No where free and best can be clubbed; if you look for free VPN services then you need to compromise your expectations.

I have been using private internet access for years and it is comparatively best VPN service provider for cheaper prices.

I have an $8/month ProtonVPN subscription for 5 devices, it lets me connect to most of the countries in the world which is handy not only for circumvention but also if a site is region blocked for some odd reason. It's very cheap and they also take bitcoin payments. They even have a free version but there are much less servers available to connect to. The ones that are available are naturally congested with traffic but you can find a couple of Plus servers that have a low utilization.

No where free and best can be clubbed; if you look for free VPN services then you need to compromise your expectations.

I have been using private internet access for years and it is comparatively best VPN service provider for cheaper prices.

Private Internet Access sold itself to a spyware company so I would not trust that VPN not to gather your personal information any more.

I use avast, it's more than enough for me and it's dirty cheap too, pretty strong IMO, I noticed that it safeguard me even when I'm browsing the net, for example all those scam ads in google search engine this avast antivirus put a orange sign on them, the safe links are in green, I don't know how this antivirus can detect unsafe links

As far as i know avast is an antivirus rather than a VPN. Do they provide VPN Services for free or for subscription ?
Let me know their rates if possible.

A free or cheap VPN service might not be the best solution if you are a privacy oriented individual. Most VPN providers are required by law to keep logs of their clients and their internet activity. This can be shared and sold to third parties and government agencies. A court order and investigation can force VPN providers to release client information to police or government agencies. So if you think you will be protected with a VPN, that's not necessarily the case. You might be willing to keep your Internet activity hidden from your ISP, but in that case you are trusting a cheap VPN provider with that data.

Have you heard about the Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, and 14 Eyes? It's a huge surveillance network where powerful countries have made an alliance (a pact) to collect and share data on users between themselves. Read about it here > https://restoreprivacy.com/5-eyes-9-eyes-14-eyes/.
The Five Eyes should be avoided at all costs, but if possible, also privacy services from the other countries and member states.

That's true but an expensive VPN doesn't guarantee that they're not collecting logs either. VPN servers are not extremely expensive to set up and when you factor in that cheaper VPNs have a larger userbase, more people are paying for the same number of servers and in turn making the profit margin bigger.

I don't trust VPNs to not keep logs, expensive or not because there is simply no way for anyone to verify that. I do, however appreciate some efforts to display transparency over what they do, like ProtonVPN having a transparency report. I trust them over most of the other VPNs partially because I'm a user of ProtonMail and I find their efforts at preserving privacy pretty commendable.

If OP wants something to preserve privacy with 100% certainty, use Tor. Don't bother looking for VPNs.

I assume that varies per country, mine is from Sweden and can be paid per any time you want (minutes to years) using crypto. As far as I know they don't keep logs, and as far as I know Swedish law allows that.

Alternative: how about setting up your own OpenVPN server on a VPS? I've recently tested it and got it to work, just $4 per year is enough to get a VPS with 250 GB monthly bandwidth (counted in both directions for VPN-usage).
The VPN-software itself won't keep logs for sure. Those very cheap VPS servers share an IP, but I don't know how much can be tracked there.

When you say they are not the best, what do you see the drawback in their service ? Are they slow speed once connected ?
I saw they are offering big Christmas discount Plus 10% on bitcoin payment discount. How much discount does your coupon gives ?

Well, I switched to openVPN on my dedicated box a while ago (witch has it's own drawbacks, but hey, i had a dedicated server ready, so i went ahead and used it instead of renewing my trust.zone contract), but the main drawbacks of trust zone were the fact that connections got dropped once in a while, and their nodes get overloaded from time to time, resulting in lower speeds (due to the fact their network isn't really big). But their price/quality ratio was defenately OK.

As for my coupons: I have a coupon to apply for a 2 year contract, and one to apply for a 3 year contract. After applying the 2 year coupon, you'll pay 1,95€ instead of 2,19€/month for a 2 year contract. I just realised my coupon for a 3 year contract gives less discount, so you'll end up paying more per month for a 3 year contract than for a 2 year contract...

Add 10% discount for bitcoin payments, and you'll pay 42,21€ for 24 months (1,76€/month).

By the way, when i said that openVPN on a dedicated box or a vpn has it's drawbacks, i mean the following: when using openvpn on a vps/dedi box you'll only be able to use one node, so one exit point (ip) so you cannot use it to try out different netflix zones, or test services from multiple country's/ip's. The VPS is also linkable to you, so it's not ideal privacy-wise (since the exit ip is still linkeable to you). I still use it when i'm not at home and i connect to a public wifi tough, my packages pass trough the vpn tunnel to my server, so i don't have to be afraid from public/hotel wifi anywore Smiley

This is basically what I do for my browser when I don't feel like lugging a heavyweight VPN. The only disadvantage is that OpenVPN forces all of your traffic to be routed so it temporarily drops packets while connecting/disconnecting to it. This is a minor inconvenience while I use my remote desktops because they take seconds to stop showing their connectivity lost UI, so I just use Squid with a custom port instead for just my browser.

Why do you need a VPN? Roughly speaking the reason for use will determine which services are the best.
Everyone above agrees that privacy is difficult to achieve, so if you want to use them to conceal your identity, you should think other ways.

We are left with options such as speed, avoiding ads, and price. If you want to use a service that is prohibited in your country and does not care about the speed, then perhaps some of the free options will be suitable for you.
But if you want fast servers, the paid services are the best. You can compare the quality and the price.

Which VPN is that one ?
Mullvad.net
They take BTC and BCH. Until they accept LN, I use ShitFork BCH (small payments, low fees, and accepted with zero confirmations) to pay them. They also accept cash by mail for full privacy, but I haven't tried that.

Gullo's Hosting (when ordering, click "Use a coupon code". Note: no support, so you're on your own at this price).
There's a howto on how to install a OpenVPN no a NAT-VPS.

There's also this, but I haven't tried it. Again: you're on your own Tongue

The only things has alarm bells ringing is where it states the "cons":

Mullvad Cons
– Located in Sweden (14 eyes)
– Not very user-friendly
– Mediocre customer support

Sweden is a member of the 14 Eyes surveillance alliance together with Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and the 9 Eyes members.
https://restoreprivacy.com/5-eyes-9-eyes-14-eyes/

That particular VPN may or may not keep logs, but take a look at the following achieved article from the US Department of State.
Sweden is one of the many countries that have signed an agreement with the US Department of State in regards to obtaining and exchanging information and evidence in criminal investigations.

Quote
Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties (MLATs) allow generally for the exchange of evidence and information in criminal and related matters. In money laundering cases, they can be extremely useful as a means of obtaining banking and other financial records from our treaty partners. MLATs, which are negotiated by the Department of State in cooperation with the Department of Justice to facilitate cooperation in criminal matters, are in force with the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Austria, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Dominica, Egypt, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, the Kingdom of the Netherlands (including Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, St. Eustatius, and St. Maarten), Nigeria, Panama, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom (including Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, the Isle of Man, Montserrat, and Turks and Caicos), Uruguay, and Venezuela.
