My GIVE wallet will not update, is there a new list of addnodes? Is anyone able to update their wallet?

My wallet updates perfectly, never had any trouble. I tried searching for .conf file in appdata folder but I don't have one there. It still syncs without problems.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Just a quick announcement to relay that doabitofgood.com is spinning up a GIVEcoin block explorer on its own infrastructure to add some stability to the publicly available information on GIVE.  The official one has been up and down lately.

The one hosted at CryptoBlock is also available and appears to be stable, so definitely bookmark that one as well:

http://explorer.cryptoblox.com/chain/GiveCoin

We started the database load/indexing about an hour ago and are up to first 18,000 blocks so I expect to have an initial test site online yet today or tomorrow.  Will announce an update with an official url after it completes our rigorous dev and q/a testing.

We're still looking for additional launch partner organizations so if you have a charity in mind either nominate@doabitofgood.com or have them register as an organization on our site.

GIVEcoin Early.  GIVEcoin often ;-)

So our block explorer based on a stock ABE install works well -- we need to brand it before making it publicly available.

We have been steadily acquiring GIVE in the open market and will be making a public declaration of our holdings as well as our plans regarding our reserves going forward.

As always, "GIVE early! GIVE often!" - :-)

I'm not sure what you mean by "investors" -- considering that we have provided a significant amount of backstop and transactional support for GIVE on Bittrex whomever is selling us their coins is doing so willingly and profitably.

We'll disclose our investment in the chain soon.

doabitofgood.com received a 200,000 coin bounty that is being distributed Bit4Bit to everyone who downloads the screensaver as well as however the foundation see's fit to donate within our system.  That 5% premine has been used for similar bounties so I wouldn't get too anxious about it.  The REAL question one ought to ask about ANY pre-mined chain is whether they are getting the long term value from the on-going support of the developers?  Unlike a stock in a company where there are all kinds of "undisclosed warrants and grants" I think having a full disclosed pre-mine is a perfectly acceptable method for potentially rewarding the early investors.

Our use of the coin is as our internal score keeping / "reserve currency" -- the coins will largely stay within our system to be pledged, purchased, re-pledged as users see fit.  The target "user" of the coin is NOT a cryptocurrency miner -- we are establishing a corporate "underwriter" model whereby institutions and individuals can "bid" on a non-profits or prosocial causes coins and in turn donate those coins to another cause.  We are working with the developers to add in POS as well as a way of tying coins to exchange values by acting as a signatory on the ledger, which means we'll be able to show the historical values of given coins.  This is a first step towards a "colorcoin" implementation.

Given how trivial it is to establish a new chain for our own purposes (something we haven't ruled out by the way) -- I would think that any additional support, including marketing and infrastructure would be welcome by any ALT ;-)

As of a few minutes ago we crossed over 125,000,000 GIVE produced since launch.

That means 1/4 of the total GIVE has been generated and is sitting somewhere right now waiting to Do a Bit of Good (we hope!)

I can confirm at this time that doabitofgood.com has acquired on the open market a significant amount of GIVE which it continues to move into its vault for use as the defacto internal coinbase for its charitable giving platform.

As the chain moves towards a Proof of Stake model this will be important in helping assure that the coin continues to be used for making the kind of change the community wants to see in the world.

We're looking for your projects to sponsor on doabitofgood.com!  Everyone who signs up and creates a GIVE payment address automatically gets free coins to donate!  All GIVE based projects are eligible for Bit4Bit matching funds!

Sign up and help us Screen Save the World!

Great news.

However, what's happening with devs? We haven't heard from them in awhile? It's pretty much you that's keeping this thread and apparently the actual coin alive... that's not very encouraging from devs.

It would certainly be nice to hear what are they planning, if they're planning to do anything with this coin at all. C'mon Givatoshi, let go of the CLOAK for a second and GIVE us some news. Tongue

Thanks for the props :-)

You're absolutely right though that we should have an update from the core team.

I can relay that doabitofgood.com is sincerely committed to this coinbase and we are establishing a "digital trust" to help pay for additional development and support.  We are closely tracking some other coinbases for best of breed implementations and have been giving some guidance to the team.

We are doing alpha testing right now on our "intra-site" trading platform that will allow donor/subscribers and organizations the ability to exchange their coins within our system.  This is an important step before we open up the ability for our "underwriters" the ability to acquire coins from their favorite causes and put them back into circulation which we hope will begin a "virtuous cycle" in charitable giving.

If you are really into GIVEcoin for pro-social reasons, put a stick in the ground and either open a free deposit account on our system or just donate coins to our community driven "#BIT4BIT fund 7GiveThnMDszMG4CWHLUagoGgoScpdGKVS

You can read more about our plans to sponsor a High School FIRST robotics team competition starting this Fall.

Alright GIVEcoin fans, this is it!

We just fired off an Indiegogo crowdfunding bid which in theory should help establish a first real world GIVEcoin to fiat basis!

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/let-s-screen-save-the-world

USD/GIVE $0.03125

This will be the minimum book basis for anyone who pledges to the campaign and donates them within the system.  These coins will carry this value for donation receipt purposes.

This valuation will also be used as the floor price for our underwriters who will be able to bid on coins FROM organizations and in turn can re-donate them back to any other organization as they see fit.

If you really believe in the transformative power of GIVEcoin then please consider a small pledge on Indiegogo -- better yet?  Socialize it out to your friends, fans and family!

Its only when we expand the crypto-currency economies will all boats rise.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Looks like Bittrex has taken GIVEcoin off the delist radar for the time being -- at least they aren't socializing it at the top of the trade window.

doabitofgood.com is exploring PAR-VALUE vouchers to all coins acquired through our Indiegogo campaign and donated to organizations and pro-social causes that are hosted on our site as the funds we are raising will in turn be used to expand access to the system, including finalizing our connection to licensed payment processor "PaySimple.com"

We are also working very closely with the developers on the migration to a more Proof-of-Stake based chain later this summer based in part on what we're seeing in the CleanWaterCoin chain that we also support.

It's pretty evident based on the cadence of the blocks emitted that the network is under-powered at the moment.

http://explorer.givecoin.info/chain/GiveCoin

We have finally been able to gen up a BAMT distro that has X11 support to begin throwing power at the network last night and have popped a couple blocks:

http://explorer.givecoin.info/address/7PqsJbh2iMx8RtRmyrsCZvmrTekGCdhR5p

(to date all our stake in Givecoin has been via the generous gift from the foundation and the significant purchases we have made via Bittrex)

We are committed to helping take on the development efforts necessary to migrate the blockchain to a Proof of Stake / Proof of Work based model that should help restore the block cadence as well as reward those invested in the coinbase for the long term by permitting the POS work to generate an "interest" reward similar to other chains.

I have been in touch with the team and we are working through the details and especially the timing.

Until then its STATUS QUO.

Details when I have them.

Sincerely,

Here's what I know today:

1. doabitofgood.com has fired up its first dedicated water cooled dual 7990 GPU rig that is working to keep the block chain emitting blocks.

It has been amusing watching the mining activity on the blockexplorer.  Someone hits it hard when the difficulty is low and then pops a bunch of blocks in quick succession until it goes up.  I think we need to look at how the Kimoto Gravity Well is tuned because it does not seem to be reactive enough from my limited observation.

2. I have forked the code on Github and have begun cleaning up the codebase in order to get it to compile in a native 64-bit binary on Mac OS X:

https://github.com/LittleDuke/givecoin

I have cleaned up all the bad/missing typecasts from the X11 hash suite so that they compile cleanly on Mac OS X 10.9 aka Mavericks.  This will be a win for all X11 based chains.  I will check in my changes once the whole project builds successfully.

I'm currently working on an inconsistency between GCC and the new Apple compiler/linker that is preventing Boost from linking the x86_64 libraries.   Honestly I think its in ALL codebases better interest to migrate away from using the Boost library -- there are only a few objects imported and its a ridiculously big/bloated codebase for a few utility/convenience functions.   I certainly will not be using it for either IDCoins or M3T4Coin.

Once it compiles cleanly on Mac OS X 64bit, we will tip up a permanent Windows development workstation so that we can build that.  Obviously the Linux build works flawlessly :-)

The current development goal is to begin migration from POW to POS/POW.  POS encourages the right kind of interest in the chain and stakeholders tend to be engaged longer term.

3. bittrex.com has once again put up notice to de-list.   If they do, that will just accelerate our desire to host an exchange directly on doabitofgood.com.

I can confirm that as of today doabitofgood.com has an approximately 12% stake in the chain through its open market acquisitions on Bittrex and will continue to invest in the development of the chain through a combination of software engineering support as well as its current use as our default "reserve currency" within our system.  This fall we will be unveiling our "underwriter support" system that will enable donors and corporate sponsors the ability to bid on any non-profit or pro-social causes coins (as well as any other items they may want to put up for silent auction) -- with the express understanding that those coins will be re-donated back to any other cause that they so choose to support.  This in effect will begin a "virtuous cycle" in charitable giving!

Our long term plan is to work with other pro-social coinbases to create merged mining opportunities, but that is going to take time and patience.  I can relay that we are heavily investing in Clean Water Coin as well...

More announcements are forthcoming.

It appears that a native 64-bit app on Mac is a shared problem:

https://github.com/pooler/litecoin/blob/master-0.8/doc/build-osx.md

"For example, building on an OS X 10.6 64-bit machine fails. Official release builds of Litecoin-Qt are compiled on an OS X 10.6 32-bit machine to workaround that problem."

Therefore, I have acquired 32-bit iMac and need to slick 10.6 "Snow Leopard" to setup a permanent build environment for the Mac versions of the Wallet.

Also, in a completely random bit of happiness, my path crossed with Catcoin developer "hozer" (Troy Benjegerdes) who is also in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul and we've agreed to collaborate on development!

With a shift to POS I would recommend acquiring and holding GIVE -- also if you have the time please consider dropping the guys at Bittrex a ping to let them know that you're still interested in having them host the exchange.

Current Official Block Explorer:

http://explorer.givecoin.info/chain/GiveCoin

The difficulty is up and there is low power in the network at the moment.

doabitofgood.com only recently fired up its first dedicated miner, which you're free to track:

http://explorer.givecoin.info/address/7PqsJbh2iMx8RtRmyrsCZvmrTekGCdhR5p

In other news, I met with Catcoin developer Troy Benjegerdes (dahozer) last night to start the conversation about 2GIVE.  Some really great ideas between the two of us and I'm pretty excited to see what comes of the collaboration!  We agreed that the current base is viable and that everyone invested in it should be rewarded for their long-term loyalty.

Also we picked up a 32bit iMac yesterday and started slicking on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) -- it will take today to apply all the patches and load XCode and all required libraries -- the goal is to have a permanent development station for building Mac binaries online by this weekend.  Once we can provably produce working wallets we'll spin up the Windows 7/8 development stations as our Linux dev environment already works.

Overall considering how young the coinbase is combined with the fact that doabitofgood.com officially launched on May 1st of this year, we've come a long way in what?  3 months???
