Need urgent help with my Electrum wallet

Hello

Today i tried logging into my electrum but i kept getting an error message that "i might not have authorization bla bla"

I stupidly uninstalled it and tried to reinstall same version 3.3.4 that i have been using for years.. now I get the same error message when i try to install the same "setup.exe" version on the website.


My problem is that i just sent bitcoins to this wallet and now i dont know how to reach it. It doesnt work with the new version.... i have my password and the long puzzle I just need help getting back into my wallet.

Did you validate the installer using ThomasV's PGP?

Could you give a more detailed error message? Your post doesn't say much about what's wrong.

Don't run versions below 3.3.4

My mnemonic from. V 2.8 still works fine on electrum v4.

Check you got it from electrum.org and went there instead of using a site the electrum 3 version pointed you to.

To restore a wallet with the new version:
Input a name or leave it as is when opened > then click "standard wallet" > "I already have a seed" (2nd option) and put in your seed on the next screen and follow the setup through and you should see your old wallet. Don't run anything if the old wallet suggested you install it and if you use a search engine to find their website, look for the top option that isn't marked as an ad.

I have not validated the installer. Didnt have to do it the first time so not sure what more I have to do.

The error message says in broken english "It was not possible to obtain this unit, searchway or file. You may not have right authorization to reach this file"'


What i worry about now is that when i uninstalled the first time when my 3.3.4 version didnt work. I also removed my wallet which i just noticed.

And as i wrote, i just sent alot of bitcoins to this wallet. Which i cant reach now...

The "Broken English" alone is suspicious enough, are you sure that you're downloading from the official website?
You can use the stand-alone version that's not required to be installed but I suggest you to use the latest version instead.

By the way, the current download links in the website doesn't have 3.3.4 aside from the "previous releases".

happy to know you were able to solve the problem.It would be great if you share with us how exactly did you solve it so others can learn from it and don't make the same mistake.
I suppose you downloaded a corrupt file and didn't install the wallet in first place!

By "The long puzzle", do you mean the 12 words? It's called a "seed" and it's all you need to restore your wallet. You don't need the password when restoring from seed.

Your wallet file is not deleted when you uninstall electrum.

Also, the verification of the signature is not a mandatory step, but highly recommended to make sure you are not using a malicious version from a fake site.
You can find a tutorial on electrum.org.

Additionally, you should have a (non-digital) backup of your mnemonic code (the 12/24 words). You can't always rely on your AppData folder to be intact.

You can protect the mnemonic code with a passphrase. But that's not the password used for accessing the electrum wallet.

Have you check the wallet address and see if the balance is still available?

You can also try to download  new installer and install it in different computer, it could be that your computer has a problem, either virus so the file/s are corrupted. As long as you can check the balance and it's intact, there's nothing to worry as you can certainly recover your funds with your keys.

Let me guess... Your Antivirus/Antimalware was blocking the installer and/or the application from running?

Either that, or simply running as Administrator would probably have solved the issue.
