I do not get hacked so far, but I have the other bad experience before. My account can not access because the site is not online, and I got that experience early when I knew crypto. We already read about many accounts being hacked. Many of them are getting hacked because a little mistake such as do not activate the 2FA. It seems they do not care about their account and else. We can not feel 100% safety from hacker because they will search for a new target.

In 99% of the cases, simply enabling 2FA may help to prevent hacking attempts. But then if your computer is compromised (with keylogger or trojans), then even 2FA will be of limited use. In order to add an extra layer of security, you need to make sure that the email address and phone number that you are using for 2FA remains hidden from the public view. It will be better not to use this email id for any other purpose.

Yeah in my social Media account by a phishing Link , I am a noob in terms of Internet back then then and just entering and clicking every single links given .
then 1 time i have received a private message in which coming from a  friend so i am confident enough to check it.
But when i enter the link my account request of relogging since i thought  this is only a Internet or a apps issue i then Put up my details again ,
Then just a few minutes that Stupid hacker starts sending Links to all my friends and i They are good because they made changed all my security details and i did not recover the account up to now.

So for all of us , Please be aware of checking the Site you will logging because hackers are good in disguising the site almost the same in what you are usually using.

Many people have been hacked and owing to the bad experiences associated with it, many won't bother sharing it with anyone because they don't want to remember how painful it was, it is only few that want to understand what really happened will open up, share their stories and learn, while others might just Google around to find solutions or ways to secure themselves. But however, the first way to secure your Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrencies is by storing it in a private wallet while keeping the private keys etc in a very secure place off your computer if possible. Also, if you are a trader, bookmark the website of the exchanges you trade with in order to be safe from phishing scam. Also, be careful of websites or any sort of giveaway that asks for your private keys, in fact be contented with what you have and be far away from giveaways, Ponzi schemes and so on, many of them can be from scammers who will infect your devices.

Yes... no one want to remember about their bad experiences in the cryptocurrency market. During my initial years, I was scammed a lot of times and I have hardly spoken about it to anyone. Fortunately, I have never become victim to wallet hacking and stealing of coins. But one of my friends got 90% of his coins stolen as a result of a wallet hack. It can be a harrowing experience, because cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible and once the coins are gone there is no way of getting them back.

I know someone who got his crypto wallet hacked through phishing sites.
If I remember it correctly my friend was a newbie at that time and really got interested with airdrops because of some of our friends earning from airdrops,
So he wants to join every airdrop that he could but one of those airdrop that he joined ask for his private key and as a newbie in cryptocurrency he thought that it was normal so he put it on the site,
And after a few hours his wallet has been clean out.

There are many stories spreading in this forum about such concern. Well, I did not experience, grateful in a way, being hacked. Your belongings, your responsibility. And if I'm not wrong, there are no cases wherein a 'direct hacking incident' was reported. Cases are usually mistakenly sharing their private keys, or other people had access to their files wherein important informations about wallets and accounts are stored. I mean, in this cases, we cannot hide the fact that those users are at fault in the first place, which should be enough for us to make extra caution on how things could be at risk if we won't be. There are no sectors wherein we could report such thing especially to those areas wherein this technology is lacking support, not sure in those regions wherein crypto is widely accepted.

Enabling 2FA can protect us from hacking. And if your computer is compromised with keylogger or trojans, I suggest you reinstall your computer, including reinstall 2FA and I am sure your computer will be clean. We can not tell the phone number and email address that we used to register for the exchange or the other important website because that can prevent us from the hacker. Maybe we can use the other disposable email or phone number that we do not use for anything else.

Hacking is used a bit too often when people describe the events that took place. For instance, when an exchange they're using is broken into, to an average user it's a loss due to hacking, but when they install malware and that compromises their device, they'll also say they were hacked. Personally, I'd only say that i got hacked if someone was able to gain access to my device through sim spoofing, wifi packet sniffing or similar ways. I don't know anybody who really got hacked. Many people lost money on exchanges but it's not their security that was compromised so they did not really get hacked, but a third party they trusted.

so being hacked is certainly something to be aware of and everyone who wants to be their own bank needs to get at least the basics down.

Honestly, I couldn’t even dream that people were so naive until I became interested in cryptocurrencies. All those who have orientated themselves to this type of fraud can really easily steal real wealth in a second in a fairly easy way. Hardware wallet or airgapped wallet is really something that everyone should practice, but even a simple desktop wallet like Electrum on a computer that is properly protected and whose user knows where the danger is coming from is not overly risky.

I personally have never been hacked, but I also lost some altcoins due to ignorance and stupidity - which was not so bad because I learned very expensive lessons from cheap mistakes.

Has anyone here been hacked and if so, how? We should make sure that we share our stories of being hacked, even if they are painful,  to ensure that people do not repeat other people's mistakes.

My wallet was never hacked but I experience some of my accounts get hacked in the past but luckily it's not my wallet or any funds related account.

Most of the common ways were through emails like for example you get a receiving an email from your bank which is not really your bank telling that you have 0 balance already, or getting a brand deal email where they require you to download a file that runs a script or has malware in it. You can't really protect yourself 100% from hacks since there is no such thing as being 100% hack-proof in the cyberworld, it could happen or not happened to you as well but it's always better to be safe than sorry just like everyone says. I already received a lot of emails from brand deals from my photography email wanting a deal or something that's obviously malware or phising stuff.

These are some tips that you could do to lessen the chance of getting hack:

-Think before you click, always be careful of clicking a suspicious link
-Use a strong password, use the different passwords in different accounts, you could use a password manager to help you manage many passwords.
-use 2FA authentication, hackers might get access to your account but if you enable this it might help to avoid the hacker accessing your account.
-Only download from trusted sources, since this is where most of the virus and malware came from.
-Do not connect to an untrusted network or wifi, you could use VPN if you really need to.

If you clicked on a suspicious link and it directs you to a website and thats all... you dont see any program being downloaded... is your computer still safe though?  I heard if you click on a link and download an exe file... well that can be malware/trojan etc.

Most of the people who get hacked are those who mostly don't know device security, hacking comes from. malware and that malware are mostly cams from downloading software or application specifically those fakes made by hackers. You may asp get hacked by clicking a link sent to you by a stranger and putting some of your personal information. You won't get hacked if you have good knowledge, it is all about knowledge.

I assume you mean like downloading apps on the android or app store right?  But even if you download those apps, would your phone or computer/tablet get infected though?  Say you use electrum and keep coins there.

Or what about if you use a password manager and type your seed there?  Thing is... if someone puts a keylogger in your computer, then you are screwed no matter what right?  Since anything you have on your computer even if its encrypted can be seen by the hacker since a keylogger was put?

As far as I remember, I only experienced my BTC wallet hacking once. At that time, I wasn't careful and I clicked a phishing link, which resulted
in hackers being able to access my BTC wallet. Fortunately, at that time I didn't store large amounts of BTC in that wallet. So the amount of loss
that I experienced was not that big.

This has been an unforgettable experience for me, so lessons can be learned from my bad incident. Always be careful when clicking a link, pay
close attention to the address of the link that is being accessed according to what we are going to aim for. And avoid clicking on unknown links.

Do you recall what phishing link this was?  Did you had to type anything into it or you just clicked on it and that was it?  Did you see any file being downloaded on your computer the moment you clicked on the link?

So it has to be a keylogger then right?  Because they basically see everytime you type in etc?

Always hear hacks come from ppl clicking on links... or downloading fake wallets then typing in the seed.  But did you type anything into the site?  So that site you visited... nothing really showed up and then you just closed the program like it was nothing?  Did you do virus/malware scan with your computer after clicking on the link?

Not so often, and when it happens, usually the problem is in people, not the bitcoin itself.

People are using weak passwords, clicking on phishing links, downloading phishing wallets, etc. Hackers are getting smarter and trying new stuff every day.

Does clicking on phishing links enough for a hack?  Can a phishing link contain a keylogger/malware?  Or you still need to enter you seed etc in order for a hacker to get in?

Hacking incident is an endless thing that do happen not only into this market but in other markets or places as well that do involves money..
How people being hacked?

-Clicking out links and end up on getting some malware into their own pc
-Being phished when entering their credentials or keys on a fake website
-Fooled by people in terms of easy money like HYIP/PONZI's

People would only just realized when its too late. Mistakes are common but we can actually learn up without the need
of experiencing those. So be sensible towards your actions from time to time.

Pretty sure people get scammed or hacked off of their precious bitcoin investment everyday, just not that major to cause an uproar in the media, but still enough to put a lot of people into depression and in shambles. Just a couple of days ago a friend of mine got hacked out of his bitcoins, he wasn't able to get them back so we just decided to chip in some cash so he can restart his investment. Then we advised him to buy a cold wallet, and ensure that the keys are kept so he can access them whenever he needs to.

Hacks often happen when we aren't good with handling the wallet security. At some occasions we don't know how these hackers will breach into the wallet. Myself encountered with a fraud/cheating with one of the local exchanges. I was selling Bitcoin to a trader and receive fiat on my bank account. We agreed for specific price and he forwarded me with the transaction proof and requested for sending bitcoin. I believed and send him the bitcoin without checking my bank account. Further I tried to contact him, no response from his side. The transaction proof send by him was a fake one. It happened years back and I lost around 0.13btc which is has got a big value now.

not hacked but did lose small # of coins after btc-e takedown

Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

When i was a newbie, i used to join unlimited airdrops and giveaway because those were valuable at that day.but btc,eth some airdrop required to download their app, some wanted to sign up their website.there they take our information, even ask private key & said they use encrypted system.lots of people were unaware about the value of private key.so they gave their keys and get hacked.i was one of them.maybe those methods aren't useful nowadays but downloading wallet may caused hacked your devices
