CRYPTOPIA LIQUIDATION IMPORTANT INFO

As some of you might know, I've been following the liquidation process closely. The invitation e-mail you've received from the liquidators is legit. You can also check the official website, the liquidators are using it as their communication medium.

I've also posted a warning in the Scam Accusation thread, about a month ago: some personal information of Cryptopia users has been given by mistake to a lobby group. This means they might also have your data and try to contact you. There's no certainty that this lobby group has bad intentions, however be warned. If I understand well, this is however not the case in the e-mail OP's talking about, which comes directly from the liquidators.

Finally, you can find my reports on the (very interesting) liquidation process on this thread, which I'm updating on a regular basis.

The next liquidator's report is expected to be released in a few days.

Good luck to everyone who has lost his coins. I hope you can recover as much coins as possible, and hopefully all of it.

Just check my threads, the situation is looking relatively well (considering, of course, the seriousness of the situation following the hack).

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

I got an email today from no-reply@cryptopia.co.nz to my old email as used at cryptopia, before that exchange folded a few years back.

What it says includes

"Dear Cryptopia Account Holder,

We invite you to begin the Cryptopia Limited (In Liquidation) account holder claims process.

Registering on the Claims Portal is necessary to enable you to lodge your claim.

Failure to participate in this process may mean we will be unable to
return your Cryptocurrency. "

Are these real ?  If so then everyone else with a cryptopia altcoin trading account should get one too, and somebody will post here a report of getting back some of their old altcoins.  If not then I have no reason to disclose anything to the entity who now have the list of user emails.

They are real if you have coins in Cryptopia you should undergo KYC so they can trace your account and see how many coins you have their and compensate you, they do this if you are still interested in retrieving coins that have there at the time they close the exchange, they are not the only exchange that did this, I received similar emails coming from exchange that close where I have account.

I afraid it is sort of pseodo-legal fraud.
Normal way for check account ownership, step-by-step: email, password, OTP, several any transactions deposit or withdraw, sign message from deposit source wallet, etc.
Anti-client, fraud way: incredible details request about dates and balances, with random (90%?) rejects of answers. This may be acceptable if several people claim to own the account. But in typical case, this is a filter for open robbery clients, may be especially non-residents of NZ. In my account frozen over 1.3BTC and several altcoins (> $500 total cost). This guys just locked my account, citing the wrong answers. Ticket posted in cryptopia.zendesk.com, not answered yet.

It sounds like this. " Hello, you were screwed over years ago. But now there is a bubble and we want to screw you over again . Give us your details and you'll get your money back. Of course, according to the current bull market we will give you 2000% more. Sorry for the inconvenience... , just send X Y Z here"

Have you ever checked your spam folder? Your email might be stored on the spam folder but if you have not yet received email from cryptopia for liquidation purpose and you can try to contact the customer support regarding it. You can follow all of steps already mentioned on this article

I have not seen any recent topic about this liquidation, sorry to bump an old thread but this discussion it could help other users that are not aware of this claim.

As you may know,
Quote
In August 2020 an ex-employee* admitted stealing historic private keys (and subsequently funds) from the Company. All funds taken were subsequently recovered by the liquidators. No connection between this theft and the January 2019 hack has been identified.

The entire process is now maintained by Grant Thornton advocacy study.
They have just published a new update.

after registering in their portal they should have contacted you to complete the KYC. If you have not completed, your procedure has not been registered/not completed.
If you want to check your status try to login through their portal and verify what the status of your registration is

Yes, I agree. There might be a hidden gem on the account that you have already forgotten.
The only problem with their support is taking a while to reply to your ticket or solve it, even if you already provided the information needed.
Actually, I'm still waiting for their reply to reset the 2FA on their support website (https://cryptopia.zendesk.com/hc/en-us) to check the status of my claims.

This platform did not have a good reputation since the late years of its activity after it was discovered that it supports tokens for scammed projects and that it sets financial conditions only for its inclusion on the platform, as I remember. This is in addition to the fact that its support team never responds quickly enough.
After the recent incident, people actually lost their trust in it and they didn't even care much about the money they lost. It has been two years since they announced that they will return the users' money, and as we see to this day, nothing has happened or not mentioned that anyone has actually succeeded in recovering his savings.

But at least we are seeing some effort or steps for having the possibility of recovery of those amounts as a user of this exchange. No one really anticipates that they have done something like this because

if you do tend to look on similar cases, platforms do close up their doors totally but there were exemptions considering that some instances where funds cant really be retrieved down or does have
some chance or simply it would be situational.

Its been a while on this Cryptopia hack and now they do have some portal for those old users who could possibly make out some claims which is something good but not really be that hopeful.
You cant even be sure if they would really be giving it back or not.

I expect that this is done as a result of court decisions that are committed trying to recover the stolen money to those affected, but this does not mean at all that the matter may succeed even if they were able to access the stolen money. As it will be difficult to return the money without verifying the identity of its owners.
As far as I know, the identity verification procedures on the platform were not a prerequisite for its use, and therefore there are many accounts and funds that are difficult to combine.

Even the various deadlines and milestones have always been respected.
It is normal that the old balance sheets have not yet returned also because the KYC procedure for the old hodlers is still in progress! Roll Eyes

for now I don't get an email about the claim. But I have tried to make a claim in 2020 and until now there has been no notification about whether my claim has been received or not...
but what happened in cryptopia which has been happening for so long has indirectly been forgotten ,and I also can't expect much about btc and some tokens that are there because the old wound has healed

After the recent incident, people actually lost their trust in it and they didn't even care much about the money they lost. It has been two years since they announced that they will return the users' money, and as we see to this day, nothing has happened or not mentioned that anyone has actually succeeded in recovering his savings.

The process has been handled transparently and all information has been made public.
Even the various deadlines and milestones have always been respected.
It is normal that the old balance sheets have not yet returned also because the KYC procedure for the old hodlers is still in progress! Roll Eyes
I hope this ends quickly and doesn't make the cryptopia members who have tried repeatedly to make claims feel more hurt....
because we know not all of them can forget their assets because some of them the assets in them are the only ones so they have high hopes of being able to return and I also hope that everything that belongs to me returns even though I have forgotten the total amount but see the price increase at this time of course will be a hidden pearl
