The Plagiarist, Ban Appeal and the Forum

Plagiarism is consider as felony in other areas or countries and punishable by law with fines and imprisonment. Here in bitcointalk forum the highest punishment that could be given to a certain user is permanent ban to the forum.


The Plagiarist

It is observe here that most of the users appealing to lift the ban are the plagiarist. These user should know at the very beginning after they registered their accounts in the forum of their responsibility as a member of bitcointalk forum. Learning the forum rules and regulations is not a mandate by the admin rather it is the responsbility of the member of bitcointalk forum that must be adhere and follow. Copy and paste post is completely non-sense and the higest form of mockery not only to the forum but to all the members of the bitcointalk forum.


Ban Appeal

Plagiarism is one of the major problem to the bitcointalk forum and to its users so permban is righteous to be given as punishment to the users who commit the violation. And it should be clear that ban appeals to lift the permban should never be granted. Commiting the violation is not only against the forum and the admin but it is against to all registered users in the forum (plagiarist vs. the people of the bitcointalk forum). The only way that a plagiarist to be forgiven and to lift the permban is to ask all the users of bitcointalk forum for forgiveness one by one 😂. I will cut my hair off if the user will not get his ban lifted after being forgiven to all users.


The forum

As a user it is our responsibility to take care of the welfare of the bitcointak forum because taking care of it is also like taking care of all the users here in the forum. The bitcointalk forum is a medium for exchanging ideas to certain issues or any related topics for cryptocurrency. A good practice as user to promote the welfare of the forum is to promote awareness, active participation in discussions, share ideas and learn from others base on their experience or thoughts being shared. In this manner truly and easy way of learning in the bitcointalk forum would be more fun and easy.

My few cents of thoughts on plagiarism and ban appeal. Hope that users will reflect to it especially the newbie and newcomers.

My intention is only to spread awareness and motivational posts. I directed and move this topic in this section because I am after the welfare of the newbies and the newcomers.

Motivations and spreading awareness is one way to educate the users in this forum. I can't blame users to see this post as merit grabbing post because we are rational and we have different perception. It is alright not to receive merits but still will continue  to do things which I do believe is right. I think this will do regardless of making a merit grabbing posts or not.

Call me a skeptic, but in which countries can you go to prison for plagiarism?  I'm sure in less-developed countries authorities don't give a shit about it and in developed countries it doesn't rise to the level of a felony.  I could be wrong, but I'd really like you to support that statement with some evidence.

Plagiarism is one of the punishable crime in this forum. Many users have been banned because of plagiarism and yet, there are always user who commit this violation over and over again. But why?

It is because they want to make their reply more smarter than other users or they just want to fill up their weekly signature post by copying someone`s post. It is the result of being lazy in creating own good post and depending upon the article they have been read.


Actually, we can avoid being plagiarist by just citing the link or reference of the quotes or even article we have post. In fact, it may add some credibility regarding to the point that we want to emphasis. As long as we have our own opinion, using someone reference and citing the author will not make us plagiarist anymore.

It all depend on your perception and I can't change on what you are thinking then. You are free to express your opinion and there is no wrong about it.

99% of this post is fluff.  If you need to direct any message at newbies, it's "read the rules before posting anything".

That may defeat the purpose of starting a thread wherein the post should be address to users directly who will going to read it. Just call this post as low quality of type of post and does not reach your standards that would be acceptable.

Plagiarism, in my opinion, is the most popular violation of the forum, which is actively discussed literally every day. I agree with The Pharmacist that it is not worth telling the obvious things that everyone present has long known.

Here you are misleading those who were previously blocked. On your advice, many will now think that you just need to ask for forgiveness, and all problems will go away.
Perhaps these are difficulties with translation, but that's what I understood.

It is impossible to ask forgiveness to all registered user here in the forum. Others were not active and forgetting their password so this is why I am telling the violators to do a favor that cannot be done. It is likely impossible to be forgiven by all registered users and this is what I am implying to. I get it wrong too because I did not expound this part well and it resulted to confusions.

Anyway, The Pharmacist is right this thread likely not belong here and this should be move to Beginners and Help

We should always remember that one of the purposes of this forum is to have a discussion about cryptocurrency and blockchain, let's share the things we know about the crypto world and let the others benefit from it but it doesn't mean that you need to plagiarize just to create content or maybe they think that they will receive merits because of the good content that was stolen from other people's ideas. Well, in fact, it won't help you to be a good bitcoin user and a good member of this forum because you will violate the rules of the forum and you may get banned from doing it.

Just be honest on yourself, if you don't know many things about the crypto world then it is free for you to use the internet and acquire knowledge. Just search for the things you want to know, we all have good resources to gain knowledge, it is up to us if we will use it for ourselves.

I am sure this action is still being done by many users of this forum, especially for newbies who do not read the regulations of this forum, plagiarism is an illegal act and prohibits it in all fields, it could be including copyright, but in this forum it prohibits it in games and does not exist. Forgiveness for those who do it, therefore be wise in using this forum to give your best contribution to get the reward I am sure information about cryptocurrency is not only in this forum but throughout the internet as long as we are able to read it will know about it, and who most importantly do not plagiarize just to get merit.

Even though beginners have read the rules in this forum, some beginners still practice plagiarism in various ways and methods so that their plagiarism is not detected. Brands started creating copied and pasted threads from other blogs without giving their own opinion. this has been done a lot.

Their goal is to get some merit from other members, even though the high ranking members who have the advantage of merit will know their quality even if they plagiarize. It is very difficult to get merit if it doesn't contribute well and is truly original.

Plagiarism is a copyright crime and is prohibited in this forum or any other forum. Plagiarism of actions of a lazy person who doesn't want to try. Although plagiarism in this forum does not make the perpetrator go to jail, the rules regarding plagiarism will get a punishment that is commensurate with banning accounts that commit plagiarism.

A while back, I tried to roughly pinpoint when the rule on plagiarism was included in the unnoficial (quasi-oficial) forum’s ruleset. It turns out that it’s been around since around mid 2016 (see details in quote below). This does not discard that it was dealt with in some other manner before then, but that’s perhaps roughly the moment when it was present enough to summon the creation of the expedite rule number 33 …:

If I recall correctly, my curiosity was aroused when I checked the forum rules to see when rule 33 had been written:

Of course, these rules are basically a privately applied based guideline, and obviously can apply to whatever timeframe the Forum wishes, with disregard to the fact that the rule infringement may have been committed prior to the rule being stated.

The fact that the rule on plagiarism (for example) seems not to have been introduced until somewhere between May and November 2016 could be controversial with regards people being banned for plagiarism committed before that period. On the other hand, we could understand that all rules are fully retroactive and that’s it. I personally would prefer a 3 year timeframe or so, but that’s all it is, a personal preference.

The simplest way to teach this to newbies instead of complicating everything about plagiarism:

#  Never copy anybody's content, you have got a 'quote' button for it, just quote it if you want to use their content.

#  If your post contains content that can be found outside this forum like a comment that you take from a website by an important personality but you don't quote them, then you may get banned.

#  If you do not want to quote anybody's content, simply share the link of their post/thread and name them if you want to use their comments as an example in your post.

#  Crediting the person whose comments/quotes/posts/threads you are using, can save you from getting mudded as a plagiarist.

One of the couple of things I've learnt of this forum is that, the ban appeal often comes up from people whose against are already within the top ranks and can't just let it go.
Many other newbie accounts commit these crimes against the forum, not because they don't know plagiarism (copy and paste is wrong) but because, they don't expect the forum to look into it seriously and so, they don't hope to get caught.
What they don't realize is that, every post in thus forum is subject to verification and seriously someone is keeping an eye, ready to blow the whistle. For me, there only and significant crime is, failing to read the forum rules. It renders them vulnerable to violating even one and here, you often pay the price.

I wanted to give you some Merits, but I think the topic is intended to a merit-grabbing attempt.
Many members are banned either because they have not read the forum rules or do not know exactly how to quote.
Even if the ban is deserved, the reason for the ban varies from one member to another, and therefore it is unfair to inflict the same punishment on everyone.
A lot of the lazy members are the ones who deserve to be banned.
