If we could somehow manage to actually pull of a big change towards digital working that would be the real big winner in the world. I have been a freelancer for a while now and I have worked in the regular office works for over 4 years as well and I can compare them and I can tell you that both are them are wildly different. If I had the chance to make all the works that could be done in remote I would turn them into it.
For example my friend found a job as a call center operator, all she had to do was go get a laptop and some headset and one week training and she is basically ready to go at home from now on, normally before pandemic this was all done at work, why? There is literally zero reason why this job should be at office if it could be done at home, so when pandemic is over and everything is back to normal, this job should stay at home if you ask me.
Technology does simplify things and create efficiency for human life, but if the technology is applied in the manufacturing industry sector, this will create a massive layoff wave. The service sector does not absorb too much labor and does not need heavy machinery for its activities so that it is easy to do anywhere. Also in my country and in developing and poor countries, their education level will not be sufficient to get a job if there is competition from robots.
With regards to work from home, initially it requires adjustment and requires high commitment from workers because working at home, especially for women who already have children, increases productivity and professionalism because it is hampered by having to take care of household needs.
