I tried to access bitcoin.talk.org from work today and got the following message:

Who'da thought some alt coin flame wars would get Trend Micro to ban us from work places?

Dude, don't act stupid, you are usually smarter than that...

It's the distribution of miner softwares, softwares to conceal miners, etc. that gives it the reputation of malware distribution, not the flame wars.

Thanks for your suggestions.

A) They've locked down the web using trend micro and some other content screener. I can't download the new tor/firefox app at work, but I might be able to install it via flashdrive since its an exe.

B) Tried proxies but (not sure why) they don't work.

What would be really good is if I can get Trend Micro to stop being such fussy pricks about this (apologies to Goat).

Have you considered to go and work for a sane company instead ?

Love to, but it's actually a government I work for, and I live on an island so it's a hassle to  go and work for another.

To get back on topic, how could bitcointalk.org be a source of malware? Cosbycoins?

These rating sites often consider the forum to be a "malware distributor" because there are topics about "invisible miners", which could be seen as a type of malware. (Even though you have to click links to get this software.)

I'm not going to ban these topics, so there's nothing that can be done.

Bring your own laptop.
Unless that's illegal too ?

No, i won't go to prison for bringing my laptop to work, but i get can't get 3g and can't connect to the local network. No desk space for another computer either.

So far I think bring a copy of a tor firefox exe to work is my best option.

I'm still not sure why they think the forums are a source of malware though.

i thought it was the distribution of cosby-related text and images.

actually maybe the surge of freddie-related posts has affected the rating.

psy told you why. Theymos confirmed a few posts below.
They both gave you the same reason for the malware distribution reputation. What's your doubt?
If the only way for you to believe an answer about this is to get it from Trend Micro themselves you should probably ask them.

I didn't see Theymos' post. Psy's post wasn't helpful.

LOL, so, giving you an answer after asking you if you were serious wasn't helpful? Yeah, I know, he could've just answered it without the remark, but he still gave you an answer, and a correct one.

EDIT: only now I read carefully the way you asked the question and you say his post wasn't helpful?
Maybe you should learn to ask questions seriously if you want serious answers. Wink

Why are you bothering to pretend you are not psy?

ETA: psy/undergod/Bitcoin ShitList sent me a PM suggesting "Bitcoin ShitList" is not "psy" necessarily, and suggested he has MPD. Sorry for the confusion my post may have caused.
