The problem in this particular case is that the scammers already performed three successful deals with the woman and she trusted them. The group obviously has money, otherwise they couldn't have been involved in deals worth several $100k. But she never should have been alone, no matter how much trust there was between the two parties.   

I am not a big fan of face-to-face meetings and money exchanges. I have sold and bought currencies P2P online with people I trust, but never in person.
Performing such a trade in public is equally dangerous. If you are in restaurant or bar and someone hands you a briefcase with $450,000, you are going to open it and check. As soon as you do, you have dozens of eyes watching you.

It's careless enough to trust people easily if we have that kind of money. I think this case was well planned by the perpetrator and maybe the victim was not aware of it. It would be very dangerous and risky to make buying and selling transaction with large amount of money if it is done without good security, especially if it is done face-to-face. It will end badly because we never know what the other person is planning.

The case that occurred in Hong Kong should provide us with a warning and knowledge that it is never safe to carry out transaction involving large amount of money if they are carried out without security. Criminal behavior can sometimes occur without intention, but because of opportunity.

She is seriously being watched bt those robbers for a long time and learned many things about her. The previous transactions could really be traced back when it started like how they all came to contact with and whether who made the first contact. Every one in her contact could be involve even that girl's uncle. They seem to know the girl is an easy target.
