Alas, the Guardian’s analysis is merely hysterical TDS as expected; and moreover, the result of the election is not now known—not just yet...
It is somewhat hysterical, yes. But Trump is undeniably a (thankfully metaphorical) loose cannon, and Trumpism a loose canon, with nothing of substance beneath the aggressive and populist soundbites. His past record suggests that his response to an election defeat is to never acknowledge the defeat, rile up the base, and then direct the angry mob at his opponents. Fraud! Lock him/her/them up! Stand back and stand by! Standing by, sir!

America is an abomination, the very worst “evil empire” in all of recorded or recoverable history.
It is the greatest in extent, because it is the empire of the modern age, and has the tools of the modern age at its disposal, and has learned well from the imperfections of previous empires. The system has matured and has been refined. Beneath that, though, people are people. People running an empire are people running an empire. I doubt that people running previous empires were any less perfidious, grasping and self-serving than those running America right now.
Trump is of course not really running America—he's a tool (both common and slang)—but he's carved a route to power that is unprecedented in America, and Republicans and those shadowy figures behind the scenes* will be willing to an extent to indulge him. Trump may be a lame duck, but Trumpism is alive and (probably) kicking. He knows that he personally is on the way out. Expect the last couple of months to be concentrated essence-of-Trump (now there's a stocking-filler for Christmas). The question really is how loose his leash will be.

*Why are they always shadowy? Surely they'd be more effective if completely invisible?

I guess if we have a nuclear holocaust under Joe and Hoe, you can say it's all Trump's fault?

We might not get the chance to say anything afterwards. Probably best to get it out of the way now: It's all Trump's fault.

Ah, I knew it would make you happy, the opportunity to sling yet another pile of mud.

Programmatically, successful propaganda dissemination requires not just naive and gullible people parroting the lines of the moment, but requires them to have an endorphin rush when doing so.

This keeps them happy.

Lame duck tweet-fires (or kills; the tweet was kinda ambiguous: "Mark Esper has been terminated") defense secretary because reasons:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/09/politics/trump-fires-esper/index.html

(edit)

Donald Lame Duck is rage tweeting about Pfizer vaccine announcement and blaming them for delaying it on purpose to hurt his chances in the election.

The @US_FDA and the Democrats didn’t want to have me get a Vaccine WIN, prior to the election, so instead it came out five days later – As I’ve said all along!

Pretty sure we were expecting him to begin cleaning house if he won too. There'd been some rumors from Trump admin officials that he was planning on firing the FBI head, CIA head and Sec Defense Esper, which we can now see has come to fruition.

I mean it is fair for the President to want loyal people around him to support his vision, totally can't complain about that. You can complain about the fact that he may be only installing yes man to surround him because he just wants blind loyalty instead of people that'll give him fair criticism to his plans.

Guess we'll see what the rest of the lame duck session means. I expect a large amount of appointments to different permanent positions to occur before a Biden admin come in. Some may fail like the Fed board nominee Judy Shelton, but that may come back up when the two COVID positive Senators (Grassly and Scott) from the GOP are able to enter the chambers and vote again.

But I'm expecting a LOT of these lame duck appointments to termed positions that Biden will be unable to fire them from or to the federal courts which are for life.
