Ethereum has always been in the top position and it has been 4 years,
there is only 1 rival in my opinion that can overtake Ethereum in second place, yes thats Ripple

If we visit CoinMarketCap and Coingecko or other exchanges, we can see that ETH is in the second position. However, the position of any coin can be exceeded. But it can't be as popular as ETH. Because ETH controls the entire ETH supported token. ETH controls the whole system so its importance is immense. A lot can be imagined from the imagination. it will only possible if there are currency that can give  better offer to their investors than ethereum  its hard to tell now if there are possible crypto that can beat ethereum and be in the top 2 crypto currency. its all depend on the project it self and if many people will adopt that currency a.

I will hold to your " there's always a possibility"! I agree with that, anything can happen, literally anything. I am a gambler, and may e its a professional deformation, but everything can be seen trough odds, for some things to happen higher odds, for some lower... Point is when you gamble a lot, and you do that for years you must encounter with incredible outcomes, where even 0.000001% wins, and 99.9999 loses.
I am for top coina, don't get me wrong, but I just say everything is risk, and sometimes we see some crazy changes, be open for anything and more factors you consider for your long run plans you will be safer.

Not Impossible but very hard to Beat ETH. ETH remaining top listed for many years. ETH is a famous and well-known crypto in the crypto industry. So many traders think about ETH after BTC. If the new coin came to update the technology system and Developed then it's possible. But It can take many years to beat ETH.

Everything can happen but it is not very probable that will see something like that, ethereum is such a good coin that it has been in second place in this market for years and the only reason it can never reach the first place is because the coin that created this market out of nothing is in that place, so it is very unrealistic to think that a coin that appears right now will surpass ethereum, but why do you want that to happen? If the answer is because you want to obtain a lot profits you can obtain profits with other coins and it is not necessary for them to surpass ethereum at all.

Well, lately a lot of enthusiast care more about  new crypto tokens beating etherum in the market, instead of focusing on how the new tokens can build up consistency and survive on the longrun just as etherum has done. No alts can lace the boots of etherum and that is why it is the king of altcoins, and also challenging bitcoin building up altcoins dominance on the market space.

Earlier 2019 I wouldn't think any altcoin can compete with ETH. Today I think trx is going to be a good competition. I see more dApps coming out of trx blockchain than ETH which a good thing.
