Interesting topic lol.

In a worldwide zombie apocalypse(The Walking Dead style where zombies dominate the world), I'm guessing that bitcoin and gold will not be that useful. Chances are, people will be bartering with water, bananas, bullets, and such.

Exactly! Don't think people will still care for their riches. The only thing they will think of is how to survive, if in case we have that situation in the future.  Tongue

Preparing for doomsday scenarios is a waste of time, if they will happen, most of us will be dead and there's not much you can do. If you live in a region with political instability, aggressive neighbours or high chance of natural disasters, that's when you should have some preparations for leaving the house. Bitcoin is actually more useful than gold here, because it's easier to transport, but putting all your savings in Bitcoin is really risky.

have you ever watched Zombie Town? Grin
well, besides being terrible, I also couldn't believe that there would be super power supply and super cool mining all this time. As long as you can access internet directions from your room, there is still a chance to create an atmosphere for building digital change. Bitcoin will become very valuable because it is becoming increasingly scarce, and if it can be easily and commonly found on the road, then in my opinion it is not that special.

To be more frankly and conservative, people would rather barter needs like water, food, clothes than gold/bitcoin. Until that Zombie apocalypse were done and the whole world will be rebuild again but as one nation or few nations, maybe there will be a consideration wether the currency would be gold or bitcoin.

Could apocalyptic culture be based around Bitcoin though?

Communities could have their own maths guys mining bitcoin by hand.

These communities would have to be situated a geographical distance apart.

Transactions would be carried on paper by messengers on horseback.

Once a year, the blockchain commisars from individual countries could convene somewhere like Switzerland and sync the blockchain.

I agree that I don't think we really need to worry about bitcoin and gold at that point. Those times where assets are not metals, bonds, or crypto currencies, it is food and other essential needs. Although metals might be needed things that needed to survive are more important and I think bitcoin at that time is history and gold is just a piece of an electronic.
