It is not for nothing that bitcoin dictates the weather in the crypto world. Therefore, it is not so easy to move from its place!

But those shit erc20 tokens are making the ethereum more congested and its fees is getting above $20 for a simple transaction.

I surely agree with this @jrrsparkles and that is one big problem etheruem faced because of many shit and scam project. That really brought etheruem in a staggering foot back in 2017 because much fud was on the platform from etheruem like scalability challenges etc but I think etheruem will come up better

Time will tell which erc20 tokens will not survive this year and never have a chance to rise. Ethereum will have better than before, and I see the progress still run until now. While we already see that there is an update from the project about staking ethereum. I think that can make ethereum to be the king in the altcoin section. We should accept that because that is what happens in the crypto world, and with using erc20, people will easily create a shit token that will not benefit. We do not have to give them a chance to scam more people, and I am sure people will learn from their mistake.

But I think ethereum still has difficulty beating bitcoin as the best asses of 2021 because people's and the institutions still prefer to have bitcoin as their main investment. They believe that bitcoin will increase so high, and they have time to buy bitcoin now.

Sure Ethereum is likely to be the best coin for this year, Bitcoin has gone for its run and after reaching as high as $40,000 we are now seeing it going down to a lower price, yesterday the price was below $31,000 and this morning it has dropped to $29,500 and the way I see it, there will likely be more decrease, the question is to what extent it will reach?

With all that happening, Ethereum has been increasing and is getting close to its last ATH of $1500, it currently sits $1300. This might be the season for altcoins in USD value but I do see the actual growth in terms of BTC which means ethereum still has long way to reach its ATH.

Not talking about beating bitcoin as highest market cap coin but as being the best crypto asset of 2021 I guess and that's honestly really possible. I mean, bitcoin simply the best asset of 2020 because its bullrun which gives quite the ROI but now it's got some correction.
If ethereum could pull off in 2021 to give huge amount of ROI within its (maybe upcoming) bullrun maybe it can become best asset of 2021 but definitely not crypto with highest market cap. It's just how the crypto perform within a year.

And that's also when the proliferation of scam projects started. It's no question that many projects choosing it because it's where it all started. Most of the successful projects today made it through Ethereum.
Because of that, other project developers have seen and knew how easy and quick it is to use Ethereum for their projects. But to have a ratio, IMHO, out of 100, I guess 2-5 are only good.

I dont believe eth could beat bitcoin as best asset, you forgot about new project like polkadot and ADA Cardano. They are very good compeyitor for eth and could beat eth. And remember, DeFi need less transaction fees and every body knows how much eth transaction fees.

And as for being a top choice for developers, well it has also been that way right from time and that’s even the purpose it was created for, every year that has been it, so what’s the need mentioning it?

If you talk investment wise and which of them will increase the most in value, well, Bitcoin has already had its season when the price increased to a new ATH over 40k USD. But we are still yet to know whether the bull run is over, the market has started climbing up again after dropping to 30k USD it has moved up to 36k USD.

I don't think ethereum will ever beat bitcoin and I think no other coin also can beat bitcoin even they couldn't beat ethereum too. Ethereum and bitcoin are very different from each other fundamentally. So comparing them is not a good idea. And bitcoin hold a huge marketcap reaching that marketcap is really high. And if anyday ethereum reach that market cap bitcoin will make another target for ethereum. That's it

Both Polkadot and Cardano have their own characteristics. But for all the advantages, none of them has yet managed to displace Ethereum. But you need to be aware that before the full implementation of Ethereum 2.0, it may take years, the situation may change.

People compare incomparable for years here... And I saw many arguments from hardcore Ethereum supporters, and some of them sounds good, but I don't think that any coin can beat Bitcoin in some near future... maybe that can happen, I don't think about it like it's something impossible, I just think others will have to work a lot to come closer to Bitcoin first, and then they can have better chances for that!
By the way alt section is full of similar threads, it's like that for years...and from all the talking, from next Bitcoin to next Ethereum... Bitcoin is still what is, like Ethereum, no changes, and as I said I don't think we will see some changes anytime soon!

A question i keep asking myself and yet to come to convincing a conclusion, despite new competitors in the market that could be considered as good or even better than the eth network, the majority of developers still prefer to use eth network, what is it that draws them to eth network! why is it so difficult to build on other network? is it because of the popularity, speed, cheap, easy to use,.....

I am always confused why there is a comparison for two different assets. can't we also differentiate how BTC and ETH differ? more specifically related to what is the comparison. trade / transaction? community? market? pump? increase in the last 1 year?
