Coinbase offers exit package for employees not comfortable with its mission

Since Coinbase has released  their mission a couple of days ago here:

Everyone is asking the question about how companies should engage in broader societal issues during these difficult times, while keeping their teams united and focused on the mission. Coinbase has had its own challenges here, including employee walkouts. I decided to share publicly how I’m addressing this in case it helps others navigate a path through these challenging times.
In short, I want Coinbase to be laser focused on achieving its mission, because I believe that this is the way that we can have the biggest impact on the world. We will do this by playing as a championship team, focus on building, and being transparent about what our mission is and isn’t.

However, the mission was somewhat controversial for some employees specially that they are targeting and IPO or it could really affect them:

These are difficult times, and every CEO I know is trying to figure out how to lead through it.
I recognize that our approach is not for everyone, and may be controversial. I know that many people may not agree, and some employees may resign. I also know that some of what I’ve written above will be misinterpreted, whether accidentally or on purpose. But I believe it’s the right approach for Coinbase that will set us up for success long term, and I would rather be honest and transparent about that than equivocate and work in a company that is not aligned.

So it will be a challenge, maybe there are some employees that are going to take severance pay at it much clash with their idea on how to build Coinbase as they are trying to be apolitical.

What are your thoughts on this?

It appears a fair game to me. If you wish to continue working for or with Coinbase then you will have to share with its mission. If the mission is something which you think is not worth it or probably disappointing or even wrong from your personal perspective, then you should leave. You cannot have your own way, contrary to that of Coinbase, and work with the company.

The package offered to those who feel it's time to quit sounds generous enough to me.

I've got nothing against companies remaining apolitical, but I have two issues with this statement from Coinbase.

First of all, stop dressing it up with obvious lies about "changing the world" and "solving inequality". Just be honest and say what you really mean - "We don't want to take sides in any political debate because that will alienate the other side and that might turn off some customers and affect our profits, which after all, is all we care about."

Second, and more importantly, this quote:

This means we want to use cryptocurrency to bring economic freedom to people all over the world.

Fuck off. Just fuck off Coinbase. If this were even a little true, you wouldn't hand over customers' private data to the IRS. You wouldn't have formed a partnership with morally bankrupt human rights abusers to use their technology to spy on your users. You wouldn't have then sold this technology to the IRS, the DEA, the FBI, the CIA, and who knows who else. Global economic freedom? Please. You don't even give customers freedom over their own coins that they deposit to your exchange. This is such a brazen lie that Coinbase's users should feel insulted they even tried to pass it off.

As always: Delete Coinbase.

Yeah, that's all politically correct corporate double-speak that was no doubt written by a spin team or a committee put together to craft the most progressive statement possible without really saying much of anything. 

Every company I know of does the same fucking thing, and I've learned to see past statements like that.

That's another fluff statement.  I would absolutely love it if someone at Coinbase (or any other crypto organization for that matter) could lucidly tell the world how cryptocurrency is going to "bring economic freedom to people all over the world".  Frankly, that's a line shitposters on bitcointalk have been writing for years and it's meaningless.  There's no way crypto can achieve anything close to providing economic freedom to people unless the banking system collapses, people start getting paid in crypto, stores start pricing goods in terms of crypto.....and on and on.

Those who left Coinbase were the smart ones.
