Is ETH better than BTC for payment?

If comparing bitcoin transactions with ethereum now it's better bitcoin. Especially with the bitcoin segwit being increasingly
recommended to be used as payment. If you want a cheap and fast transaction you can use LTC, XRP and TRX. These three
altcoins better than bitcoin.

I didn't use ETH that much after getting paid mainly with BTC, perhaps one or two times in the last year.
I guess the network effect is still the main factor in choosing between BTC and ETH. If you got paid by BTC, you would be using BTC. In fact, I still use BTC even though it has higher fees than ETH. If the BTC transaction fee is still manageable, I don't have the reason to use ETH for payment.

You probably just hold them, that is a reason why it doesn't matter to you. Have you tried using BTC when the network is on heavy load? This usually happens during rise of the price of BTC. The fee during that time is totally unbearable to make smaller transaction. Like, if you want to get a quick confirmation you will have to be paying a lot of fee.
If you pay less, your transaction is going to take hours to confirm. That is when people prefer to use some other altcoins like LTC or ETH.

For smaller payments, you can use Ethereum or Litecoin, but now there is a solution built on Bitcoin - the Lightning Network, which provides super-fast payments. But, when you send millions of dollars, I would personally send BTC to the beneficiary because it is the most trusted crypto payment method that we currently have. Ethereum reversed transactions in the future - DAO.

to be honest I am not very expert in the field of blokchain especially in determining the exact time or number of sizes of each ETH / BTC coin. but I think for speed issues it seems that ETH is much faster than BTC in terms of payment.

I normally suggest ltc, it's not perfect but it has segwit and a 1mb block every 2.5 minutes.

Eth txs are definitely cheaper than btc though srull from when I last used them...

First of all, it totally not applicable to compare with any other crypto in the market now or in the future because bitcoin is an extraordinary project no matter how old you may think it blockchain system is and I'm sure if ETH was the crypto the governments against back then none of ETH enthusiast will still support ETH.
Second, the betterment of a project is not only about blockchain improvement but level of communities, investors, traders and miners support. Theres alot of project out there which claimed to have 6.0 and not supported.

Very often we see people sugget to use ETH or any alternative coin for cheap and faster tx. I am going to share some information which will proof that it is no better. I may be wrong too, I am not an expert here. Just sharing what I have got.

BTC Avg. Block time- 10 minutes
ETH Avg. Block time- ~14 seconds (now)

So, ETH will get around 43 blocks = 1 BTC block

BTC block size- 1 MB (Let's say we use Legacy only)
ETH Block size- 20 to 30 kb (Let's say 25kb on average)

How much byte can both proceed within 10 minutes?
Both BTC and ETH will be able to proceed 1 MB tx data on average.

Is not both same in term of handling tx? Sometimes BTC is even better with segwit.
Just sharing some random thoughts, I am not expert technically. So, I may be wrong in many ways.

I know the thread starter has posted in favour of Bitcoin as his choice for payment but if you try to make payments practically ethereum is much better, even today my btc payment is still pending after almost 5 hours while eth payment hardly takes 2 minutes or less, this is my own opinion but majority of people will share their experience here and we can conclude the result later on.

In this case if the speed of blockchain will determine how possible the merchants to create an instant transaction that will help them all to avoid the volatility. BTC is good for the commodity or as an investment but it's not good to be a payment system and ethereum is winning in this case

Waiting time or the transaction fee should be priority while making any payment.

I don't really think people won't priority for just few minutes but if it is money every cents counts so some people say ethereum is better but we need to know ethereum is cheaper and less used compared to bitcoin so if everyone thins ethereum is better payment option and start sending ethereum at a time which will clog the pool and will increase the fee as well.

I know one thing that ethereum coin is better than butcoin, it is to invest with a low amount of capital. Because you cannot invest bitcoin with a minimum amount since your earning might not good as ethereum coin, even for 1 eth there is an assurance that you would earn profits. However the two top coins are very good to invest with in terms of its market volume. And also same top coins for a good to invest even for a long period of time.

I think ETH is in the middle. Maybe if someone wants a lighter, faster, and lower cost, they use LTC. And now everyone is talking, I don't remember ever using ETH for payment. I only use ETH to transfer tokens or deposits / withdrawals from my balance. Strange, I brought an sms online to verify the service and even though it costs $ 49, I use BTC as a payment, not ETH.

Yes, I used BTC when the fee was $2, but it rarely spikes like that. Typically it's just around $1 or less. The problem with ETH, it's cheaper but not as cheap and fast as XRP or XLM. So when I wanted to move funds between exchanges or wanted to gamble, I'd rather use XRP.

a $1 BTC fee compared to a $0.1 ETH fee (last time I checked) is not really tempting to store ETH for payment, considering the price volatility.

My point is if you want to make small transactions, ETH won't help you do that. Better use XRP or XLM.

I have tried using the three and you are right Litecoin get the top spot because of it's low fees and fast confirmation these three are the most popular in online wholesale and retail stores, there are other coins in consideration Nano is good and so are the others like XRP, but I guess tghis three are experimental for online stores.

for payment, I also sometimes use other payment alternatives. it's because of the lower fees. however, in the case of bitcoin and ethereum, most people prefer bitcoin. it's just that, personally, I chose ethereum as my transaction tool so far.

In my opinion, the handling of tx is better than ETH, but if the payment is I think it is better ETh than BTC, because ETH has lower shipping fees than BTC.

More scalability and more tx can be processed and that doesn't need a lot of time and the volatility can be avoided, as the result for this process and the sellers can secure their profit without worried about to get a loss even when they didn't hold their money. ETH is much better than bitcoin to be a payment system.

There are more crypto coins which have very low transaction fee or zero fee and fast transaction like XRP.LTC, Neo etc. But if choose in Ethereum and BTC for payment then I will choose Ethereum as it has fast transaction and low fee.

In my opinion, ETH is much better than BTC because eth is much faster and it has cheaper fees than bitcoin. But there are more altcoins that are more better in making payments like XRP, LTC, etc because they have more cheaper fees than ETH and BTC.
