Hi guys.
I'm brand new here, just made a user name to post about this.
I have an unopened 2011 25 btc Casascius with the hologram error.
Would like to avoid destroying it's collectible value by opening it.
I feel this should be in a whale's collection, or even a museum one day.
Looking to trade in person under some sort of 3rd party supervision for btc.
Not sure of what the collectible value is on this, as they keep getting rarer, but hoping to get 30 btc for it.
Original owner, in NYC area.
Please PM to discuss if interested.
Thanks!

Nice coin you have there.  The picture thing has to do with being a newbie on the forum.  Dont know the exact rules but I think you have to hit a certain rank before you can post pics.  Good luck on your sale 30btc might be a bit of a stretch at this point, the buyers market is low on this one due to the amount (or lack there of) of people able to buy this.

Thanks.  Ah ok that makes sense about the picture.
I was afraid it might be a bit much to hope for, but it can't hurt to try.

beautiful coin! I keep kicking myself for not having picked these up years ago when it was affordable. Hindsight is 20/20 though right?

as wheelz stated 30 btc might be a reach but still any premium will pretty much beat just a regular peel and redeem. There are several trusted escrows that have done such deals and larger ones as well and have done courier services as well. So, you are definitely in the right place if you are wanting to sell it.

It's a great coin but probably best just keeping or peeling. You'll never get a $100k premium. The more $ BTC is worth, the less BTC premium Cas coins demand.

Have you thought of auctioning it here?

High old Numismatic value coins are sold mostly through auction houses such as Heritage and Sotheby's, those collectors prefer government issue coins. These collectable crypto's have a numismatic value as well but the market demand is far less than the well established generations of coin collectors.  I think eventually ( 20 yrs IMO) these collectables will carve out a niche for a new generation of investors/collectors. The demand is at a 30 year low and peaked around 1991.

Crypto collectables and traditional numismatic collectors are completely different markets (just like stamps and coins). There are a few that overlap (like me) but I think we are pretty few and far between. I don’t expect the traditional numismatic market to show any interest in crypto collectables for many years if at all. On the other hand the crypto collectable enthusiasts are getting more and more and so I suspect the casascius premium will continue to rise (at least in dollar equivalent terms)

Thanks for the replies guys.
I see that auctions happen on the site, but I am brand new here and unfamiliar with how that works.
Also, I don't really trust that this can be mailed somewhere safely, so was definitely looking for someone local to NYC area.
I get it that it will definitely be less hassle and much less possible risk to just peel it and redeem, especially since I'll most likely walk away with well less than 1 btc on top..
Additionally I have no idea how much I'll lose in escrow fees, and then there's taxes to consider..

General question to anyone, how much do btc escrow services typically cost here?

I cannot speak as to what the other escrow guys charge for the fees, my escrow fee is 1% -- As for the courier services, I would love to offer the service know that I could do it easily enough with no issues, I freely admit that I have not done any for deals on these forums.  I know that anonymousminer has and I believe that minerjones has as well. I am pretty sure there are a few others that have as well.

Hi, so I'm in the NYC area, in case you need assistance selling your coin, I've worked with:

minerjones : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=346731
anonymousminer : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1668017
and krogothmanhattan: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1000199

I can vouch for them as trusted escrows.

Please make sure you check the user profile of whoever contacts you for this coin as there are scammers lurking who may attempt to impersonate another member on this forum. Always check the proper spelling of their username and link to their profile.

Some people will misspell or add a special character to the username of a valid member which you may not notice in their impersonation attempt to steal your coin.

If you need any logistics help, please let me know and ill see if I can assist.

Good luck with your sale, its a great coin Smiley

thanks,
Buck

Have to disagree. Many people who collect here were numismatists/traditional coin collectors first. There are traditional coin collectors entering this space all the time. I get messages often on my Instagram “physicalcryptocurrency”account from traditional coin collectors inquiring about these types of coins/wanting to enter the space. This will only increase as time goes on.

OP- heck of a coin. Great job not peeling it over the years. If you’re looking to sell this sooner than later Id post it all over every social media account letting people know  ( Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, youtube, etc ).

I have to agree here as we see the big money players begin to enter the space many of them are collectors(fine art, watches, cars, wine, homes, baseball cards ,etc......) There will be in my honest opinion a handful or 2 that once discovered will be all over owning some of these masterpieces of BTC history! Hang on fellas it's about to get AWESOME!

There is no question. Many people simply are unaware of these at the moment. They are starting to hit auction houses,  which will only further drive this hobby. Like bitcoin, it’s just getting started. https://www.liveauctioneers.com/search/?keyword=Bitcoin&page=1&pageSize=24&sort=-relevance&status=archive

Looks like this coin was just peeled. Can't say I blame anyone, a lot of money to trust when you can just peel and take your money.

Bitcoin is the greatest form of protest there is. Vote in the only way that really counts: with your money.
