I recently opened my wallet from being closed for over a month. It is not yet in sync yet I am staking. I don't understand how that is possible.
I check the transaction ID on the explorer and they are not found. I assume my wallet has forked.
How to prevent staking while it is trying to sync?
Yes you are forked. (Unless the chain is still downloading and the PoS blocks you are making become invalidated as new blocks are received.) I will put up a new bootstrap today for faster syncing.Current bootstrap can be downloaded from 5-30-2022-bootstrap.zip I will also be releasing a wallet update in the next few days to extend wait time for activating PoS on chain download finish.

STAKING ETIQUETTE:
APCDC splits stakes. Meaning if you have 1 input of 100 and it stakes it will result in two inputs of 50.5. Every stake breaks the staked input into 2 pieces. After weeks & or months of staking this can result in a rather large amount of inputs. This is not a problem for the average user but INPUT MINERS can end up with a rather large headache down the road when trying to send coins. Due to the INPUT MINERS large amount of inputs staking occurs quite often and can affect sending APCDC. INPUT MINERS that are having problems sending APCDC out should set a reservebalance before attempting a send so that none of the inputs stake and cause the transaction to fail.
Please NOTE that setting a reserve balance stops the amount of coins chosen to NOT STAKE until the reserve balance flag is set to false.
You can set the reserve balance via client debug & conf file.
For config add
reservebalance=# (# amount of APCDC to NOT STAKE)
to disable just add a # before reservebalance
for debug
reservebalance true # (# amount of APCDC to NOT STAKE)
to disable type reservebalance false
To check if you have an active reserved balance type
reservebalance in console by itself.

Having a typical explorer with Network and Top100 would be nice to see as I typically have 0 connections to the chain half the day.
The top 100 section was apparently not activated after it was updated to update daily for YOU. Our team member simply forgot to activate the link or set incorrectly on who can view it. I will fix this tomorrow.
The block explorer is the same block explorer that has been used since the day APCDC went online. So it's not been changed to some basic explorer.
As for your having 0 connections for half the day I do not know what to tell you since all nodes are up and have been up. Nodes automatically restart on any error and system reboot. There are always at the minimum 5 nodes online at any given time. There is never 0.
