If display is fully dimmed you can not be sure whether device is on or off.  I sent you PM.
Normally, I would say that on Windows, which I think jerry0 is using, if you don't get the "USB device connected/disconnected" sound when connecting or disconnecting the Ledger... and nothing is showing in the device manager... then it is almost guaranteed that the device is not working or powering up properly.

However... I believe the Nano S doesn't actually show up as a device until after you have entered a PIN... which is simply impossible when the screen is not working Sad

Hey.  Im using windows ten.  Yea there is no usb device connected/disconnected sound when connecting or disconnecting it.  Previously when it worked there was.  But you are saying if it shows up in the device manager, that might mean it would work?

Hey.  Well the issue with what you say is... reset it first... first off can you do that with the condition of my ledger now?  You say im not a tech guy so forget about it.  But the big issue is this.  If i did reset it... then it screws up the whole thing b/c i dont want it reset.  The thing is im not for sure my seed is correct... so wouldnt resetting it screw the entire process up?  I mentioned i want to fix it without it getting reset so i could enter my pin on it...

It's quite easy. Don't do anything until you have checked your seed / mnemonic code.

Once you verified that your mnemonic code is correct, proceed further. Until then, simply don't try to repair/reset your nano.

Okay I got a new nano ledger s and restored it with my old seed and got it to work thanks to HCP.

Now... what should i do with the nano ledger s that doesn't work?  Should i attempt to blowdry it and then connect to my laptop to see if it works?  Since there is no risk anymore since i got a new nano ledger s and restored the seed?

The other thing i thought was just buy another cable of the thing that you connect the ledger to?   Someone told me it was like a regular usb cable and only a few dollars.  I don't think i have this cable with me... except of course the new nano ledger s that it came with.  It would be really foolish and stupid to use the new nano ledger s cable and connect it to broken nano ledger s and connect it to my laptop to see if it turns on right?  Because if the broken nano ledger doesn't turn on.. and i connect the new nano ledger s cable to it, i risk damaging it?

No. There is no way you can damage the cable. It doesn't have any microchips or anything like that in it. It is simply an electrical conduit.

The cable that comes with the Ledger is nothing "special". It is not a proprietary cable. It is a "standard" micro-USB data cable with the Ledger logo printed on it Tongue Micro-USB cables are fairly cheap and relatively ubiquitous, although they are slowly being replaced by USB Type-C cables as more and more devices move to the new standard.

Do whatever you like with the old Nano S... it really doesn't matter at this point as you've successfully recovered your wallet using a new Nano S device.

HCP thanks.  Well because of how risk averse i am, nothing wrong with buying that cable on amazon to try it then right?  Thus try and connect it to my old nano ledger and to my laptop to see what happens?

Also would you recommend the blowdrying it like someone else suggested in the thread?  Now if one method somehow works and it restores it, I assume if it does, it would be still a dimmed screen at best... then obviously enter wrong pin and reset it right?  But if it doesn't work, what should i do with it?  Break it with a hammer?  I mean there is no harm to just have it with me right?  I obviously won't just toss it out in the garbage.

I remember that we had this discussion already.
To put it simply, there is no risk to your cryptos stored in the hardware wallet.

You can literally do whatever you want it. If you are interested in trying it out, go for it.

But if it doesn't work, what should i do with it?  Break it with a hammer?  I mean there is no harm to just have it with me right?  I obviously won't just toss it out in the garbage.

Preferably reset it. If you can't see anything because of the screen, put it in a microwave and break it with a hammer.
