered around this endeavor. And some say that the butterfly effect is not real.

Seriously, this will afford us the leverage needed, for once a representative of a charitable organization realizes that no less than $314.16 is about to be donated to their just cause, and all they have to do is add Bitcoin as a donation option on their website, it becomes somewhat harder for them to refuse, albeit that is always clearly their prerogative.

I'm fine with any charity that doesn't have religion as one of their main 'selling points'. But I guess that goes for most charities. I'm not familiar with most of the posted charities though. Can someone confirm this?
