~snip~ People always think about the complexity of the game, but the thing is, if we will bet who's gonna win, it doesn't require advanced intellect to understand the situation.
That's right, because that is all depends on the player's condition if how the player handles the match, so it doesn't need an advanced intellect to distinguish who will be gonna win. It's more like based on luck game. There are more tournaments event organized by World Chess Federation (WCF) and you can check that on worldchess.com. There are certain gambling sites that have a chess betting but as of now, they are not enough popular not just like physical sports events that usually held on a big stadium. When it comes to distinguishing possible winners then selecting on Chess tournament wont really be as hard when choosing up players or teams when it comes to sports events knowing that number of selections isnt really that big and also you can determine already the winner basing of on statistics alone. I havent seen any Chess betting online though- i dont know if i'd just missed that or something. When it comes to e-sports then theres no doubt with this market and i can say its totally different comparing of with Chess. There are lots of competitions out there in Chess games but i do actually understand on why bookies havent consider on giving a line on this one.

Yes, people are usually attracted to graphics nowadays, prefer games that have a lot of effects, and do have a background story to be more appreciative. Yes, I get it that chess is very different from hearthstone, I just saw a huge potential for chess to become popular these past few days, and many people get attracted to it even it's a medieval game. That's the reason why I think chess can fit also on the gambling industry for its popularity in top streaming platforms. Also, I understand that chess wasn't that attractive and has very complex mechanics, normal people who just want to play gambling will not get interest to it. People always think about the complexity of the game, but the thing is, if we will bet who's gonna win, it doesn't require advanced intellect to understand the situation.
The tastes of people change over time, chess was probably at its peak in popularity back in the 70s and 80s but the advent of video games and cable television has made the current generation more graphic on their tastes and that is something in which chess will never be able to compete, in fact chess is for the most part an invisible game, you see two people and a board full of pieces and nothing more, but in truth the players are concentrated on what the other is doing and how to avoid it to put themselves in the best position possible to win the game and while that has its own beauty it pales in comparison to many entertainment avenues we have today.

Decreasing, no I guess because chess game is easy to play and everyone could learn to play. I agree that the live stream will help this game to gather all individuals who are fun in playing chess. There are many of them actually and here in our place. Before the pandemic I can see many of chess players playing in the busy streets others like in the terminal specifically public transport drivers and operators play this game often.
The rules of chess are simple, that is true enough, but the game is incredibly deep and it is really difficult to become good at it, I really think that is probably one of the main things that detracts from its popularity and when we add that even if it is difficult to become good at almost anything but people are still willing to watch it as long as is entertaining it is not really difficult to guess why most people do not find chess interesting as it is not very exciting to see two people sit down for hours just to move a few pieces on a board. And such deep games would take alot of time, energy to understand and process. Would be best suited for people who have lots of time and understand or interested in the game. Am not too surprised that the commenter you quoted his/her post says public transport drivers and operators often play the game. I notice they play similar games, like draft when they don't have much customers or are waiting for their buses/cars to be filled.

Watching chess matches can be boring for those people who are not really into playing chess.
On this generation, most young people will find this game as boring interest is now lesser than those golden years of this game. Of course they will not enjoy it like most of the players that are watching the game because they do not fully understand the game.
Only those who understand the game will continue to enjoy even they are just watching it from behind. Actually chess is a thrilling game specially if they reached the middle game and the end game.
It's thrilling since you can't really anticipate what will happened unless you really understand the game and you have all those ideas inside your mind. Chess is actually included on sport books dude.
Not sure about that, but I've read somewhere about unibet just don't have that interest reading more about it.

There are plenty of eSports games like hearthstone and legends of runeterra which has complex mechanics like chess but look, people are still into it.
the difference is that it's more "hype" thing, fantasy-like games, and because of that audience is far wider. And also in hearthstone there is much more random unlike chess. So we have a big question will be chess so popular in betting even like a hearthstone. it depend on how the game was being market. Advertisement is one good option to gather all sports lover of this game. i know there were many of them and it could be a potential good business. Imagine the grandmaster playing chess, pretty sure it will have a lots of viewers and betting would be ideal in that part plus the live broadcast will help a lot for all the chess players to watch the match. Probably it could even go like PayperView if things will go right in chess in their advertisement.

Chess still need advertisement, its only popular because it was taught on our sports class as one of the famous board games. And it is not an eSports yet, but there's a possibility since it got mainstreamed on streaming platforms. Even me who aren't interested on chess because of complexity but when I saw its potential, I get interested and watch some matches in chess platforms.

Chess is already advertised enough on Twitch, for example. But the talk is that chess will be less popular than football or even computer games (as a category of esport) just because there much more people which like to watch something fast and thrilling and don't consider chess as such game.

Honestly, watching a chess match even if it is an official tournament or not is not as thrilling compared when you are watching other sports or e-sports. And it will not create that much demand if it will be included in sport books.
Watching chess matches can be boring for those people who are not really into playing chess. Of course they will not enjoy it like most of the players that are watching the game because they do not fully understand the game. Actually chess is a thrilling game specially if they reached the middle game and the end game. Chess is actually included on sport books dude. There are now many online tournaments (due to the epidemic) and all of them with very short time controls. Even without fully understanding chess, one can see what emotions such a game evokes. This is no less emotional than football or hockey, which is probably why these tournaments aroused increased interest from spectators and sponsors.

Yup, totally agree with you. I believe chess is really a game of tactics and analysis just like any other esports. However, it lacks the thrill, the fast pace, the graphics, sfx, sound effects etc we are looking for in a certain game. It isn't entertaining to watch for me too. It will not be that popular compared to other games but still it will have its audiences and players. Some gamblers or viewers may not be in the mood for their favorite games, they will have a choice for a more calm game. Its still a choice so I'm still open for the idea of it.

Yes, almost all games have online ways to still keep their businesses, and chess is indeed a popular game anywhere, there are even many online games wand mobile apps relating to it. Those who are good in these game can use to this to profit if they wanted to gamble. Many tournaments will keep popping due to Pandemic and it will only matter on time on how they will use this Pandemic to make them known. But proper Implementation though, will be needed to avoid virus.

Most gambling services play random chance games. None of us knows how luck is determined. But chess is an intelligence-based game, not luck. In a game where every move is recorded, nobody can object to the result. I wish this type of services to increase.

This is one of the sports where there is no cheerleading and chessplayers require very quiet surroundings, but it's also one of the few sports where you can play with someone living across the globe and they've done this correspondence game since the 70's and it's now very popular with the advent of the internet.

Maybe that's one way of thinking, but there are people who are skilled and are much interested in spending time playing Chess. If I'm not wrong, the popularity for Chess among gamblers is low because of the time it takes and the luck factors. With dice you get lucky to win, but here it is pure skills. When played between two players the skilled one wins, this is the reason why Chess isn't getting popularity.
This doesn't matter how chess is popular among gamblers. Important, how chess is popular among wide majority of people. Much more than dice or even poker (about poker i'm not sure) but not too much for e sport. This is the problem. Not so popular as football, baseball or even Heartstone.

I think that one of the things that detracts from the popularity of chess among gamblers is that simply many do not see it as a game in which you could bet, the nature of many of the games in which you can bet includes a very important random factor or at least is not heavily reduced, but in the case of chess this factor has been reduced to the absolute minimum, so many do not consider very exciting the idea of betting on a chess match compared to the way they would do so for a soccer match.

Maybe not, probably the structure of the game as a mind game without too much action is the reason why it isn't a thing for gamblers. But believe it or not, there are some games of chess that are exciting. Betting in chess game is good when the game is Blitz, meaning, a 5-10 minutes game will drive the audience at excitement especially if the players are moving too fast, and their reaction to time pressure is visible. But with casual games in about 1-2hrs, I don't think it would be good for betting. But with 2 players each game, betting in chess really fits as your chance of winning is 50%

It is not because it is a match between 2 players that you have a winning chance of 50 %. The players maybe have a chance of winning of 50 %, not your bets. But, you are right that the Blitz games are very exciting to watch, but are in my eyes, not the best matches to place bets on. Results of this kind of matches are quite unpredictable.

I guess there could be multiple reasons for which Chess among the gamblers would not find it much exciting as compared to soccer, NBA etc as that it is like played with silence and an indoor and no audience as such compared to outdoor sports like soccer. Watching someone play chess is boring as it does not generate any excitement in viewers as compared to other games which we view.
