Since theymos changed the source code a lot, I suppose he can introduce a "bug fix" by simply renaming the CSS .signature class to something else. Or maybe PowerGlove can submit a patch for that.

I guess it's something that would be merged quickly due to business reasons.

I don't think it's a bug. If I remember correctly, the forum used to try to "hide" the forum ads from adblockers, but since there are no forum ads anymore, there's no need.
Besides, this would start a cat and mouse game with uBlock. They can probably change their code a lot faster.

Signature business obviously. It's not like most bitcointalk visitors don't use ad-blockers.

Exactly Wink That's why I don't expect the forum to quickly update for this.

I guess that PowerGlove can come up with something that is working easy and dont causes anymore the problems with the Ad Blocker.
For me i dont have any problems with Adblocker Ultimate for the Firefox Browser and i never got any problems in the past.
But a few in the German Local Board also have got the problem that they dont have seen the Signatures because of the Blocker Apps they using.

For those who have the uBlock Origin extension installed on their browsers, it looks like they impulsively decided to block forum signatures yet again. No sure why they keep doing this because not all forum signatures are "adverts".
Just disable uBlock origin totally for bitcointalk forum by adding exception, simply clicking on big central button.
There are no more advertisements in forum so you don't have to worry about that, and uBlock extension will continue to work perfectly on all other websites.
Also remember to click F5 to clear cache in browser after adding exception for bitcointalk.
I can confirm everything works fine for me with all signatures.

So I am late to the discussion. I thought something serious was going on then saw the OP created back in 2020. Scrolled to find who bumped and why. Good thing that I do not use any blocker and I have no issue at all.

I can confirm everything works fine for me with all signatures.

I think so. Yesterday, I also experienced the same thing, I saw the signatures of forum members have gone. I didn't find a problem with general setting in browser, there was no issue with the change of forum rules. So, I checked if any problem with adblock on the browser or adblock on VPN. I find out that the problem on the adblock setting. After I add Bitcointalk to "allowlist", I could see again all the signatures.

Upon waking up today (8 am) i saw signatures were gone as well on mobile browser, i am using Brave, i thought some signature campaign ended but upon visiting my profile it's the same too. My settings on Brave is aggressive mode for block trackers and ads since then, it just that this happens now. So yeah, changing it to standard helps.

Looks like Brave follows this practice, i see firefox mobile don't work like this even on strict mode

they added back the filter almost instantly
Code:
bitcointalk.org##.signature:has(a[href]:not([href*="bitcointalk.org"]))
Does this mean a signature advertising a casino but including a small link to "bitcointalk.org" gets through the filter? If so, this is something campaign managers could do: every time uBlock updates their filter, the signatures can be updated to get around it.

I did try to add "#bitcointalk.org" in the end of every link, it doesn't work, i tried one of the links to change the domain to "bitcointalk.org" it doesn't work too, then i change every domain to "bitcointalk.org" and it works, the signature appears. This means the signature only not get blocked if all the URLs in the signature redirects or has "bitcointalk.org" as domain. Unless this forum has a redirect URL type of service/offer, say "bitcointalk.org/bcgame" to redirect bcgame site, this will not get solve. Or someone make a dispute to unblock bitcointalk signature URLs in Ublock. Else we will need to enable cosmetic filtering for bitcointalk, well, for uBlock users only.

I'm using uBlock (Chrome browser) on my work's PC as well; disabled it for Bitcointalk, refreshed the page and the signatures suddenly re-appeared again. Not sure if there's something undergoing, but this is the first time I'm encountering it.

Been more than a week since I last visited or posted anything on the forum, just came back today to discover that signatures are no longer displayed, I am very active in the gambling board and for a minute, I wondered if signatures have finally been banned on that board, I came out and discovered that signature are not displayed anywhere on the forum, I came down here to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issue and possibly posted about it here, and I found this thread.

I mostly visit the forum using mobile, and my main browser is samsung mobile native browser, I remember turning on adblocker but that was a very long time ago, which is to say that even with the adblocker turned on, signatures on this forum were still displayed interrupted, after reading comments here, I decided to turn off the adblocker feature and boom, signatures are back.

But I am still wondering what would or must have happened that brought about the disappearance of signatures all of a sudden, maybe Theymos changed some codes in the backend of the forum's codebase.

No, there's no update in the forum's backend, it's about the adblocker's decision to block signature space of bitcointalk like uBlock, Brave too, if you set the adblocker to strict mode. Maybe for browsers with built-in adblocker will do the same if they are following the same list.

Check the post here on the 3rd page https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5284999.msg64558908#msg64558908

I'm not going to enter into a cat-and-mouse game fighting adblockers via HTML changes, redirections, etc.

Several years ago I added per-user classes on signatures, like sig35 for my signature. I had hoped that adblockers would list all of the users wearing annoying sigs, and do the adblocking that way. I guess the way they did it here was a lot easier, even if it has some false-positives and false-negatives. Though it'd probably be better if they detected signatures containing <span>s instead of external links: that'd allow for users to link to their private sites, etc., but would (I think) eliminate any flashy ads.

After saying that it wasn't adblocks, because I don't use them, but just in case, I accessed my VPN (Nordvpn) and disabled the extra security features like web threat prevention. After disabling them and pressing F5 on the page, the signatures magically appeared.

Will reporting this to VPN support jeopardize my privacy?  Cheesy

After saying that it wasn't adblocks, because I don't use them, but just in case, I accessed my VPN (Nordvpn) and disabled the extra security features like web threat prevention. After disabling them and pressing F5 on the page, the signatures magically appeared.
How does that work? Your browser is supposed to have a secure connection to https://bitcointalk.org. Is your VPN acting as a man-in-the-middle to change the HTML? Or does this happen locally in your browser?

Will reporting this to VPN support jeopardize my privacy?  Cheesy

In my situation, ublock is hiding everyone's signatures. When I disabled it  , i can see them again

I was worried theymos disabled them at first. Happy to see it is not the case.

When I started to read the thread I began thinking it could have been a suitable April Fools Day joke for theymos to use next year. Then, just as you I also thought maybe signatures were disabled either for some reason. Anyway, with the amount of members citing uBlock as the primary focal point (regardless of whether they were using Chrome or Firefox), I think we can safely conclude we know what the culprit is and also know how to rectify the situation for those that use it.
