Am I missing something? Aren't these coins normally worth more?

Have an unredeemed 2012 1BTC I was thinking of selling, but I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle vs. just redeeming it myself.

first auction i’ve seen with negative premium after converting forks into btc.

Same.  This has got to be a case of the market not trusting the seller is legitimate.  I would have been willing to buy the coin at that price and let him peel it and send me just the coin with deducting 1 BTC from the auction price...  I'm curious what the outcome of this will be and if everything is legitimate.

Do most collectors here find Cas coins to have more value if they are slabbed (graded)? Also, on a side note, does anyone have recommendations for grading 1BTC and higher Cas coins? Would it be better to just do it in person at the grading company HQ? I would not feel comfortable sending a 10btc Cas anywhere at the current price. Thanks.

Graded is definitely helpful when selling, more so with a lesser known seller.   Besides giving an indication as to the condition of the coin when slabbed, It also shows that at least since the coin was slabbed it has most likely not been handled or exposed to contaminants.

For grading 1 btc and above I would just fly to St. Pete, Florida and have them graded by ICG in person.

It smelled fishy from the start.  Should be of no surprise that deals that appear as though they are too good to be true often are.  As for the seller, if he was legitimate, I guess he valued the additional BTC from peeling and then selling the peeled coin more than he valued his account.  Also not much of a surprise.

That's pretty interesting, I suppose he should have of just said he had a reserve price in mind before people get their hopes up and waist their time to boot.

These loaded collectables have moved into the serious money realm especially the 10btc and up. Just a reminder that Brinks provides armed transportation services.

https://us.brinks.com/services

Possibly in the not to distant future new accounts would have to send coin to a third party like MJ first for a no reserve auction.

The problem with that is the buyer is still having the trust sending massive amounts of value through the mail.  Face to face trades might further suppress the market value of these types of coins, but I don't see any other way to get it done.  Maybe someone should start a service where they fly around to pick up and hand deliver items like this...

For example, there's no way I'd sell extremely high value items without a lawyer present and me handing the coin directly to the buyer.

Right, kind of why I had Brinks in mind for transportation needs. They work with millions some times. I agree if its me I just go meet person to person when we are talking over $40k I just cant imagian not doing that with a 10btc + coin.
