Mercurial, Satanic Slob of Laziness and Chronic Beggar of Theymos for sMerits.  Should that ever become a reality, I don't see how there would be any other contenders up until the time of my death--which is no doubt swiftly approaching--whereupon the category should be retired and my ketchup and whatever-encrusted jersey hung from the rafters.

All of which is to say that it's LoyceV or some other extremely useful member of the community who should get the honors of "Hero of Good".

According to Geoffrey Chaucer Novel. "The Knight's Tale". People see things in a different way from one mindset. The two knights sees Emelye from different ways but in one mindset. What am I trying to portray here is that, I didn't see you as a beggar but a trying to develop the forum in your own way. The smerits you are asking from  Theymos is not for yourself but for other participants to expand the forum participation. From the time been, I see different nature in you.
In those days, Kings (Heroes) were picked, appointed, selected or voted base on bravity. I believed even the forum last rank (Legendary) is given base on braveness for those who did not give up upon all the attacks, criticism, etc.
The positions that have been created are good and you are also suit to occupy a position and not to create another one for you. Therefore, accept the outcome of the election. You are very much useful in the forum and I rebuke the debunk statement above.

I wish all the candidates Good luck

Just a quick question:

Last round, we had quite a few rewards for some random members participating in the voting process:

It will be a lottery of free bets from sportsbet and chips from ChipMixer divided into two baskets! Each basket will have the same number of prizes, and each winner will receive a 2 mBTC chip and a 0.5 mBTC free bet, (5 winners from the first basket and 5 from the second). For Chips, the winners will be contacted by a ChipMixer representative, while you will have to PM me your Sportsbet username before you can award your free bet.
I don't read anything about that in our current round here, so just a question if it might get added (probably as more sponsors will come in) for our current round.
In my opinion, it would spread out rewards more evenly because for now it looks like "winner takes it all" and many winners will be similar like last round.
Maybe another idea are some random rewards (generated via Bitcoin block number last year) for runner-ups.
Not sure about that but the random rewards for participants taking part in voting last year have been a nice idea in my opinion.  Smiley

I also have a user that I nominate for Discovery of the Year: citb0in

He registered in july of this year and he has earned 300 merits. His main interest so far is bitcoin mining and he has already organized some solo mining attempts in his thread citb0in Solo-Mining Group - BLOCK SOLVERS (english). He is also very active on the development & technical discussion board trying to understand how bitcoin works. It is certainly a good user of the forum and actively uses it to increase its knowledge of bitcoin. From my point of view he is an enrichment for the forum. That's why I'm nominating him this year.

I voted for him here.  Smiley

In fact, there will be more random prizes this year as the cold wallets raffle won't stop while this event continues (the problem is that all the slots in the current raffle are not filled yet). In addition, those who have already voted can take two slots (and the link to the raffle is fixed in the OP).

I think you were a little inattentive, because if we compare with last year, we had only 11 main winners, and now we will have 30 prizes (1, 2, 3 places in each of the categories). In addition, the winners in the cold wallet raffle are also determined using the blockchain.

It's a raffle that requires address information from the winner, which for me is a reason not to join. From what I've seen, many users share this concern.

Good point, I didn't follow the event last year very closely as I have been a bit more busy last year, so I didn't remember all the details but nice to know prices are distributed to more members for our new round, which is a very positiv adjustment in my opinion.

Exactly, receiving such a physical product and still maintaining privacy is a big issue, so maybe we will see some free bets on Betnomi's site as icopress has suggested that there will be more random prizes this year.

What about the winners from the "negative" category like Fail of the Year or Antihero? they will be nominated because of something bad they did, can they get rewards for something that most users have condemned as wrong?

Antihero seem fine. We are having a forum user but Fail of the Year, Event of the Year are two categories not for forum users. It's more likely a global event related to bitcoin or even not related to bitcoin. How would we decide who to get the prize for the two categories.

Not to mention again as I always like to discuss, Miss Bitcointalk is a category we don't even know who is what (I even got some nomination, same for yahoo too lol) and SpamBuster is a category where we have no numbers (I received a PM from Cyrus about it by the way, he said he will see what he can do). In fact even numbers are not enough. Someone can report 100 posts but moderator who is handling it may find he is a poor reporter on the other hand, someone reported 10 reports but he will be found a quality reporter. It's complete something to be evaluated by the people who handle reports not by the regular forum members.

So what if instead of focusing on users who reported the most posts, focus on users who open topics to talk about these cases of plagiarism and spam. Could this be wrong reasoning?

According to Wikipedia, an antihero is not necessarily the 'opposite of a hero'. There is no 100% definitive definition either, though, but we did get a small definition in the OP!

In my opinion, for such a contest (and because there is a price to win), think about 'main character in a story who may lack conventional heroic qualities and attributes'; I'll be looking for a user who is doing valuable contributions to the forum and / or Bitcoin in general, while lacking some 'conventional heroic attributes'. In this forum's context that could be maybe having a bad (hard to understand) writing style, bad English skills, not being very active or also being a shitcoin supporter. Such a user could still provide great value to the forum and not qualify for other categories.

No, the merit system is controlled by the community, it is easier to farm merits, but a user must have been in the forum for at least 2-4 months to farm activity. a newbie with zero knowledge of the forum can register today, make topic and earn 50 merits with his first post, go on and copy-paste votes. (Another disadvantage of using merit point)
There are many times more users with high Activity and no earned Merit, than Newbies who earned 50 Merit on their first post. It's a rare thing. I have enough sMerit to create 48 96 Newbies, give them 50 Merit each, and vote for myself in the "Fail of the Year" category. And if I do that, it'll be blatantly obvious. So I don't think this is likely to be abused in this way.
Yes.. LoyceV is equally right in what he/she just said above, and thats why for me,  I think for a user to be eligible to vote, he/she must have been a registered member of the forum for at least 90days and earned a minimum of 50 merits. As this is an important stuff which requires people who are serious about the forum, because of what benefits will it be allowing an ordinary Newbie to vote, who barely have little or hasn't known people that much on these forum, as it always take time for a serious minded beginner to be familiar with forum names.

So since "Merits" can be easily farmed, "Activity" on the other hand, is one stuff that can't be easily farmed, which is what plays a big difference

If FTX wins fail of the year, the money should be donated to legitimate victims or something, as I know three users from my local thread who were affected by the FXT drama, and if Bitcointalk show wins fail of the year, the money should be sent to theymos wallet Grin I knew the YouTube thing would fail, just like the Bitcointalk discord pizza community did.

Nothing would change much unless icopress limits this category to the top three reporters only (names listed) so that anyone could simply vote from there because as long as the top reporters information is limited to only a few people, people will continue to vote random people with low or no spam bursting history.

We shouldn't vote in the spambusting category in the first place because we already have the top spambusters.

LoyceV is a MAN and a dad with with two kids ( a boy and a girl) just like some of us, at least that's what i know so you should start addressing him as HE.  Grin

well you made a good point but why did you crop me out of your reply?

That would be unfair to lovesmayfamilies, the forum's only known mom with many children; imagine you, yahoo62278, and Bitcoingirl.club winning this category without having a boobs. I'll definitely vote for it as 'fail of the year' next year. Grin

Dear all,
I posted my nomination here:

Here are my nominees.
<…>

As I said, the post was not definitive, as I have to clear my mind on a few categories.
I just wanted to post it because I didn’t want to forget about it.

I got two merits:

  • @mendace, who wasn’t aware of the “merit rule”. I informed him on the Italian discussion thread, he probably will be penalised for that, but I have a little concern for this (it was his fault, after all)
  • I got a merit from @icopress, who isn’t mentioned in this post. What happen if I decide to nominate him? He gave a merit before being nominated… so we cannot imply anything, but what happens at the end of the day? If I nominate him, the vote will be counted or not?

Excuse me, I reacted instinctively to Filippone's appointment not knowing about the merit rule.  If there is a penalty I will have to accept it.

So what if instead of focusing on users who reported the most posts, focus on users who open topics to talk about these cases of plagiarism and spam. Could this be wrong reasoning?
Plagiarism and spam both can be easily solved by just reporting it to the moderators. So I still think the spam buster category mostly for to the mods to evaluate.

If FTX wins fail of the year, the money should be donated to legitimate victims or something, as I know three users from my local thread who were affected by the FXT drama,
Compering to the amount of money lost by the people from FTX the prize is not even 0.00000001% LOL

and if Bitcointalk show wins fail of the year, the money should be sent to theymos wallet Grin I knew the YouTube thing would fail, just like the Bitcointalk discord pizza community did.
Was it theymos or Cyrus 😉
But in any of the case, the prize is not useful for them at all.

If it helps me get elected as Miss Bitcointalk, I could promise a picture of my (man)boobs if I win Cheesy
If we were in a bull run then would you go with the green dildo 😂?

There's some real unsung heroes in the reporting scene as an example. Not every user is vocal about how much they report, and while they might do this for a reason; it's a shame they don't get a little bit of recognition for the work they put in.

Same as some of the moderators; mprep is well thought of, and rightly so. However, there's a few in the background that just chug along. As one example, Mr Big does a ton of work, as I see how much they edit, and merge replies. That's just an example of what I see. There's others really working hard to make this place a better place, and it's a shame that they also aren't getting to recognition which I believe they deserve, but at the end of the day they might not want it.

Also, merit sources. There's a ton of those that work really hard on distributing to users that they think deserve it, but also need it to rank up. There's also some other things that we could pin point in the community which has been monumental in the forum's success. I'd probably like to see fail of the year, and non forum categories be removed in favour of them. I now fail of the year is kind of a fun little vote though.

If it helps me get elected as Miss Bitcointalk, I could promise a picture of my (man)boobs if I win Cheesy
I think I talk for the majority of the community on this; no one wants to see this, please don't Tongue.

So what if instead of focusing on users who reported the most posts, focus on users who open topics to talk about these cases of plagiarism and spam. Could this be wrong reasoning?
At the end of the day who you vote for is your discretion, and even if I wouldn't agree with your reasoning, it's down to you. Ultimately, the community has to have the same sort of logic/reasoning since the user with the most votes; wins. So, while defining categories is all well, and good it's likely going to be taken with a pinch of salt, and given some sort of freedom of vote anyhow. At least by the majority of voters.
