Airdrops were so popular among the crypto-community over the years. One of the key features of the airdrops is, it gives every participant a chance to get some free tokens by completing few tasks. Most importantly it is totally free of charge. But nowadays we frequently see a trend where the organizers of some of the airdrops ask to send a small fee prior to sending the tokens. In some cases, they put a condition saying that in order to withdraw tokens or any fund received from the sale of tokens, it is mandatory to take part in their ICOs. I would rather call such events as "Scam-drops" as they not only dilute the meaning of airdrops, but also make people to move away from future events due to lack of trust.

I agree with you and I think this is because crooks want to make money on gullible people.
Previously, those who did  an Airdrop, set a goal to attract people to his project and put to their project like a child but now everyone only thinks about money...
people have not yet forgotten how to believe because scammers sometimes earn.

This didn't happened just only these days. Even before, prior to the bull run you'll see a lot of ICOs were asking for their bounty participants to have this kind of partaking. They were asked for their ETH address and when the rewards were about to come, they were asking them to send a small amount of ETH for the GAS. Before, many just followed it and didn't want to take caution from it. But afterward, they have understood that they shouldn't be giving any amount of ETH because they've participated and they should be the one that must be rewarded.

Airdrop is just a name, more importantly the purpose behind those airdrops. We should really call it the Airdrop since the purpose of the project is to develop their community's reputation, besides, it's all for self-interest so we can avoid it.
Making money is not easy, so before participating in any bounty or airdrop campaign, you should also analyze the project before participating. If we are lucky, we will receive a big airdrop like Energi and Railblock did.

Airdrop is just one of the ways team make awareness about there projects, they are often between $5 to $10 most of the times but the value may differ because of price change.
They are also good for raising large audience especially when a retweet is needed in twitter and Facebook, it's also a good initiative for creating crypto Telegram community groups and channels.
The challenges I have experience with this airdrops as of recent is stealing of data, when filling Google forms or responding to Telegram Bot, ones details such as email, social handles are required which I don't like to give out to anyone because you may end up been spam or sell of your information. This is always bridge of privacy.

To be honest I've never encountered this kind of airdrop. What I often find about fake airdrops is to find new followers or users, increase site traffic, write positive reviews that don't make sense. All tasks are free and easy but never pay for. Usually, scammers promise more rewards to referrers.

if there is an airdrop link and they require to send a fee to be able to withdraw it I think that the "scam drops" airdrop does not charge the slightest and if indeed the airdrop is not a scam, the token has value in the market and that is clear.

I agree. Lately, there have been hardly any Aidrops, and rightly so.
Too many people have been burnt by them and now they became a subject of 'scam' and the interest of using them to create a strong community effect has long been diluted.

maybe this is the step they want to create a new concept for Airdrop, the problem is this makes people who want to join Airdrop even back off. many want to join the airdrop for fun, but if they are charged a payment fee then this is more like being a small investor.

A lot of ICO or IEO project distributing airdrops didn't much impacted the community though.

Consequently, airdrops that required you to pay ETH gas are called self-drop - this is to validate the owner of such address in order to verify authenticity of such address and in order to distribute airdrops to all stakeholders and its patronized community. Yes, airdrop are very worthy back then, 2017 was the time that they are really that good, I remember the Onion airdrop and it was one of the biggest and hottest airdrop then.

I think this started in 2018, when their is a airdrop boom, but projects or scammers behind the project will ask you for a certain fee, worst will ask you your privatekey before they can airdrop you that worthless token. Lol, very tricky indeed. And then there are projects that will ask you a complete KYC procedure first, also very shady.

This I have come across many times, there are a lot of airdrops every day and I realize that it is the scam tele bot to help them increase the number of group members, followers, ... but there are many airdrops. Well that we can still get money, I remember that this year we had a lot of big airdrops of projects from the market.

I've come across such project once and of course I didn't send ETH to the address and I suppose most of the participants also tag the group as spam because later on I'm getting warning from telegram that the bot is tagged as a spam. So I think most are smarter now with their money except maybe new token holders.

Airdrop means the tokens were freely given by the developers to attract the mode users to join or be the supporters for the platforms. When the creator of airdrop has been asking the participants to did something fishy like ending their privkey or seedphrase, join in the crowdsale and that means they have not competence. It must be marked as a scam airdrop.

Bro, don't trust airdrops that gives you task, they are not airdrop but more like "work". There's definitely airdrops out there that doesn't require any task but they are all shitcoin. Almost anything new today is shitcoin, except those projects that definitely funded themselves.

I remember that in the past the money from airdrops was made relatively easy, but now most of us are getting shitcoin and scam. The current airdrops are of poor quality, and i find it to have bullshit and nonsense tasks, so it should be considered "Scam-drops" , but it shouldn't be too biased important because i see that the amount of airdrop is really a lot. If you work hard and have time, i think making money from airdrops is not too difficult.

A distinction needs to be made between free airdrops and those which require a fee. I would never recommend those airdrops which are not free, because it goes against the very idea of airdrops. The main purpose is to distribute small amounts of cryptocurrency among the users, so that at least some of them gets interested in this particular cryptocurrency and start using it.
