No need to explain more than what LordShanken shared where there is an absolute ban on Bitcoin in Pakistan. Of course, people are still using it, direct p2p and all that but the ban announcement from their central bank actually says the state won't get involved in any disputes arising from the use of Bitcoin between companies and organizations...
Basically, I know Pakistanis using Bitcoin and accepting it. No enforcement. But yeah, be dumb to advertise on your business website that you accept it!
There is no threat of fines or jail even. The circular to banks reads:
"In view of the foregoing, all Banks/ DFIs/ Microfinance Banks and Payment System Operators (PSOs)/Payment Service Providers (PSPs) are advised to refrain from processing, using, trading, holding, transferring value, promoting and investing in Virtual Currencies/Tokens. Further, banks/DFIs/Microfinance Banks and PSOs/PSPs will not facilitate their customers/account holders to transact in VCs/ICO Tokens. Any transaction in this regard shall immediately be reported to Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) as a suspicious transaction."
This piece of news about a
local judge challenging the ban came a couple of days ago too.
