This dude messaged me on telegram to exchange his PP for my BTC pretending to be CryptopreneurBrainboss. Their telegram handles are so similar so one might easily get confused.

Real owner's telegram : @PedroBrainboss
Scammers telegram : @PedrosBrainboss

Obviously, I asked them to sign a message or send me a PM from their Bitcointalk account and they couldn't. I wasted a good bit of his time but scams like these are easy to fall for if you're not an experienced member on bitcointalk. I don't have any other information except the address they sent me to send BTC which is

I didn't get scammed but just putting it out here so others can be safe. Always cross-verify things and DO NOT ever send first without an escrow unless you trust the other party in your trade.

Thanks @Joel_Jantsen for this awareness, this isn't the first time I'm experiencing some impersonating from scammers trying to take advantage of my reputation to scam gullible users. I have reported several accounts acting as me on telegram in hope for them to be taken down but seems that isn't having any effect as more scammers keep popping up.

My advice for all those reading this thread is to confirm from me on the forum before executing any transaction be it via currency exchange or campaign management services. I have my telegram ID on my profile so you can just copy and paste to reach me directly.

Note: I don't transaction off forum unless there's a need for that to be done due to some privacy reasons like when transacting in our local currency.

This is now a common scam and you will see many people impersonate to be the trusted person to scam people. This is everywhere on social media and also on youtube etc.
The rule of thumb is that CryptopreneurBrainboss or any famous/trusted person will not contact you first. Anyone contacting you first and ask for money surely will be a scam.

Good advice Boss as one of the highly reputable member of this forum, expect many scammers to impersonate you, if someone here got scam by Boss impersonator it's his fault, he did not message and confirm first.
Never deal with telegram when it comes to peer to peer transaction it's not the safe place to transact, telegram do not offer protection and some of it's features are favoring scammers.

Thanks for sharing it with us. I am facing the same issue, someone annoying me with a similar telegram username of mine. Even I have written a note in my profile, but I have received a couple of messages that imposter succeeds to scam. Although there is no fault for me, but I feel bad. I have also created a few warning threads as well to prevent that imposter.

Peoples should make sure via forum PM with a signed message that they aren't dealing with scammers. Bitcoin is an irreversible cryptocurrency, we can't do anything after a scam happening. So, it's quite important to make any financial deal via forum PM by using a trusted escrow from here.

I don't quite agree with that, because I've been PM'ed by quite a few "prominent" members of the forum looking to do deals (but not on social media, which I don't use).  On the other hand, I'd dealt with most of them before so none of those PMs were entirely unexpected.

OP, are you saying it's the "Brainboss" part of the telegram handle that's making you think he's impersonating CryptopreneurBrainboss?  I wouldn't have assumed someone with the handle @PedroBrainboss would be trying to impersonate CBB.  I don't even know the significance of "Brainboss" is, though I'm curious.

@PedroBrainboss is his real telegram handle, you can find it in his profile: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1052091

@PedrosBrainboss is the fake one. No doubt that this is an impersonation attempt.

No worries man! That's good to know. One possible solution could be sharing telegram only with the users privately instead of having it on the profile because it becomes easier to copy the telegram handle and create a similar one. I'm still brainstorming a better way to handle this.

Oh not just that, their username on telegram is also CryptopreneurBrainboss. They linked me to the original forum account of CryptopreneurBrainboss when asked who they are on the forum. They linked me to the real CryptopreneurBrainboss's forum account's trust page too. So clearly a case of impersonation.
