The title itself says it all. I consider this to post in meta section but I changed my mind because of its content related for the newbie or new comers.

What is a forum?

According to google dictionary that it is a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. This is why I think the forum name bitcointalk was derived to the majority of the discussions or talk about bitcoin and other related issues. And the domain which is .org means an organization. I think this is how Satoshi or the admin of the forum derived the name bitcointalk forum and its site to bitcointalk.org.

My overview about the forum

If we will going to expound what google dictionary says that a forum is a medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. Bitcointalk.org is the medium for the ideas and views to be exchaged. All are free to join and express themselves in regards to a certain issue wherein mostly about bitcoin and other digital currency related topic and some trending thread about the bitcoin history including the unknown identity of Satoshi Nakamoto the said creator of bitcoin. However, the forum also offer different activities like propagating project development, enable a user to buy and sell products, offer service, gambling, do charitable program and even discuss political and off topic issues are included but all are organized separated in different sections moderated by staff of the forum. A user could also utilize the forum involving his skills, knowledge and by promoting own business. Existing users of bitcointalk forum are fortunate compared to those people who were involved in cryptocurrency but still not inform about this forum for them to learn more about bitcoin and cryptocurrency.


Successful users Stories

Majority of the users share ideals, discuss and improve that resulted to success. The proof are those users who were successful here in this forum venturing bitcoin or any related activities to cryptocurrency. There stories were already told and it is up for the newbie or new comers to believe. I could not tell you one by one of their stories but you can use the search button for it.


How other users end up in this forum?

Despite of the success being told some users don't care how to promulgate the forum to its best utilization rather some of the users focus on their business like bounty hunting resulting to shitposting doing bounty reports of social media links in their promotional activities of projects promoted, scamming and plagiarism. These were became major problem of the forum to which result to the introduction of rank and merit system implemented by theymos.


The introduction of rank and merit system

The introduction of rank and merit system became a trending issue especially to lower ranks where they need to earn a certain number of merits to rank up. (Refer to rank and merit system) During the implementation of the merit and rank system the users with a member to legendary rank were given an airdrop merits for them to remain in their rank and also to give them the privilege to reward merits to other users who they think that posts are deserving to be rewarded with merits. The standard of giving the merits will be a discretion to the user who will give the merits. There is no really specific standard but as long as it contribute to the forum or helpful to the user itself.


The result of the implentation of rank and merit system

The result of the implemented system was become effective and successful in minimizing the shitposting activities and hopefully to completely eradicate it in the near future. More and more users now are contributing helpful ideas and shared it here in the forum. This is in line how the admin wanted the forum to be. Cheers! The campaign against shitposting, scam, plagiarism were improve channeling every users exerting efforts to identify and report them. Over all impression with the implementation of rank and merit system was effective and successful.


Can a newbie rank up to legendary with the implementation of rank and merit system?

Definitely, users like @CryptopreneurBrainboss, @DdmrDdmr, @cabalism13 and more were able to rank up from newbie to legendary after getting merits of over than 1,000 merit. The required minimum merits which1,000 merit and 776-1030 activity is necessary to rank up into legendary rank. How to earn merits?

This is always discuss here in the forum and you can use the search button to look for topics on how to earn merits. However, contributing in the forum by actively participating and learning in the discussions can earn user some merits. Sharing helpful ideas, awareness and even motivational posts will do. Tips. You can sneak out merited posts and observe and follow their ways and strategy on how they earn few or lots of merits. Just be true to yourself for most users here are considerate when it comes to English grammar. Most users are coming from different country around the world with different language. Hence, the forum is not only intend for native English users but to all who are interested to join and learn about cryptocurrency.


What is the importance of the forum to the users?

The forum was dedicated for cryptocurrency discussion and other related topics. But the users here are not limited to do selling goods, products and offer their services that optionally use or integrate bitcoin or cryptocurrency payments. Others are doing some sort of investment in bitcoin and cryptocurrency due to constant rise of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency that provide profits to users. Risk is a factor in bitcoin and cryptocurrency investment because of its nature which is market volatility. (Rise and fall of bitcoin and cryptocurrency market)

My own point of view of cryptocurrency is that it will be part of the option as a digital currency payments with anonymity features and decentralized system without the interference of government to help ease the transaction process online. A better option than using banks services.

Scam and phishing were considered as major threats for cryptocurrency and it is always shared here to discuss of their ways and methodologies. What is the importance of the forum to the users?
If you are just here by accident and you do not know what business you will going to do here then see this opinion on what is the importance of the forum for the users. The forum was design for selling goods, products and services that even integrating bitcoin or cryptocurrency as an option for payment. Cryptocurrency is a technology wherein believe to be an option for payment. Others with their opinion in bitcoin and cryptocurrency is said to be some sort like investment due to constant rise of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency in the market price of bitcoin that provide profits to users. Of course risk is there because the nature of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency is its market price volatility. (Rise and fall of bitcoin and cryptocurrency market)

In my own point of view with cryptocurrency is that it will be part of the option as a digital currency with anonymity features and decentralized system without government interference to help ease the transaction process online. A better option than using banks services.

This forum was mainly designed to be a community for bitcoin users as a way they can easily know more about bitcoin, and to solve any problem encountered during the use. Then, others follows.

Bitcointalk.org is a very extraordinary forum, unique. Here we are free to interact, communicate and so on as long as we still follow the forum rules. Many are angry, many are happy. The emotions in this forum not only make us smile alone but also make us feel what makes other people feel sad.

Then what exactly is Bitcointalk.org?
From my point of view, Bitcointalk.org has provided everything for everyone with equal opportunity. There are different goals of the members here. But one thing is for sure, Bitcointalk.org is where we work, joke, or even have a career.

Why do I say that Bitcointalk is a career place? This is what I feel, I am only a member with minimal knowledge of technical crypto development. But there is another side that I can achieve from Bitcointalk.

A career journey that can be felt by all members, if you use this forum not only to take part in airdrops and bounties without any consideration about the project and just trapped by scam project promotion to waste your time. Here some career that can achieved by community

1. Become a Community Manager (Freelance, Contract, Full-Time)
One of the careers that you can get in this forum is as a Community Manager (I will call it CM). Those of you who have communication skills can become a CM. There are hundreds of legit projects that you can find from the Announcement Board page or from Services/Services announcement board. From there you can do a project research, look for opportunities, and apply as a CM. The payment also varies, depending on how much you respect yourself.

2. Become a Bounty Manager / Campaign Manager (BM / CM)
A Bounty Manager / Campaign Manager (hereinafter I will call BM), is also one of the jobs that you can make a promising career for you. Just look at how Hhampuz, Murat, Coolcryptovator, DarkStar_ and other top BM are working form campaign a project. Not just one project, they can hold up to 5 projects at once. Isn't this very interesting to be an example that a career as BM is very exciting. Recently I handle some campaign as BM, this is very good experience to be part of the community, you have a same opportunity, just remember follow the rules of the forum, learning, discuss, and sharing. Impossible is nothing to be one of the top member with good reputation to build your "Brand".

3. Become a money lender
Lending money is also like going through a career, you get income from the loans you provide. Even if there are those who offer interest-free, the community still appreciates it by giving something extra. If you are serious about this, you can become a successful lender. For example, OmegaStarScream, DarkStar_, DireWolfM14 and other who doing this services for a long time with lot of customers.

4. Become a professional designer (graphic / website)
Threads, signature campaigns, promotions all require designs to attract members' interest in Bitcointalk. If you don't get the opportunity at freelance website services, try to be more serious about improving your design skills. Thus you can be trusted to be the permanent designer of a project. Or use the service by top BM.

5. Translator or content creator
Lot of project need translator to bring their project going global. You can take this place too. Also you can be a professional content writer to help a project creating content marketing or anything related. This is very good opportunity, you can work from home everyday. And working as you want

6. Developer
Are you website developer, application developer? You can be a professional and reputable developer here.

There are many careers opportunities that can be achieved by all members in this forum.

I was happy that before my post was being made there were already users trying to promote the welfare of the forum. This is a good sign that the forum is leading into a healthy forum for cryptocurrency discussions. We, the users will be happy to share thoughts about the forum to guide the newbie and new comers to raise awareness of the forum issues and major problems.

Nevertheless, the content of that post remains unknown really to almost everybody, since it was a proposal, placed on Meta, discussed to some extent, but that remains an unconcluded. The proposal is now two years old, but has never seen the light … Not that it shouldn’t, since it contains some important highlights to point out, but probably needs some more polishing and a will to set it into motion.

This is just my own version of just like a review for the forum. My own idea on how to get the newbie to be inform about the forum. There are only short description had written every topic but had some time making it. I am not wishing too to get this post to be pinned above LOL. This was being made poorly and I accept that since English is not my native language.

It is never too late to change all users habit that may be newbie or not to get involve in the change for a better forum. I think it just need more awarenesss and motivations for everyone to get it done. It may not be effective now but through constant sharing of experiences that will be enough for them to learn and avoid doing it. I had already made huge posts to the forum and contributed the pile of shitposts especially in the major boards or section of the forum.

However, I do believe that to one day this will be change in the future. The local boards will be having a great role in the change of the forum. Local boards could trigger to minimize or eradicate shitposting.  Local boards will be the easiest way to access cryptocurrency discussions. The major boards for cryptocurrency discussions will be probably move to every local boards where we are free to use English language or our own native language.

You did a great job by not minding what other users have written before, although the forum consists of threads upon threads of same information but different imparting views to newbies, so long as the previous information by old author disappears from the first two pages, i think its advisable for new active user to write her own version of things.

Depending on the forum as a sort of professional career is not something anyone should do. The forum could close down, as could some of the activity it bears, or even the accounts themselves could get banned at any point in time for wrongdoings.

Now those with certain skills may develop some sort of career around the forum’s derivate areas. Take for example those with programming skills that have participated in crypto projects, thanks to the forum being a gateway to them. On the other hand, bounties and signature campaigns should be in any case considered temporary perks, but not longstanding stepping stones to one’s professional welfare.

That is also what I did before when I can't even receive 1 merit at all, I visited some good profile with good merits and I checked their merits history and read some of their posts, by doing it, I get some ideas on how can I create good content. Sharing your personal experiences, skills, and knowledge would be a goo possible way for you to earn merits and that is what I am doing right now. Even though I am not that really good poster, I can still say that I am receiving merits from good reputable members of this forum that makes me so proud of myself.

I just change the title of the topic since the content will fit to as my review of bitcointalk forum. My impression for the forum is very good. Some users manage to earn because of this forum especially in this times of pandemic where some users are financially unstable for having no work at the moment and only rely on small rewards from signature campaign that pays btc.

I agree with you that ranks are just cosmetics and it is not a need unless one like to earn by joining signature bounty. The higher the rank users has the higher pays the user will get and that is the reason why other users wanting to rank up. As I have metion earlier that other users had rely to it due to pandemic with no stable means of income.

Very well said. So for those newbie, lying on the middle or those members who are having a slow progress on ranking up; don't worry too much. It is not a total manifestation of your capabilities in life. At the end of the day, what matters the most is not about ranks or campaigns you joined in but the knowledge you acquired and how you put it into application. So don't get intimidated and feel hopeless, we are all doing fine

Nope, such cases were not solely a product of luck  IMHO, it is sort of 30% luck and 70% dedication. Their lucky in a sense that they became legendaries before the merit system introduced, they no longer need to chase merit points since they already meet highest rank possible (at least for now). However, we should keep in mind that they stayed here way back time when this forum is not yet as popular as today — when there are no to less earning opportunities  For me that means a lot. Imagine the time and dedication they poured here thus they absolutely deserve where they are right now .

It may sound like that but it is not. Merit system is created because of people who do spamming this forum and abusing the system. Many people created multiple accounts to cheat on campaigns and other stuff so in order to stop it theymos think of a system which reduces the spam made in this forum and it did work and reduce spam plus cheating on campaign also change.

I understand that the forum does not bring any profit by itself. I referred to different 'careers' or jobs that certain members do through the forum.
As far as I have seen, people do various promotions, signature and social media campaigns, graphic services, writing articles ... and for these jobs they get paid in cryptocurrencies. That's pretty cool, and I don't think I've come across any similar forum like this one.

There's a lot of happenings here in this forum, crypto projects are important once you have skills that they are looking for.

Now that you are knowledgeable about what this forum can do to a user, you should explore more and find the things that is suitable for your own growth in this forum.

You can also read a lot of stories towards other user so that you can have some idea and get inspired to it.

I understand why merit system was introduced. What I'm saying is, spam is still a big problem on the forum. And from some high-ranking members as well.
Now, I don't know if these are accounts that changed owners (were sold or whatever) or are someone’s alt accounts created before the merit system was introduced.

It is very sad that you think so. As a beginner, you draw conclusions that are not entirely objective. There is a very active struggle on the forum, if it is appropriate to say so here, with spam. You can always submit a report to the moderator if you see that the post contains empty information. I can say the same about alternative accounts. If they violate the rules of the forum, they are marked by members of the DT.

I would also like to answer your statement about legendary accounts. These are the people who came to the forum to really push Bitcoin. Look at the dates of their registrations. Those who came in 2011-2016 were not interested in bounty companies. And it's ridiculous to blame them for the fact that they got the ranks just like that.

There is a good answer to this. And where have you been? And what prevented you from coming to the forum at that time.
