Yesterday I bought a price reduced meal from the supermarket - £3.75 reduced to £0.19, and I couldn't resist it.It was a ready to cook Fajita chicken strips meal with peppers and a sour cream dressing. I thought this would be great for breakfas. I'm a bit cautious about these prepared meals, so I read the ingredient and the warnings. One of these surprised me, and I'm not sure why it was included. As the thread title says, the warning was "Safety Note - Do not was poultry before cooking". So what has happened to our society that prompts warnings like this? It can't be that tap water is unsafe, as they exhort you to wash utensils after preparation and cooking.  It can't be the danger of spitting whilst stir frying, as they could have said ensure the pan has a lid, Or that the meat should be dried before cooking.

So has anybody got any suggestions about the changes to our society that prompt messages like this?

What happened is that declining educational standards combined with the ready availability of prepared meals has resulted in Western society collectively forgetting how to safely handle poultry. In case they didn't teach you this in home economics class, raw poultry products often carry disease-causing bacteria (salmonella, campylobacter, and many more), and washing it (which has absolutely no benefit, BTW) will send droplets of contaminated water spraying everywhere, spreading those bacteria to other foods and food preparation surfaces. There's nothing more to it than that.

seems kuffy needs google more then most
""Search Results
Washing raw chicken before cooking it can increase your risk of food poisoning from campylobacter bacteria. Splashing water from washing chicken under a tap can spread the bacteria onto hands, work surfaces, clothing and cooking equipment. ... Campylobacter is the most common cause of food poisoning in the UK."

what i would be more concerned with is that kuffy bought most probably out of date produce. (the price discount seems to suggest that its not within date)

and kuffy should have been more concerned with the possible bacterial risk and possible food poisoning related to out of date produce more than what the packaging says

im guessing kuffy did infact get a bad tummy and then checked the packaging and wants to try making drama that the chicken must have been implanted with some bio hazard at manufacturing as the cause of a bad tummy. rather than actually understand the reality of food hygiene

so if anything. the changes to society is that people dont know basic food hygiene and its now become manufacturers responsibility to inform of common sense things because without people being told common sense stuff. the people would blame the manufacturer for not mothering them

..
its like why a nut company making a bag of peanuts has to say 'warning contains nuts' because stupid people would sue the company for any nut allergy reaction if they didnt not stipulate that it contains nuts. even when common sense says so

I raise my own Cornish X chickens every year.  I always wash the chicken meat before cooking.

Ignore the warning, it was probably a typo.  They meant to say "Safety Note - Always wash poultry before cooking".

Chickens are dirty animals, they poop everywhere, sometimes in food, water, and on top of each other.

Sometimes we have to change their water and clean their boxes, every 3 hours.

I accept as true with you because we've been hearing since past that chickens need to be washed before cooking we've to require care of ourselves and look out of our health and wash and clean it well If there's any germ in it it'll get away easily. within the case of chicken regardless of what vegetables we cook we've to scrub them then cook them therein case nobody is going to be ready to change it Will wash and cook to take care of.

What the fuck is this post supposed to mean? Did you just copy and paste random English words into a sentence?

Cooking or freezing stuff is the best way to get rid of bacteria, washing is usually useless and bad.

We are on the internet, we have the power to spread messages like this one and mostly advice that can help us have a better life.
Just post them all around the web and people are going to see them.

Not exactly sure how this is associated with declining educational standards and all of this. Isn't this something that would be passed down from the parents to children, instead of being taught in school? But you explained it well +merit for that.

Makes sense that the company is telling people that they shouldn't wash it. If you're a smart enough person you'll see that, follow it, and then not clean it. That's safety standards from the FDA (I assume).

And this is the reason why, in my home, we wash poultry with white vinegar, then rinse it with tap water (our tap water is safe to drink, no one buys bottled water) and then cut it / prep it and cook it.
The immediate vicinity of the food prep area, gets cleaned with diluted bleach to kills salmonella and others.

...

You're not really supposed to wash it period. Shit is flying everywhere in your house. Unless you're walking in with a hazmat suit while holding this chicken over the tap water -- even then, you still have the issue of all of this stuff flying all over your household.

Just don't clean it. It's pretty simple.
