I haven't seen any discussion about this, so here we are.  As this latest major fork is upon us, I have to wonder if this will be a good thing for 'pre-fork' BTC such as that sitting at Casascius Coin addresses.  Do you think this fork will unlock additional value to Bitcoin Cash, or will it simply splinter it's value?  Will this trend continue forever, making items like Casascius Coins more valuable as they receive additional forked coins similar to dividends from these forks, or will the forks be ignored as not having much value?

Also, what other collectibles are holding 'pre-fork' BTC?

I don’t see why they wouldn’t add value. Personally I simply see forks as dividends. I also would only value these forks as to whatever their exact value is at time of sale. I personally think all bitcoin forks are shit, so I put no value or premium on these forks future potential values.

Some Satoris, BTCC coins/chips, Titans, Lealana, Casascius..pre-fork coins I can think of off the top of my head.

Will this trend continue forever, making items like Casascius Coins more valuable as they receive additional forked coins similar to dividends from these forks, or will the forks be ignored as not having much value?

https://decrypt.co/48240/bitcoin-cash-to-undergo-hard-fork-tomorrow-heres-how-to-prepare

Also, what other collectibles are holding 'pre-fork' BTC?

Any loaded BTC BTC collectables as of August 1, 2017 when the first fork occurred, some of which were listed above by Chi Smiley

You can add a lot of makers from this thread created by minerjones (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=346731) as well, under:

"MAKERS WITH PUBLIC ADDRESS LIST OR REFERENCE THREAD"

Absolutely correct. Those loaded before that date are the real Ancestrol Coins.

Looks like Bitcoin Cash ABC turned out to be a dud. I’m reading it may disappear if it doesn’t get some serious support soon.

The proposal for btc abc is not popular at all. Lots of people  think its fork will fail because most of Bitcoin Cash users will use it. Nearly 82% of miners use the BCHN full node software. It tells me  that they don support  the ABC fork. There are also lots of other internal issues.

Since I do not have CAS loaded coin I do not know how it is affecting now due to the fork. Without the private key you do not know whether you truely have the access to bcc by undeeming one. No matter what it has the  numismatic value.

You write those little notes inside fortune cookies?

If not I think you’ve missed your calling.

Additionally I believe the OP was addressing all pre-fork coins not just Casascius.

Hold on  I am looking up aneurysm in my medical dictionary to see if I just had one.  Grin

You got 4 good points:

- 1st one: You write those little notes inside fortune cookies?
Remember Roman was not built in one day. It was built one day at a time.

- 2nd point: If not I think you’ve missed your calling.
I have to agree I need more organization. No matter how hard I try it seems to be messed up.

- 3rd point: Additionally I believe the OP was addressing all pre-fork coins not just Casascius.
Thank you. Until your last comment  I see CAS is not mentioned as I have some issue scrolling up. Anyway, I thought we can start taking one example like CAS. Right after this post, I will reboot my portable ipad.

- 4th point: Also, what other collectibles are holding 'pre-fork' BTC?
Yes, There are many pre-fork coins.

Anyway continue.. I have to take shower. Will join again in the future.

This is right but the problem and risk of buying some physical coin like Casascius is when the holder bought it by the time fork value is too high just like what happened when BCH was around 0.1 to 0.2BTC. We all know that that the value of all physical coins that time adjust based on the fork value. So there is a big loss from them especially if they want to sell it now because BCH price heavily dump.

I’d dare say a lot of collectors don’t take the fork amounts too seriously unless they intend to peel and redeem a high value/rare collectible instead of actually collecting and holding.

Don’t get me wrong, they definitely add value - if your plan is to peel them for the small amount of forked value over keeping intact a piece of history in some cases.

The flip side is, what if all the forks are worth nothing 5 years from now or sooner - is the coin less valuable?

I’d say if you are in the market for a nice pre fork coin like a Casascius (as that seems to be the focus coin here) - you most likely aren’t looking to peel it on arrival for the few $$ you’d get.

Thanks!

I never understood how anyone could believe in bch, not judging just no sense. Long live bitcoin.

Personaly, the forks are just added annoyance to price unless you bought them early/before.

For me I don't account for them.  The only ones I'd consider them for is some of the higher valued cas coins since most of those pretty much sell for spot if they are ever sold to begin with.  Otherwise who is peeling a satori coin to sweep the coins.  I assume most if not all of these forks will eventually get to the graveyard so coins that are never planned to be peeled shouldn't be priced with fork prices in mind (unless I'm selling  Cheesy jk).
