I am a forum member since 2013. for some reasons I got inactive from forum in 2016. yesterday I came back and wanted to start using forum again. when I logged in i saw that my account is locked. and there is a small Note that My account is Locked for Security reason. and there was an email to contact with. I've sent an email to that address meanwhile I've opened a thread here hopping to get a direct response from Admins. but I didn't got any response.

But I got a reply from the email. the representatvie asked me to provide a signed message with my old BTC address. I told him that I don't have that BTC Address anymore. and My account is not hacked. I didn't changed my password for 3 years and the 3 years old password still working. a admin can check my record and confirm.

My Account is locked without any reason and now they are refusing to give me my account back.

sign message is only required if I was hacked or I tried to change password. which is not my case.

I think I am getting injustice here and my account should be open.. if I try to change my password or if I claim to be hacked then ask me for a sign message.

Theymos clearly said here that a sign message only required when your account is hacked: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5089777.0

there is no need to sign message for security lock.

I need Justice for my account.

Did you try to use the recovery phrase secret question?

IIRC, accounts used to be locked automatically if you used this question to restore your account... It was a security feature that was added after the big database hack that happened around 2015 (IIRC, my memory is quite rusty). After the database was leaked, everybody who bought a copy could use the secret question to try to steal any account, so the admin decided to disable the feature and lock any account that attempted to use the secret question so hackers could not steal it...
At least, that's how i remember it... Could be wrong, memory is a tricky thing

That's correct.

That's weird. I can't find anything relevant in the seclog either, other than it was accessed in 2018 prior to this.

I am not sure if I can sign a message with these addresses now. but why do I need to do that? my account is not hacked. I can still login into my account with my 3years old password. I don't think I need to sign a message in this case.

Signing a message is a way of proving ownership of your account. The forum's security system likely noticed suspicious activity (could be someone else who tried to login to your account using security question), so for that reason the account was locked. Now you have to prove you're the rightful owner for it to be turned over to you.

You didn't answer the question about getting an email address along with the notification. Locked accounts usually get one which they communicate with for recovery.

1: no there was not any suspicious activity as you are thinking. an admin can easily verify that. and I can't sign a message from those wallets. I don't have access to them.

2: yes there is an email with that not. and I've sent an email to that. the email looks very old tho. I don't know if it's still active or not. this is the email: locked...@bitcointalk.org

You can login but can you access the account? It is not possible. The admin or moderators locked it and only them can unlock it. It is just normal for you to proof that you are the owner of the account. Those addresses are the addresses you have used before on this forum, if you can not sign any of it, that means you can not reclaim back your account. Tomatocage stake-address thread was meant for reasons like this, to prove the ownership that an account belong to the right owner.

if I can login then yes I can access the account too. logging in and accessing are same thing bro.

Dude! I am an OG bitcointalk user. I know all these things. I know how to sign a message. and I know the purpose of staking addresses here. you don't need to treat me like a newbie.
right now I don't have access to my old BTC addresses. I can try to recover them if that would be really necessary.

Why don't we just stop making our own baseless assumptions and speculations and let an Admin/Moderator check my case and give a response? I think that would be much more sensible. what do you say?

Hello mill06012,

I see that the other account has been locked. Unfortunately I can't tell you why.
There are according to history no posts since 2016. Since when is the problem with the login?

I would recommend you to contact the mail address from the message and/or to the one from this thread: Recovering hacked/lost accounts
There are a few ways to find out if you are the original owner of this account. You have to expect some waiting time though.

So what about the Reference stated in your profile in 2016.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=80716

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.msg16203575#msg16203575

On your profile it says "account @ mill0601 has been sold".
If it is true that the account was sold, it is clear that you can no longer log into your old account, which was held by someone else.

What about all that, is it true that you have sold, after that you now want to claim your account again, many cases like this that I have encountered, If it's true the account: @mill0601 you are the owner, you can definitely enter it, if it doesn't involve a third party, it's sold/hacked.

Then, this address: 15d4cdy9TgUyLstnVf7MDDaPK5tM6UepKH, whose, you or the second party.

OP claims he never tried to restore his account with the secret question. He logged into his account back in 2018. I wonder why he didn't see the account locked notification back then?! The database leak happened in 2015, he should have seen the same notification in 2018 as well right?

@OP Is this the first time you try to recover your account or did you try it sometimes in 2018 as well?

On your profile it says "account @ mill0601 has been sold".

And the proof for that claim on his trust page would be what?
Because he just posted the addresses on the staking page and not signed a message with it? Really?

If it is true that the account was sold, it is clear that you can no longer log into your old account, which was held by someone else.

So that's the new norm around here if a user has a problem we instantly go grabbing the pitchforks and starting the witch-hunt because it's clear he's a criminal and the real culprit behind 9/11 and JFK's assassination and don't bother to even understand the situation?
He can log in with his old password, which he has done since it shows clearly on his page, the account is locked!

And the proof for that claim on his trust page would be what?
Because he just posted the addresses on the staking page and not signed a message with it? Really?
There's a few links on his page but the evidences are not exactly concrete.

I would go with innocent until proven guilty and there isn't any evidence that the account sale wasn't clean so I suggest we treat the account sale as a separate issue because they aren't really related. I doubt this is related to that account sale.

Anyways, I don't think OP's issue is with the database leak or any inactivity. I vaguely recall that an explanation about the inactivity would accompany the ban message.

OP, if your account was locked, it must be for a good reason. I doubt they would exempt you from that proof of ownership unless it's under some special circumstances, especially since I would suggest you to try to find the relevant private keys since Bitcointalk's IP logging policy would probably have removed the IPs you used from years ago by now.

I noticed that the current account the OP is accessing is also inactive for quite some time.
The OP was able to log into the newbie account and was unable to log into the legend account. The second account was created a long time ago. It is possible that even then some questions arose for which there was a need for a second account. After all, the nickname has remained the same.

Even if the IP logs were kept for that long, I don't think theymos would have shared this information with the account recovery team (three people from the Cryptios team are responsible for restoring accounts). And as far as I know, the account is automatically locked out if you tried to restore it with a security question. Even if you remember your password, someone else could easily try to use this function (which could also lead to blocking).

In any case, if the OP remembers the password and he still has access to the e-mail linked to the account, he will not need to sign messages. Just need to wait for a response, but do not forget that active links also do not last forever (if you missed the moment, you will have to send the request again).

Then, this address: 15d4cdy9TgUyLstnVf7MDDaPK5tM6UepKH, whose, you or the second party.
just because I staked an address without signing a message. timelord assumed that bought that account? LOL.
I find this timelord guy always confused, and always mixing things for no reason.

yes. that address is my address too.

Here is a msg I signed with it back in 2016:

Code:
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

now don't say that I have copied it from somewhere. I have copied it from my account's inbox. I've signed it back in 2016. but never posted it in public.

mate have you opened my main account's proile? if you have done that then you would've noticed that I've logged into that in 4th January. the day when I first created that post. I am able to login to my legend account. I am totally able.

I got a response in email but those people refused to unlock my account. I think the person controlling that email is not real admin. but they are some assistant hired by Cyrus. so they are not ready to help me.. that's why I need justice from Cyrus himself.

I asked Hilariousandco and he asked me to PM admin. I just saw hilarious have power to unban accounts. but he seems not interested to help me.

I don't really understand the urgency since it has only been used to post 3 times since 2016 but I will explain why you've been told that the account will remain locked! While account selling isn't prohibited, it is frowned upon. If the seller/original owner has enough evidence they could claim it back and our aim is to recover accounts back to their original owners.

There is a reason why you have no access to the original email, why you cannot sign a message using any of the addresses staked prior to the feedback left by Timelord and, on top of it all, the email address was changed 3 times on the exact same day that feedback was left (which I'm guessing had some substance to it and wasn't just left out of thin air). That's the reason why we're inclined to think that we're not really returning the account back to the person who created it.

As stated previously, it's indefinitely better for an account (especially a high ranked account such as this one) to remain locked rather than ending up in some else's hands other than it's creator!

How would this message proof anything? Signing a message is providing proof that you are in still control of the same wallet you used to generate an address that was staked a long time ago. You can't proof that you are the same person who staked an address by providing a message that was timestamped 4 years ago, and was found in an inbox...

If a signed message is asked, this means that you have to create a new message with the current timestamp to proof without a shadow of doubt you still controll the same wallet. In this case, this message only proofs you have access to the inbox of this account, acces you would also have if you hacked or bought the account (i'm not saying this is the case, but i am saying that the signed message proofs nothing at all).

If you want to proof anything, provide a signature for the following message:

Code:
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
mill0601 from bitcointalk today is 7th of januari 2021. Message signed for bitcointalk thread 5306741
