I'd say it's already pretty mainstream but the pivot point will be the fall of USD

I think cryptocurrency needs two more stages, recognition and regulation
If these two stages have been achieved in my opinion it only takes about 1 year for large-scale mass adoption

The really important stage is education.

People seem to be assuming that because millions have heard the word 'Bitcoin' they know and understand what it is. There's a yawning chasm between hearing and understanding and that can take several years between those moments. You could spend your whole life seeing Bitcoin everywhere. It won't mean anything until you look a little deeper.  Nothing much will happen without people being educated and educating themselves.

My answer to this question is - Never!

Cryptocurrency has a very grim chance of going mainstream in literal sense! Yes, there will be more countries other than just Japan and Germany will adopt cryptocurrency and legalize it in coming years but it won't become global mainstream.

Unless and until the governments have a toll which will enable them to track the owner of a certain wallet (which is not possible right at this moment), I don't see cryptos going mainstream anytime soon!

You probably see it going mainstream as becoming an official currency of a country or one of the big reserve currencies.

For me bitcoin going mainstream would be the moment when I could go to a grocery store and pay with it instead of doing it with my card or cash. The moment you can do without a card as long as you have a phone with a bitcoin wallet with you is the moment it goes mainstream.

It already has become mainstream, and we can see that on the TV series like Mr. Robot. If you go to the streets and ask to people 'do you know Bitcoin?' most of them will say, i have listen about it or read about it some were, even we can see bitcoin in the news, so, that means it's already mainstream.

I believe not yet, but if the assumption that it has now truly become mainstream, then, shower thought, maybe Bitcoin will not be more than its own niche in the world?

Do you truly believe that we have "made it"?

There are a lot of people already noticed the use of the bitcoin and the possible help for this on the economy but still, there are a lot of things that need to make considerations because of this kind of digital asset.

I think is

Acceptance and Support

Right now only a few countries accept the use of the cryptocurrency because they have misinformation with these coins some of the platforms are using cryptocurrency just to scam other people so they created and reflect a bad image with the crypto so some of them afraid to use it. In my country, they are supporting the use of the crypto but still, they need to regulate so they make their own centralized wallet so many people used this to buy all the things and kinds of stuff you need and also you can buy with crypto like load and paying bills.

I don’t know how you see it, but Bitcoin has reached a level that seems to me that it is mainstream already.
I don’t know what other mainstream you’re talking about, unless you are one of those fanatics that thinks that the government is going to adopt Bitcoin, then I am sorry that it’s not going to happen; the government won’t adopt Bitcoin and it won’t be what everyone in the world will be using.

Fiat is still going to be around, and Bitcoin will be alternative to the fiat. As for me, I only make use of Bitcoin when it’s an international transaction, because it’s easier, cheaper, and faster than when I’m using Banks to send the money.

I see 2020 as an important year in Bitcoin's life as while the number of merchants who accept digital currencies has increased significantly, but they are still few. For digital currencies to become more mainstream, they must first gain widespread acceptance among consumers. And I believe that over the next two years Bitcoin will prevail, and there will be fundamental developments that will take place in the Bitcoin network.

Awareness is ever growing. That doesn't mean it's mainstream.

I will start to think it's mainstream when it's available on all the usual platforms people are familiar with and when people use it either without knowing they're using it, or not remarking on it as anything unusual.

I think it's going to be far beyond 2025 before it reaches that point.
I personally agree with your perspective, but it all comes down to what each person consider 'mainstream' and even the country they live in. In the USA bitcoin is well known, but not widely enough used or owned to meet my definition. In hindsight, I should have included 2030 and maybe even 2040 as poll options, but at this point it is too late since votes have already been cast.

earlier i was thinking that year 2025 is too much but i changed my mind after reading you comment  . your from the usa and you more familiar if what is the condition of cryptos there   . usa is one of the leading country where the use of cryptos are extra ordinary but it comes to your mouth that it isnt enough to call a mainstream   . how much more to other countries that are known to be less involved with cryptos  ? 25 years isnt enough judging by their current  living but 50 years or more for sure    .

Cryptocurreny has already gone mainstream. Many people use it as a store of value or a payment method. There are thousands altcoins on the market. Crypto trading obsession is officially a form of gambling addition. I've heard that one hospital provides treatment for people addicted to day-trading. And there are even more proofs that crypto goes mainstream.

"Signifcantly" is not very high if based on the broader mainstream market. How much/what is the ratio of Bitcoin users compared to the mainstream market?

Plus is Linux OS mainstream? No, many people "of the mainstream" has heard of Linux, but Linux usage is targetted towards a small portion of the whole market.

As long as there are many countries that prohibit Bitcoin from being used as a means of payment, it is impossible for cryptocurrency
to become mainstream. I think it's too early to mention cryptocurrency will go mainstream in 2020, considering that there are still
a few merchants who accept Bitcoin payments. So for cryptocurrency to go mainstream it will take a few more years.

This recent article spells out the case for why 2020 could be the year cryptocurrency goes 'mainstream'. I have included a quote that summarizes her position. However I am more interested to hear from this group what you think and why.

Also interested in hearing what other positive or negative influences going on this year not mentioned that would impact mainstreaming.

Finally, will Bitcoin lead the charge or will other cryptocurrencies provide key contributions toward mainstreaming and why?

Note: You can only vote once, you can't change your vote, and you have only 14 days to make a choice.  Grin

Why 2020 might be the year cryptocurrency goes mainstream
https://fortune.com/2020/08/24/crypto-digital-currency-bitcoin-jpmorgan/
Quote
Cryptocurrency and digital money like Bitcoin are poised to go mainstream in 2020 due to a confluence of factors, writes Catherine Coley.

There are a few factors contributing to this change, and they are important enough that Americans should be paying attention. First, government payments to individuals and businesses alike are weakening the U.S. fiat (physical cash) system. Second, large banking institutions like JPMorgan Chase are condoning and even welcoming digital currencies onto their platforms. And third, more Americans are home, witnessing the discrepancy in the market’s growth and the nation’s unemployment rate.
I believe that we are already In mainstream mate or better say that it is defend If how we are looking about what mainstream is all about\
Because for me once something has been Known for around the world
(of course not all people but at least spread the whole world)is already mainstreaming and need to be respected.
So how come that you asked this when we are already in to?
maybe what you mean is to be Known and accepted by the majority of the people worldwide?is that what you wanna ask?

And about the rules, even if you don't mention it "Poll here can only Vote once and no one can change Vote once it was casted already.

I think it will take a while for crypto payments to become mainstream. Because currently paying via the forms of electronic money incurs a large transaction cost. A typical example is the ethereum network. If cryptocurrencies want to be more popular then countries must have their cryptocurrency regulations. New technology is needed to minimize the number of transaction fees per payment even if the payment is minimal. That requires a stronger, faster, free, scalable blockchain network ...

Slowly But surely right,The slower we are adopting is the safer and confidence added to all Supporter of crypto currency Market.
It has not to be Bitcoin alone because together with this rank 1 coins are altcoins that also need adoption so lets think of the whole and not only the coin.

But Mainstreaming is not that much needed because this is a currency and it will be used even without mainstream thing,
as people now are looking for their option and one of it is online payments that comes for crypto now,While paypal and other online
payments are growing yet Crypto is also gaining popularity and we can find that about the search made this past month from Google site.

I was amazed at how people being optimistic that we are soon to go to the mainstream which is actually a long way to go.
The reality is that we are far from it. Not all have appreciated crypto, nor most of us are using it now and probably the same in the coming years. The current sentiment is that people are still not knowing about crypto and how it becomes a vital tool in the future, yet they ignore rather than to keep fiat instead.

Yes, I was optimistic as well and I was voted having it next year but it can't deny that it's hard to achieve and maybe I was wrong.

First of all I consider "mainstream" to mean widely adopted and used by most people and using cryptocurrencies to be considered a standard procedure.

I've voted never for many reasons. The main ones are these:

- You are talking about cryptocurrencies in general, putting Bitcoin in the same basket with XRP,XLM,LINK,Verge,Doge,BCH,BSV,ETC,XVG,Dash,DGB and 10 thousand more useless coins.
- We talk about Bitcoin being mainstream in 2017 but it didn't stay there. There is difference between being used and being a hype.
- Governments are testing CBDC's. They will be forced-mainstream.
- Cryptocurrencies (the 10,000 altcoins) are there to stop Bitcoin from staying mainstream.

The goal of the game is to create a complete chain of ten blocks by matching Nonce and Target cards while mining “rewards”
According to game creator Scott Sibley, SHAmory is intended to raise awareness about blockchain tech

SHAmory — an amalgamation of “SHA” from SHA-256, a cryptographic algorithm used in bitcoin mining — and “mory” from the word memory — is a Bitcoin card game that teaches players the basics of mining.

Sibley came up with the card game about a year ago after he realized he wanted to create something that would make it easier for people to understand the technology's fundamentals. Sibley works for an edtech firm in San Diego and comes from a family of teachers — both qualities that pushed him to create the game. Sibley started shipping orders in early July. When we spoke, he had sold over 100 copies of the game.

There is even hope 'Nonce' might appear in a future SAT test so day...

Maybe I will buy a copy to show my support for the concept plus I can use BTC (of course) to buy it if I want  Cool
