If I view this web page:

... one of the first lines on the page reads:
"Block 701953 [31]"

Is anybody able to tell me the meaning of the "[31]" in that line please?

That transaction is the 31st transaction in that block, with 0 being the Coinbase transaction. You can confirm this if you click on the block number link itself and then view the list of transactions.
